Am I reading the "no purchase" part of the rules correctly? Can I just send them index cards saying "put me down as completing X" even though I didn't?
Most likely not, as TF2 hats would be earned by "completing objectives," to quote the treasure hunt page, and "mailing an entry form" is definitely not that.
Alternate Entry: To manually enter the Sweepstakes, each eligible entrant must print his or her name, address, city, state, country, postal code, email address, Steam account name, and telephone number, as well as the name of the Treasure Hunt objective that the entry is for, on a self-addressed 4x6 note card and mail the completed blah blah words blah blah
Presumably, there is no difference between completing the objective, or "alternatively entering" via that objective.
Hmmm...
I know what I'm doing tomorrow.
Think again. One index card per objective. Post marked during the applicable days of said objective.

More trouble than it's worth? Yes.
Post office is around the corner for me. I don't think I'd call it more trouble than it's worth for me. More money than it is worth? That probably yes (15~20 stamps maybe?) for a hat... I do have almost 700 hours into TF2 but hats aren't that important to me, lol.
Also, it says 'print' the index cards, right? I wouldn't know where to start xD

Facsimiles, photocopies or mechanical reproductions of entries will be void.
It depends how they count games. The three Sam and Max Seasons could be counted as fifteen seperate games is they wanted to be picky.
I wonder if the winners could gift the games, 100 copies of the Left 4 Dead four pack anyone?

They're not.
Which is probably good or these sweepstakes would turn into big bucks when people start selling the games for money.
Man, the indie packs were worth it alone for Recettear,Beat Hazard and of course VVVVV. Really enjoying these games a lot. I already had Audiosurf, or I'd be listing that too.
Actually trying to make a good stab at what I got on sale, and was gifted to me. Though my progress in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood has stalled at the half way point thanks to this.
Wow, Evil Genius on Steam for $2.50? Such a great game. I never made it past the second island though. I'd get so close but then my island would be absolutely swarming with good guys and superheroes and I'd be losing minions left and right. When this game was announced it was actually the first game I pre-ordered at GameStop because they said they weren't scheduled to get any of them in and the guys had never even heard of it.
My install disc is scratched to bits though, so this is perfect.
edit: crud, I forgot I can't buy things at work. Gotta remember to buy Evil Genius when I get home.
For evil genius you also may want to download the Bonus Disk which allows you to play with an extra henchmen (Colonel Blackheart), who will become available the first time you can pick up a henchmen of your own choice.
so i was watching some super meat boy footage (interesting how SMB abbreviates not only super meat boy but also super mario bros.)
and i played some of the flash game on newgrounds
i don't think i'm a big enough fan/interested in sidescrollers to warrant a purchase, but considering how much i enjoyed joshofalltrade's VVVVVV LP, i'd be interested in watching an LP of super meat boy
just throwing that out there
i feel like i'm in a nether region of liking a game just enough to watch other people play it

I got Viva Pinata so far from GFWL. That mostly because i can't really get it in steam anyway and it looked interesting enough for a hold me over on a rainy day.
The experience in getting it already showed that so far the service is *far* from being comparable to Steam. Can't even buy from the main page because it says my country is ineligible (which it's not), so had to install the client, which crashes on my main computer. Luckily on my other computer it worked, although i quickly realized there was no (or failed to find) a search option so I just went through the pages to find the game.
After that it went pretty smoothly so far but yeah, I'm not surprised the taking my money part went easy. Still, enough of an experience for me to have completely forgotten about it the second Steam started a new sale. Maybe I'll buy more games, if they really intrigue me (hey, it's 99 cents ...). Doubt I'll use the service beyond those sales any time soon though. (praying for Zoo Tycoon 2 complete)
I've come to understand that games that 8800GT can't run decently are poorly optimized. There is no other reason, since if two games are released on the 360, and later ported to PC, and one runs fine while the other stutters it is a crap port, not the card lacking in any way.
This is the Steam Anonymous group right? Cause iamthepieman and I have a problem.
I have purchased so many games from Steam in the past two months. It started with VVVVVV and just went downhill from there. Now I have at least half a dozen games that I shall probably never play.
I was staring at my games list after having just bought SMB thinking, "It doesn't quite reach all the way down to the bottom of the screen"

Only half a dozen? You're getting off lucky there.

Dunno man, I have like five dozen, and some peeps around here have like ten dozen or fifteen dozen or twenty dozen. Half dozen could've been gained from one and a half indie packs during the sale.

They should have more of these, I love it already.

But as I said, I'm lazy.
I think that part of the ulterior motive of the treasure hunt thing is to convince more publishers to use steamworks

Evil Genius is an awesome game.
edit: $2.50? Yeah, I just re-bought it so that I have it in Steam rather than needing to go get the disc, and find and install the patches, etc. etc.

Oh, and for people playing the first time:

I've never played Evil Genius. I'll probably give it a go. So many games.

Unless anyone else bothers posting a robot today, Jammu wins with sombrero robot.
Also, stop posting so much about games that are apparently great and very much on sale. I TOLD YOU I DON'T HAVE MONEY!
