So I have a desktop computer and a laptop. Now I had no problem signing onto hotmail with both (passwords saved in firefox).
Well I recently cleared the cookies on the laptop and now anytime I try to sign on, it gives me a 'bad password' notification. I've quadruple checked the passwords (since they are still saved) and everything is perfect. I can still sign on to the desktop no problem, but this issue with the laptop is really bugging me. So could this be a router issue? Something else?
Hi. It doesn't seem like a router issue to me. I would try another browser on the laptop to test the connectivity/authentication to Hotmail. As for Firefox, I would try to clear the cookies and delete the saved password, then type it in manually and save it when FF prompts you. Try that and see if it works. Good luck :-)
Yeah, both machines load hotmail, so this isn't a router issue.
Deleting cookies/saved passwords should fix it. If it doesn't, try accessing hotmail via wireless using a different browser (that doesn't have a saved password) and see if you can get into it that way.

Well I tried deleting the cookies and tried downloading and using Chrome, to no avail. Blah. I did notice this is a problem at my school now, as well as at my house so I guess it's a browser issue.
I'm thinking about just reseting my password on the desktop (that can get into the account), but I'm kinda worried I'll be locked out entirely.
Did you check the saved password on the desktop machine against the password you believe is correct (that you entered on the laptop)? There might be a typo in the PW or something that you've had saved forever and forgot about.

Not only checked it, but had the laptop right next to the computer as I typed it in (also using the 'unhide password' firefox extension). Still to no avail.
I went ahead and forwarded all my e-mails to my Gmail account. So I guess this is 'solved'. Still it's really really weird.

Check your proxy settings as well - Maybe the proxy settings used at your school are interfering with normal browsing at home?
