It's good pretty much the whole time, and if you're stacking enough armor to get a lot of damage from his e you're probably neglecting MR making you a bad tank
i go with a banshee sometimes but don't really play malph as a tank, in fact since the sunfire nerf I haven't really seen anyone really tanking with malph

I get Aegis of the Legion, Ninja Tabi, Frozen Heart and Warmog against mostly physical teams, replace Frozen Heart with Banshee Veil versus mostly AP
my malphite build is usually a chalice, whatever boots make sense, a frozen heart (built in pieces), a randuins (get the heart of gold early on), a guardian angel, and a banshee's veil
With Viegar I usually either get the magic pen boots, or the CD boots, depending on what i can afford at the time. Is either way more particularly important that I should make sure to get it no matter what?

when urgot first came out he was listed as a Recommended hero
several patches later, when he was considered among the worst characters in the game, a patch came out where the only change to urgot was
"Urgot
- Removed 'Recommended' status"
