In the meantime, what's the forum? I can just keep checking it on my own...

I still have like 300 songs to play, and I have near 600 songs now. I want to play drums so bad, but I need one of those MIDI adapters, no stores of which have them here.

I can get it 30% of the time. It's switching from a C to an F in a reasonable amount of time that screws me over. Yes, yes, practice cleans this up but ARGH. I feel like I'm trying to relearn Orange all over again.
Hmmm...pulled out and played Keys for the first time yesterday, after almost clearing the career in Expert guitar. So I first went through Pro Keys scales training which was kind of boring and putting me to sleep last night. Then I tried to play a quick play mode "Normal" Expert Keys...which was also kind of boring and I don't see the point of even playing keys like that, it's stupid, like a Pop N Music game or something.
So then I figured if Expert Keys is that easy, let's try Expert Pro Keys next....
OMFG, I've never had my ass handed to me by a game that badly before The beating hurts worse than anything I've received from Super Meat Boy
I can't imagine improving enough from playing trainings to play that quickly and accurately...I was even playing an easy song (Metric's Combat Baby)
Is it me or is the timing extremely picky with keys compared to guitar? Even for the scales training I was getting a little frustrated.
The timing is the same. But instead of a single strum bar to trigger the notes, it can be two or more. Each individual charted note has the same hit box, so you don't have to be exactly perfect with all your fingers. But if you're already slow, it won't help.
Hmmm, I was thinking about it and I think I must be hitting the keys too softly, thinking it will register as soon as I start pushing down. It's more like you need to slam down.
Also, for some reason I keep wanting to use two hands or my left hand, it feels weird to only play with my right hand. Is it possible to be a lefty piano player???
No, there isn't really handedness with a piano. You can certainly attempt to play with your left hand, but the game is charting the right hand part (which a left handed person would be playing with their right anyway)
I'd start on Easy expert piano and work your way up the comfort ladder.
If it makes you feel any better, you'll probably always have a higher total bass score than me. At least as long as you have more songs than I do.
You know what, FyreWulff? I retract this statement. If you have about 330 songs left to play and I have 550 left on bass, I'm pretty sure that extra 200 songs will make up the difference we currently have.
My new statement is that you'll still have the higher total bass score so long as I'm apathetic about playing bass.
Yeah I used to play piano like 20 years ago but only got up to about the "Christmas song" level of difficulty...will try Pro Keys on Easy tonight, then probably play Guitar to make myself feel better.
The difficulty on expert guitar songs is really weird, I like that they picked a lot of songs with interesting chords, it's really fun for me to play something like The Smiths song which is relatively frentic for a soft song but I think some of the song choices will be either too hard or too easy for people new to the series. It's almost like they designed it around Rock Band 2 players expecting that you've already passed through Painkiller, let's throw some other stuff at you.
For someone experienced at playing plastic guitar, but with no formal piano training, then best way to go about starting in on keys is like this:
normal keys:
go straight to expert
pro keys:
play a bit on easy. move to medium, play a bit there. go to hard. ____massive chasm of difficulty, stay here until you really have swapping hand positions down______. go to expert.
I disagree. Unless the player was playing guitar with lefty flip, some of the higher end charts are crazy hard. I'd say, if not Easy, then Medium. Hard, maybe, since the charts don't really get tough until the last couple of tiers.
I don't know about anybody else, but for me any chord on keys where it uses the middle and pinky finger is, at best, a 50% chance of success. Add in a kind of rapid 'strum' to that? Maybe 20% A string of chords and single notes, like YO,Y,YO,Y etc.? 30% Is the thumb involved as the single note? 15% Antibodies? 0%
Jumping into Expert, even for fivelane charting, requires a level of dexterity you're just not going to have without prior piano experience. Maybe if you're good at finger picking a real guitar.
Wow sounds like there is a long way to go to Expert O_o O_o O_o
I have been learning 'real' acoustic guitar for the past 3 years but I still suck compared to my expert plastic guitar skillz, the only RBN song I can't clear is from Arsis (and I avoid those that I sure I can't clear ) I bought 130 songs??
Just pre-ordered my Squier and the 360 adapter. Anderton's Music doing 9 months 0% finance was just too tempting -- £24 up front, then £24 a month. Even I can afford that.
Take all my money, Harmonix / Fender. Take all of it.

Thinking about doing a preorder. Might actually do my taxes early. Think it might get me back into guitar. My les Paul custom (epiphone of course) is so lonely.

In real guitar, if I don't need the top (lowest E) string in an F chord, I will switch from (I'm not sure how RB notes this, but):
C (from top/lowest E down) x32010
to
F x33211
if you see what I'm saying. It takes away the need to barre that first fret and you still hit all the same notes. I'm pretty sure there is a lot of Jimi Hendrix where he frets that first fret on the low E with his thumb curling over the back of the neck.
Of course, it's probably better overall for your playing to not learn to cheat like that, but that's how I cheat.

I must be awesome.
I jumped right into expert normal keys and had zero problems. That of course doesn't include ridiculously difficult songs like 25 or 6 to 4, Roundabout, China Grove, etc. But as far as actually playing songs on Expert that aren't the equivalent of note vomit, it's not that tough for me. I'm consistently getting 5/G stars.
Pro keys is insanely difficult, but I haven't really given it a fair chance yet. Sometimes I like to just sit down, play through The Look, Subdivisions, Pressure and Everybody Wants To Rule The World. Fun, no pressure.
I generally jumped straight into Expert standard keys, but some of the later songs I still only 3 star because of patterns my right hand isn't used to because it hasn't been fretting like my left hand has been doing for the past ~4 years
Yeah I don't mean to say that you'll automatically be doing great there, but you can do it and play maybe 50-60% of the songs without much trouble, and stumble through some of the rest of them. That's what I consider a good opportunity for growth.
Fuck patterns that are something like YO R YO R YO R really fast. or YO G YO G YO G.
I need to practice getting my fingers off YO fast enough, but for now I usually bring in my other hand and hit the G/R with my left hand on the lower set of standard keys.
I found Pro medium was a good place to start, easy on the lower tiers is just boring. I still haven't played more than 2 of the warmup songs and very little of the next level as well and I had never played piano in my life.
Is it me or is the timing extremely picky with keys compared to guitar? Even for the scales training I was getting a little frustrated.
I have the same problem. Eight years of childhood piano lessons under my belt, and the timing judgments in scales training make me want to spit blood. I don't know what the problem is, since there's no way for the game to tell you "early" or "late".
It does kind of feel like it's more picky to me than guitar, but the keys are also half the size of the 5 lane gems and I think they want you to actually hold the key for a bit as it passes instead of quickly trying to tap it like a fret.
My wife has a lot of trouble (and issues) with the pro keys. For someone who is used to reading sheet music, the descending notes are not what she was expecting.

What? What is this? I pop my head in and someone is selling the thing?
Totally preordered, awesome price after that finance option, guitars and basses have gotten damned expensive since the VAT increase, £200 is much cheaper than I anticipated. :^:
So excited!
Have no idea where I'm going to put it though, too many axes all up ins my little flat!
Also last page, the discussion about the C - F chord progression being a bitch literally took me back about 15 years - curse you Big Me!

Everything's fine and dandy and that damn F Chord appears again!

Yes. I have been slowly working my way with keys since December and it's just such a mindfuck trying to get my right hand to do what my left has been doing for so long. I've found having the keyboard propped up in a few different ways helps me out on some songs, before doing it on my lap would make the keyboard bounce around a bit too much and I'd lose the tracking of my fingers. Despite taking some keys lessons as a kid I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around the mechanic now.
I look forward to hitting the barrier like I did with guitar, where I finally figure it out and holy shit I can finish songs that aren't Walking on the Sun.
