The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Fixed lastlogin and lastlogout to display things readable by people. It should display in PST time, but I'd have to re-enable the plugin to confirm at this point. Playedfor now displays hours instead of seconds.
So i'm working on making a community branch mine. Or something. I just started digging, then OCD kicked in and it's turning into a branch mine. I've left all minerals untouched, unless they were in the way of the original construction. I plan to go all the way down to bedrock using 4-block high "floors" all the way down. Each floor will have about 12-16 "Branches" that anyone can use.
I put a few general rules up on the first floor.
1. If you mine something that is in the wall between two "Branches" be sure to place a cobblestone there. Keeps the branches functional, and lets folks know that someone has mined here.
2. If you stumble upon a cave system, mark it with a sign. That way people don't go headlong into a giant maze lol.
3. If you mine something in the ceiling/floor, be sure to place cobble where you mine. Same as the walls in #1.
I'll probably end up making a boatavator at the bottom so that folks can get back to the first floor easily. The ladders just aren't cutting it. I'm only on the 5th floor so far (~25 blocks below sea level) and it's already becoming a pain to go back up.
Also, picture:
If it becomes popular enough, or actually worth it, it could be a community mine, or something. If not, i'll just strip mine it out and build something down there.
Edit: Just had a glimpse into the future. If it DOES become popular and people actually mine there...then it will resemble the visions in my head. The entire world is just a 1 block thick crust, with EVERYTHING below it hollowed out lol. That would be so badass.
also, someone should go be a smartass in the Arts & Crafts thread; i can't, i've already admitted to knitting in there, so sassin' about MineCraft wouldn't be as funny.
Plus I've gotten really tired working on my wall. I just started putting in the minecart track and found some bugs I have to work around sighhh. Hardly have any desire to start work on anything else on my land anymore....

Schoolwork, steam sales, and a handful of other games have kept me from minecraft, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it's siren call lures me back.
I only do minecraft on weekends because work+travel times soak up everything else, but the end of this year I get two weeks off, likely all of which I will spend on minecraft.
I will minecraftbut only when I am less butthurt
from having a chest destroy 18 blocks of mined gold
Was that on the server or in single player?
oh it happened on vic's server.
no fault of his though
just the buggy state of smp.

finally started to do some minecrafting again
explored some, found a super-badass desert with massive dunes and a giant, fragile tunnel through the sand that i'm sorely tempted to disturb so i can watch the whole thing collapse
mined into an endless maze of caverns and lava and waterfalls and badass
had several stacks of coal, some gold, a bunch of wood, etc.

I have like zero interest in this game.
Seriously.
But, if you guys want or need me around I'll be there. I'll actually try to help out with your projects because helping other people's the only way I'll stay in the game.
I'm still the admin so I still have to be around if something happens, especially now that Bill's in the process of handing over the controls to me again.
I cleaned out my PM box, and I'll make a note to check it often. If you guys want me in the game for some reason just let me know.

I figured I would play a bit of this to clear my head, but I'm getting a connection refused: connect when I try to log in.

I kinda want a new map, something using absurd values with the biome editor....
Edit: Also, I've realized I like collecting mats more than I do building things, probably why I have more fun on Underdark nowadays. I guess I'm just a hoarder by nature ._.
The only thing stopping me also wanting a new map is apricots desert town. If that hadnt been created I would be good for a new map using the biome editer. If we started a new map it would be easier to have mobs on because right from the start we would be building with them in mind and it would be easier to safeguard portions of the map as we spread out.

Yeah, it's not happening any time soon. Maybe in the next big update Notch will add enough content to warrant a new map, but for now I'm content to play WoW and let people still working on things on the Minecraft server continue to do so. I'll keep the lights on, so to speak
However, I'm going to start messing around with the biome editor in SSP. Try to get some fun maps prepared ahead of time.
Edit: At some point I'd like to test my theory that an SSD will greatly improve server performance (as it's disk IO that causes 99% of all stalls/lag. I still wish Notch would improve threading for the SMP app, maybe I'll make a suggestion on his bug tracker...). I wish my SSD would arrive already.

My buddy who runs a server said when he added a SSD it improved things a fair amount.

does armswing compute each time you click the mouse or does it actually tell you each time your arm swings?

Here that is.
Fie and poppycock with all this actual 3d modeling when I could be in-game doing big, blocky 3d modeling with my bare, pixellated hands.

bill why aren't you working around my schedule
this is very troublesome
also: I have deleted my main save to restart fresh, I had become complacent and fat in my safety and now I spend the nights afraid once more

Thanks!
PM'd.
i think there was some jabbering about a backup beforehand, in case it made people go apeshit and start destroying everything they see
And if you want check out the Underdark, the ip is 212.181.174.57
