I don't think they were ever patched. I don't remember them being ridiculously spongey myself, but by most accounts, they're much more so than they are in 2.
I know this may sound odd, but I loved the exploration parts much more than the fighting parts. Same with the Tomb Raider series. Once it got too, I don't know fighting heavy, I left it. Don't get me wrong, I liked the fighting parts, but to me, they were just things to get through until I could crawl around the world again.
I like the exploration parts more because they're a good way to show off the gorgeous environments. When you're busy shooting guys you don't really get a chance to stop and go 'oh man, that's pretty' very often.

The shooting parts are widely regarded as the weakest part of the uncharted series. I don't know anyone who prefers the fights to the exploration
The shooting works really well in Uncharted 2 just because it's so set piece heavy. I wasn't a fan of it in UC1 when it was just generic shootouts. I definitely felt what Krieghund describes in UC1, where I was pushing through the fighting to get to the platforming and exploration. In UC2 though, I loved the gunplay, except maybe when it gets a bit combat heavy towards the end.
I like the gunplay a lot, but yeah, it's definitely the weakest. Though in the Uncharted series the 'weakest' parts of the games are still pretty damned good.
Finished the first game! Not a fan of the end bit, was a bit... I dunno, I don't like when you're forced to ise a specific weapon! Granted that didn't last too long so my complaint is pretty minor. Also the instakill from Navarro's gun was dumb.
I realize it may not have been instakill, but it sure seemed like it. Still, great game overall! Looking forward to playing through the second one.

2 is an amazing game and I'll never be able to play it for the first time again, so I'll have to do it vicariously through you.
like I still think UC1 looks good, but UC2, holy crap
I only played up till you're being chased by the helicopter and then stopped because it seemed like some cool setpieces were coming up and I wanted Rachel to see them, but she's trying to sleep right now
So you just started being chased by the helicopter? Oh man.
I started right at the part where you have to get up to the top of the hotel. But yeah, just a half-hour or so after that I'm being chased by a helicopter
So Kate Beaton did a book signing tonight in LA. Before we'd left, I'd spent some time watching the bonus round Uncharted stuff on GameTrailers so when I saw Josh, the lead cinematics animator, hanging around I immediately recognized him. It was a huge clusterfuck getting in line for the signing, so we introduced ourselves and spent the next hour talking about Uncharted, videogames, and movies before finally getting our stuff signed.
And I think I'm more excited for UC3 now, if that's possible.
Played some more UC2 tonight! Man that train ride was intense. Makes me wish I had some god mode cheat because dying kind of breaks the flow a little. That's entirely an issue of me being Bad At Videogames, though. I stopped after the train sequence because I had to stop at some point, though that game flows so well from part to part that it's hard to just stop.
Also, playing these games has made me realize I don't think o'd ever want to see an Uncharted movie, because then I wouldn't get to play it. If that makes any sense.

Hah, that's excellent. I might just take the opportunity to creep him out a little tomorrow.

liking it a lot, I don't think the enemies are as bad as people say they are (though they might've patched them in to make them less bullet-spongey)
fucking grenades though, man
Also, I didn't realize running and gunning was so easy. MAkes fighting the monsters so much easier.

Fighting the minigun dudes in the UC3 beta in Co-op was super fun though.

Oh my.
We should do some of the co-op maps in Uncharted 2 together!
Keep us updated on your progress!

Spoilers
Each report is HOLY SHIT
Mori: Definitely keep us updated on Uncharted 2 regularly.
Also i'd play some co-op but I want to get a headset first. Co-op isn't as fun if you can't talk to the other person.
Edit: Oh, right, yeah, need a headset.
It was alright, but the single player was way way better
But yeah, was worth it for the headset
Don't know what to think about Starhawk though
oh man this game is so pretty

co-op!
I might have sucked at Gears 2, Mori, but I swear, I am amazing at Uncharted. Get a headset sometime!

Yeah, I remember that well.
Huh? I remember what's going on. Did I say that I didn't remember?
And I think I'm more excited for UC3 now, if that's possible.
but seriously, how insane is that
