Battle.net Weirdness

So my WoW account has been inactive since June. In August someone hacked it, reactivated it and got it banned. I went through the process of getting it restored, but when the game time they had paid for expired, the account went inactive again.

In October whoever hacked it did a charge back through their bank and got the fee's they paid reversed and I had to convince Blizzard that it wasn't me.

Now I just got an email receipt from Blizzard confirming a 39.99 charge for Cataclysm made with someone else's credit card to my account. My password hadn't changed, although I did just update it. I really don't want to put an authenticator on my account for just SCII.

I wonder if I can get them to permanently ban my account so this person will just stop messing with me.

Also, how do they keep getting my password? I've done full checks on both my desktop and laptop, no key logger and I only enter my password into SCII.

Are you certain you have no key logger? They won't always show up on virus scans. Also if you have a smart phone you can get a free authenticator.

Are you falling for scammy e-mails? Treat all unexpected e-mail that claim to be from blizzard, or other online game company, as a scam. They may claim you won a prize, got caught cheating, got hacked and oh please just click this link and sign in to verify. They might even claim you made a purchase. Don't click links in any of those e-mails. Anything those e-mails contain you should be able to find, if it's for real, by going to the official site the safe way.

Yeah it might very well be a scam email. Ive gotten 2 recently that said i bought and paid for cataclysm. Check your battle.net account page and see if cata truly has been added to your WoW account.

Blizzards worst idea was making you use an email address as your log in, and then using it for real ID. Security 101 says you should never give out half of your login information... But still i only have 2 people on my RealID list, i wonder how the scammers know that email is tied to WoW... I never used to get blizzard scam mails until i had to merge my WoW and battle.net accounts...

No, no email scams or anything. I haven't seen or heard anything from Blizzard since my account was hacked back in October.

Just for fun I logged in today and took a look at my characters. They had dropped Blacksmithing and leveled Mining to 450 which must have taken some time. They also had some nice epic gems and some PVP gear. So I just deleted everything.

Hope he had fun wasting his time. Blizzard's phone queue is 40 minutes right now so I'll just wait on the email response. I'm going to have them cancel the Cataclysm order and see if they can't just ban my WoW account.

I hope Diablo III doesn't increase the Battle.net scamming/hacking/phishing.

You know, they have that new phone authenticator now. it doesnt make you type anything extra in at login time, instead, if you log in from a different IP address from your normal IP, they call you (automated) and i think either give you an auth key to punch in or just press some buttons to confirm its you before the account locks down.

Maybe give that a try, because if you ever want to go back to WoW for any reason, youre going to have to buy everything all over again and you'll have no characters. Just a thought.
