Can we just go ahead and ban that list from the forum? It's not like we are going to get anything new out of it at this point.

At best, everyone just agrees she is crazy.

At worst, someone says something stupid, and then there are 13 pages of dog piling on that person for being stupid.

Also definitions of rape that revolve entirely around the existence of unequal power structures are fucking stupid. I'd like to see one of these people go all the way and include race and class and come up with a manifesto that reads like "If the person you are having sex with is not of the same ethnicity, net worth, or BMI as you, it's rape."

Yes, when you intentionally frame the discussion that way, it's easy to dismiss. But power difference between races and classes has been a prevalent traditional impetus for rape. That should be painfully obvious.

If a statement is true in some situations but not others I don't think it is valid to say the statement is true. T

Sure, but the general assertion isn't "That list is totally correct." It's "That list is insane."

Mensch's position is that the list is insubstantial in many places but individual points some merit for consideration.

It was a feminist anti-Castro group. This was probably posted before all the rape talk, but I just saw this,
Catlin observed that both Ardin and Sofia Wilén, the second accuser, sent SMS messages and tweets boasting of their conquests following the alleged "rapes."

"In the case of Ardin it is clear that she has thrown a party in Assange's honour at her flat after the 'crime' and tweeted to her followers that she is with the 'the world’s coolest smartest people, it’s amazing!'" he wrote.

according to that list, and guy who has said "Come on, please" is a rapist

    literally

that is what that list says

Well, I agree with that to a degree. I would never say his actions were in the same order of magnitude as someone who jumps out of alleys with a shard of glass to assault women. But I also don't think the word "rape" should be enthroned and distinguished for only the worst-case scenarios. Pressuring a person into sex can still be a victimizing experience for that person, and people overlook that too often. I'd agree with many of the conditions of the list, but I do think it employs a lot of poor rhetoric. Could be a disingenuous jerk or just a really shitty writer.

It also seems to imply the mere presence of alcohol or drugs in the system of either person is rape which is absolutely preposterous.

    this this this

if a girl says "no" at any time she is of able mind, but if she says yes while drunk it's rape.
