On the advice of this thread, I bought myself a Hotchkiss. Dear god, that thing is glorious. If I don't walk out of a battle with four kills, it was a bad match. Bouncing those stupid autocannon rounds is also the best thing.
As it stands, using that tank alone i've researched a Leopard and up to the A-20. Should of kep the exp though, as i'd of nearly finished off researching my Panther at this rate.
Yeah, the T-34-85 is the reason I've stopped working on Soviet mediums and instead got the Panther. The panther and DB are both awesome, and I actually don't mind the 3001(P); it's got a hefty gun at a decent tier.
I'm now experiencing the horror that is the KV, since I wanted the IS's. I'm just so spoiled by the 3601H / Tiger that this KV thing is really painful. So far I have the tracks, engine and turret, but neither of the two big guns. (does anyone ever use the 2 rounds per minute gun? it looks terrible. Good if you can snipe and dodge, maybe? But the shoot & scoot style seems way better suited to a Panther than a heavy tank. Ugh. And it doesn't help that the crappy turret is the one that looks less awful.
I started the game as a German Heavy driver, and then I made it to my KT and don't want the Ausf B or the Maus. I thought the KV was a crap tank, but it's actually really good once you learn to use it. As you're leveling up I recommend using the 122mm gun. It's a great gun for most situations. Of course don't use the second turret until you get the 152 or 107. I actually unlocked those last because I liked the 122 so much. Normally I use the 152 just because I like using the derpgun. If I'm the highest tank in the match I get 3 kills with it easy, and if I'm with IS-3's I can take off a good chunk of their health
One thing seems certain about a KV....you get a gun, and armor, that is inferior, but can be competitive, to those on the IS, the Panther, and the Tiger/Tiger II way fucking earlier than any of those, and for substantially less.
I didn't pursue one because, well, I'm not a heavy tank driver (medium and TD, for richer and poorer), but a lot of people stay with them. And there are few easier ways to inspire terror to the 8 light tanks on the enemy team than being the one KV.
So what with the new clan update, and the 500 free gold per day (!) for the holdiay season, we should all be premium'ed up and ready to play. List your names and we can start getting a PA clan together.
The deadline for forming up beta clans is January 10th, so we need to submit the clan application before then.
The stuff we need:
A. Clan name - not more than 70 symbols.
B. Leader in-game nickname.
C. Tag (abbreviation) - from 2 to 5 characters. Valid only Latin characters (26 pcs.) uppercase (capital), numbers, underscores and hyphens.
D. The motto of the clan - no more than 100 characters.
E. Clan description - no more than 1000 characters.
My in-game name is the same as my forum name.
vvv Were you hitting it with HE? They cut the amount of damage HE does to modules by half with the newest patch.
WOT Name is StrifeRazor. I do not roll any higher than Tier 3, but totally willing to join a PA clan. Hit me up, i should be playing tonight in my elite BT-2, Elite Wespe, Elite M2, and Elite Marder II
I think I might have run into you before, StrifeRazor. Maybe...
EDIT: Holy fuck, they must have changed the Hetzer. First battle out, I get 3 kills and survive. Sure, the firing field sucks, but either I am really lucky, or they changed the tank. The default gun is VERY dangerous to even larger mediums, and it is a LOT tougher than the Marder II.
After a few games, the armor nerf really didnt do anything to the t29. Most stuff that hits the hull will penetrate, but did that before patch. Actually the front of the turret is even thicker now, same as the tier 9 and 10. So if your carefull, stay hull down, and angle you hull when it is exposed your at least as survivable as before. Also I'm now getting into alot of games with tier7s max, which means that Tier9 105mm is the best gun in the match.
Also wondering how the t-54 suddently has 20mm more armor on its front plate than it ever had in real life, and how the 75mm L100 on the panher 2 still does the same damage per shell as my stug.
Light tanks are getting harder to spot this patch.
Heavy tanks are getting much easier to spot (+25%) visibility.
+ firing tanks are 20% easier to spot now too.
Nice.
Anyone had a chance to play either of the two new maps?
Ugh, everytime I play my light tanks I end up Rage Quitting. I want to scout and help the team, but our artillery is HORRIBLE. I go in balls-first, taking pot shots at anything that moves to draw attention to myself...and what's my team do? "HURR DURR this bush is great!". I only roll my T3 Tank destroyer now. The Marder II. I got some camo on that thing, so I just join the crowd, sit in a bush, and 1-shot morons that try to be helpful and rush the front lines. It's a good way for me to get my munch on while playing.
I've actually played on both the new maps (though I don't recall their names).
The open one with the very low valley is paradise for TDs. I parked my Marder II behind one of the bushes and was stunned how close tanks got while still being very far beneath him.
Urban map is decent enough....good for medium tanks, though with those long streets towards the center, you could get very lucky with a TD in the right circumstances. I like both maps more than some of the older maps (like the desert one).
Played my first match in my Leopard last night. Dear god why are people so retarded? I lit up half their team as it was moving in to flank us, ran back, waited then turned round and found them again. ONE man in a KV decided to go and do something. Everyone else just ignored them and continued either hiding in a bush or moving up to attack.
Rushing to attack in a bid to cap their base before they do it to you in those situations can work, but not when they still have a defence, you morons. By the time you've broken through, they're already in our base.
Depending on what tanks your team is using, they might really not be able to rush back down to help you. Heavies and tank destroyers in particular are often so slow that they have to stick with whatever area they choose to move to initially. Though, yeah, it's also just as often a result of people being dumb.
I like the Jagdwangzer suggestion... though sadly I don't think the wang part will fly. The GMs are kind of annoying with their "no inappropriate words" policy. Though we could always just use it anyway, and see how long it takes them to notice.
So....I'm sure the 500 G a day holiday thing is over, but have they stopped giving gold entirely, or what?
I'm still on premium (27 days left or so), but I've been at 1100 G for two days now, despite regular playing. Or is this just a break from their generosity?
Getting one-shotted by tanks I can't see is getting really tiring.
Do the other mediums suffer from this, or is it only going to get better once I tech to heavies? Currently debating on whether to jump to the III/IV and up the medium line, or to the IV and tech up to heavies.
The higher tier mediums can take a fair bit of punishment, but I can guarantee the III/IV isn't one of 'em. Upgrade the engine in the III and enjoy zipping around.
Starting to hate the Hetzer...it took my a while, I guess (a whole two days). Using the thing on any map that isn't almost perfectly level is a nightmare (except Valley, in which I move all of six meters and plant myself behind a bush).
Not going to bother with the upgrades, just make my way through to the Stug III as painlessly as possible.
Is it just me, or are the matches a little less insane now? Instead of every match being me in my PzIV against a million IS-4s and King Tigers, matches like that make up only about 1/3 matches. Hell, every once in a while I'm one of the top tanks! This is new and exciting, but quite frightening. I'm not used to being able to damage the enemy tanks.
I know they were planning on revamping the automatching system - maybe they tweaked it this patch?
Also, while I did start to enjoy the 122mm on the KV, (it actually made playing the KV kind of fun!) I went ahead and cashed in 30k worth of free xp I had on fully researched tanks, and just skipped straight to the KV-3. Hopefully that'll go better - any great gun tips for the KV-3? I see it has the idiot gun, and I presume that's the win button, but I really wish it fired a touch faster.
Yeah, they've been tweaking the matching system a little with every patch so far.
With the KV-3, it's actually a toss-up between the idiot gun and the 107. All of the bigger guns fire very slowly, but you can improve the speed a little by installling either a rammer or improved ventilation.
I'm two good battles away from ditching my Hetzer (saving the crew though--those guys were troopers) for a Stug III. At least it has some resale value.
On the other hand, I think I'll keep my T-34. I got a 100% ranked crew now, and the T-34-85 isn't a huge step up from it, apparently. It'll be my experience transfer tank.
EDIT: Finally got my StuG. Invested in a crew, seeing how I'm probably going to keep using it until I get my baby, the Jagdpanther (same with my T-34). The thing is a joy to use, no damage on my first fight, and knocked out two tanks in my second (that desert valley level that is awesome for TDs). No wonder people love the StuG III.

Apparently this might be because platoon games are soaking up a lot of the high-tier players.
Just wait until you get the L/70. You still can't kill IS-4's and whatnot, but you can snipe so many tanks from far away and do good damage.
Also, the Stug3 only fights in match levels 4-6, like the hetzer, so you won't be seeing anything too bad most of the time.
I just got my Jagdpanther last night... Its such a freaking boat stock. Sure, in 50k exp or so I'll have the best engine and suspension, but god damn.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to the L/70. The 10.5 cm does obscene amounts of damage (more than the heavy guns on the Jagdpanther!), but the penetration sucks...
In all likelihood, I'll be researching both, so I'll have chances to look.
EDIT: Got the L/70 yesterday, enjoying it! I've got enough gold to buy another month of premium...should I go ahead and get that?
I've been playing this a lot the last couple of days. Fell in love with the BT-2 immediately. The mobility it has is great. I really wanted to get into some german armor though, so I leveled up the tractor and hopped in the Panzer II. Not a big fan of the fast firing cannons but I wanted to start down the line for the Tiger
I'm at a point now where I can get either the Panzer III Ausf. A or the Luchs. Like I said, I'd like to work up to the Tiger so the Ausf. A would be next.. but it looks horrible. The Luchs leads to the Leopard which seems pretty cool. I could also just move up to the BT-7 as well on the Russian side. I'd like to mess with some American stuff too, but I'm not sure where to go with it.
Are any of you still playing often? Do we have a chat channel or anything?
I actually haven't played with the new patch yet because I've been busy with Steam sale stuff and planning my new PC, but I expect I'll try it out again pretty soon, maybe put some of the gold I've accumulated to good use.
Started using the T-34-85. Maybe it's just my own negativity, but I feel as though it's not really that much of an improvement over the T-34, but is far costly to repair and matchmaking seems much more likely to pair it up against Tiger IIs and the like.
Really? I like using the sniper view to aim, I feel like I have more control of the shot. Or are you just referring to him using sniper view AND zooming in even more?

Its like your own little baby IS-7.

Update dropped. The Ram-II is already getting complaints...I was surprised myself, hit it twice with a 76 mm and it was still 100%
So, name ideas? My initial idea is...
Clan name: Jagdwanger
Tag: JWANG
Motto: Whatevs
Description: Whatevs

Yeah. Especially if "The Newell" meant what I thought it did....
For clan name, I suggest "the Fighting Mongooses". Or just "Fighting Mongooses".
Or Clan Clawshrimp.

Well anyway, the fact that there's more organized play seems to mean that there's less T8+ players doing regular matches.

and by funny, I mean that tank is a beast. Too bad its ugly as hell.
I can't believe there are people driving Mauses (Is that the plural of Maus?) that use the mouse wheel to zoom in during combat. That's so noobish
