Ran Blackrock Caverns a bunch of times. Real easy instance, no CC is needed and was much like a Wrath Instance in terms of how fast you can run it. The encounters involve a little more than most Wrath encounters, but nothing you really have to worry about to much.
The first two instances definitely had an "aoe is dead, long live aoe" vibe. Throne of the tides was pretty neat, though.

Guild got a few groups together and did Blackrock once and Throne twice. That plus questing in Hyjal got me to 81, which is where I'll be taking a break for a bit.
Tried the entry quest into Vashj'ir, but after all the stuff that happend, I didn't get completion credit and the NPC you talk to just had a gray "?" above his head. Once I'm done in Hyjal, I'll abandon and go through it again.
And I wish I got a screenshot of Baron Geddon in Hyjal. So many Skeletons.

Well, I'm pretty certain they are available from 78 - designed to be doable in wrath quest greens and a few upgrades from cata. A character decked in atleast badge gear SHOULD have no problem in a normal leveling dungeon. I'd be surprised of a normal mode starter dungeon was much harder than wrath heroics.
I enjoyed most of the morning questing, though it was ruined by a jackass Paladin camping me. If it wasn't so expensive I might rage-transferred to a PvE server because of it.
I'm definitely going to do some ganking tonight as a bit of revenge.
Man, you have 85s already? Our GL is currently in the lead (on alliance, at least), and he's nearly 83.
The fortune of getting the launch 9 hours before the US ... if you can call it fortune. I don't even have a copy yet, let alone logged in as I am at work right now.
Plus ... I'd never rush this hard through the content. I'll take my time, maybe even level a Goblin/Worgen inbetween for a little. And I don't particularly look forward to a fuckton of people hunting the same questmobs ... so maybe I'll even wait a few days.
So the Cata install disc only had version 4.0.0.etc on it.
Gonna break my monthly bandwidth cap getting the rest of the GB of this.
Damn, how low is your cap? .

Would it be possible to grind mobs in the entry zones to get from 79 to 80, or is there something in place to prevent that? I have a warrior at 79, and I really don't feel like staying in Northrend for another level. I know the mobs hit freight trains, but I think I may be able to survive in tank spec.
Alternatively I've heard archeology gives XP, would it be practical to just do archeology for a while?

But for now I have to sit through a long day of work and errands and won't be able to play for at least ten hours.
Tell me about it, just 3 hours left, today's felt so long!
Can I assume that the new 80+ dungeons are like the new levelling dungeons where all quests are available just inside the entrance, or do I have to go hunting for the quest-givers?

Or just sucking it up. 79-80 takes like 1-2 hours of questing if you do it efficiently.
So I missed out realm first mining. Had some trouble logging in amongst other disadvantages but I think I was certainly in the first 10.
So I kind of just switched off my brain and kept going for some cash. And then I levelled to 81, just from mining. If you want to know what that looks like:

Finkle Einhorn was at the beginning of BRC and gives you the quest to kill the first boss which auto-completes for the second, third, 4th and then 5th boss. It got bugged the first time I did the instance though, and only 1 person was able to get the quest to kill the second boss.
He shows up at the end too so you can turn in the last quest or get the quest for the second boss if it bugs out.

Welp, that settles it then, my tauren druid is going to herb his way to 81. Can't just ignore a challenge like that.
So I forgot to set my alarm and woke up @ 4 instead of 3. Since I'm currently guildless, I switched my DK over to a worgen, and then played around for about an hour.
It doesn't have the same push that the first two expansions had for me, but it's very fun.
So I'm having to work today. Couldnt get off for Cata release.
So i have some questions for the people that have gotten to play already.
1) Guild leveling/experience.
A) Do existing guilds immediately gain experience from existing characters that possess the required abilities? For instance if the guild already has the neccessary total 55 exhalted reps amoung its members does that achievement and reward automatically become available? Since gaining guild xp is done through things like tradeskill gains, does the guild level gain xp increases automatically from having maxed tradeskills on release?
C) If someone joins a guild does his accomplishments transfer automatically?
D) Assuming that the guild starts with a flat 0 xp, how fast is is gaining xp? what do you get from say a group dungeon vs tradeskilling vs rep gains.
2) Where are most of the 80's leveling Hyjall or Vansher (the other 80-81 zone).? One major flaw in this expansion is your compressing all those people going from 80-85 into 5 zones...not spread out through a dozen zones like the other xpacs. Is it as massively crowded as i expect? are the quest hubs and objectives on quick respawns enough to handle it or is it all phased?

Guild XP is gain is very fast, but it has a daily cap that you'll hit in very few hours anywaxy, as everyone is active now. That also means that a) you can't really grind it and b) you shouldn't worry about it at all.
Yes, we got some achievements immediately, so progress you already had counts. This means raid completion and legendary items etc. I don't think it counts the normal ways of generating guild xp retroactively.
Guild rewards are tied to guild rep and that has a weekly cap, so you can't get anything this week anyway.
Both zones are packed on my server and yes there is competition for quest mobs, but yes, they respawn insanely fast. Several times I had problems mounting up, because I just couldn't get out of combat after finishing the quest because mobs would spawn faster than I could kill them.

My understanding is that heavy phasing is involved, but let's talk about this:

I'm confused, are you talking about Hellfire Penninsula? Zangar? Terrokar? Nagrand? Blade's Edge? Because, y'know, it was pretty cool that we got to choose Netherstorm OR Shadowmoon after Blade's Edge. That really helped to keep the crowds from getting too big.
Wrath was a bit better, though Dragonblight was kind of a bottleneck.
It's going to be crowded regardless. They can't design the world around the crush of people that will be leveling at launch. They split the 80-81 zones, which will help. The real things thinning the crowds will be:
-Phasing
-Worgen/Goblin alts
-Dungeon Finder
-I guess maybe BGs, but PVPlol :P
From what I heard, guild leveling has a daily cap of around 6 million or so (and to get to level two you need like 16 million) but Guild Achievements add XP that doesn't count towards the cap.
I also believe certain guild achievements (ie. 55 reputations) require you to have a certain level of guild reputation for your stuff to be counted. This also prevents switching guilds to give them your bonuses since you have to build up reputation with them first. And since guild reputation has a weekly cap (I've heard anywhere from 3500-4500 so not sure exactly on how much) that can take a while if it requires Revered or something.
Hey guys, should I level by chain running instances tonight? I'm on a PvP server and being a tank, it seems like the way to go for a while.
They nerf'd the exp out of dungeons
I'm pretty sure that was mostly low level dungeons.
Which sucks. On my pally tank I can chain queue instances, but questing is about 3x faster xp at this point. Why even bother with dungeons then? They may have overdone the nerf.
Hey guys, should I level by chain running instances tonight? I'm on a PvP server and being a tank, it seems like the way to go for a while.
Only if you have a dedicated group that can do it really fast. My group of ICC10 geared people could clear BRC in 15-20 minutes. It took about 2 hours for me to hit 81. I turned in 4 dailys in Icecrown and did ~3 Cata quests inbetween runs.
I'd say questing + doing dungeons for the quests in them is the fastest way to level solo and keep your sanity.
Don't LFG tool the dungeons solo unless you really like explaining fights. While BRC is easy, people still have to learn the fights and can die easily.
The guild rep since it is jsut two people for the most part I really don't see running into the cap being a problem but getting some of the achievments done is going to take a lot of effort
So I wonder, how long will it take to get to 85? I ask because this morning I logged on to peek at the cata-ness to see one of my Guildies is already 82 (i logged on about 6am Central Time). He refuses to sleep till he gets server first DK...!
I wonder how much guild xp you could get by getting a four-man team together and just smashing every dungeon from Deadmines to heroic Magister's Terrace (most of which can be solo'd now, but you need 4 people to count as a guild run and get the guild achievement). That's a lot of dungeon achievements (plus Classic Dungeonmaster, Outland Dungeonmaster, and Heroic Outland Dungeon Master), but I don't know how much xp each is worth.
Of course, unless you have a group of level-appropriate alts to queue for it, your team is going to have to invade Stormwind/Orgrimmar to get Stockades/RFC.

... 5GB a month. Here's the story about my interwebs situation:
East Texas doesn't believe in infrastructure. So living outside city limits you don't get cable or DSL internet. Satellite is too expensive (and high latency). But there is mobile broadband; I did have an unlimited plan with Sprint but they turned into assholes and sold my overdue status for two months (literally just two) to a debt collector so fuck them. But no other companies do unlimited plans for mobile broadband; they all cap at 5GB.
Or so I thought; I came across Virgin Mobile yesterday and they have an unlimited plan so I'm giving it a shot.
Anyway the game downloaded into playable status when I slept so I jumped back in, got a look at most of Stormwind and part of Orgrimmar and they look great. Then I went into the character building for Worgen and Goblins; male worgen look fucking incredible (oh god so awesome) and female goblins look pretty cool in their own right. Also, the character creation screen plays out a couple animations you'll see most often for that class, which is pretty great!
