I think you're so close to the truth while still missing it. We've had too many characters for all of them to be getting character development all the time for, like, a year now, so they take turns.
Remember when the Exiles appeared, and then disappeared, and then got a lot of development later? Or when the Midnight Crew showed up in an intermission and did silly irrelevant stuff, and then turned out to be serious fucking business later? Or when we went 3/4 of the way through Hivebent without even meeting Eridan or Feferi, and Feferi didn't even get turned into a non-flat character until actually the next act (and pretty much the same thing is likely to happen with Eridan now)?
There hasn't been an especially big change in pacing or characterization, it's just that the spotlight keeps moving. Characters are introduced, they fall into roles, and when the spotlight isn't on them, they play their roles. When the focus does fall on them, the roles get shaken up -- but it's hard to do that with more than three or so characters at any given time.
All of the trolls are in the same room, aren't they? What is to stop Tavros from physically getting up and slapping Vriska? He is gonna tell the other trolls, right? If so I imagine her gloating as all the other trolls lose their shit and gang up on her.
I don't generally make predictions, but Vriska is gonna go up against LE . . . and fail miserably. If she is gonna die (which honestly I think if a fitting resolution for that character) it probably wont be then and there . . . seriously, off-screen death.
Well the thing is, Vriska has gotten hurt before, even died, but it was never really a setback.
She's going to get crippled, and this time she won't get some nice robo-replacement. And she will lose all her self-confidence.

Okay, thinking about it, I wan't Vriska to be trapped doomed timeline. Just like what happened to Dave and Rose. They were practically losing it having been there months.
Imagine Vriska, trapped in her own personal hellhole, and completely unable to escape, because unlike Dave, she doesn't have time powers.
And the only person who could save her would be Aradia, who would pop in, tell her that fate and time couldn't be changed and that Vriska was screwed. Then she leaves.
