Free Music Online

I know there's a lot (all) of it online, somewhere, but what I'm looking for are legal downloads, EPs or albums put out by indie bands.

I'm interested in just about anything, as my iPod needs as many songs as it can take.

This thread can be used as a library as well?

I know its not entirely free, but emusic.com frequently has promotions where they give away 90 songs for no money.

First, official websites/MySpaces. They almost always have 2 or 3 tracks for download.

Secondly, music blogs. Every few days, they post a handful of MP3s with a write up. Then they delete them after a week. They also tend to post the latest from popular indie artists. Find one that fits your taste and become a regular visitor. I personally go here and here most of the time.

There's a site called The Hype Machine that basically lists all the newest MP3s uploaded to MP3 blogs. It's also great for finding blogs that fit your tastes:
