It ends with the realization that nothing they will ever do in life will ever matter because no matter how hard they tried and fought they did not change the life of anybody else. They will all die some day and be forgotten years in the future, but not many.

I think so, too - there are a lot of details that are anatomically correct but artistically questionable. However, what I do like about these is that if the lineart detail was scaled back a bit, the shading is very art-nouveau and these could be some really nice looking pieces.
It's kind of struck me how the various trolls are exhibiting various reactions to this path of inevitability.
It's like they're all on a train on a trestle that extends halfway over a canyon, and they all know when the track is going to end.
Sollux has decided to spend the rest of the train ride getting drunk in the dining car.
Terezi decided not to look out the windows, and spend the rest of the remaining ride getting to know the other passengers.
Karkat decided to stomp up and down the aisles, attempting to find out whose fault the missing bridge is, and making sure everybody knew who it was.
Vriska's in the locomotive, shoveling in coal, blowing the whistle, dialing up the pressure on the boiler and attatching explosives. As long as the train is going to crash, might as well make it spectacular.
