By definition they should be able to do so better then almost any other medium, outside writing. The complete lack of anything to stop artisitc vision means they can take much greater risks, and lack editorial oversight and targets (for both the good and bad).

If anything I'm suprised we don't see more in that vein.

Not to mention that the shit to brilliance ratio of webcomics is so much worse than the ratio for print comics, but if you feel like swan-diving mouth-first into a giant ocean of rancid feces that contains two or three diamonds and trying to eat your way to those diamonds, I'm sure the webcomic is the format for you.

the combat is superior to Champions or City of Heroes, by leaps and bounds

the gameplay is better designed than both those games

it's graphically quite impressive, and you really do feel like it's the DC universe

the voice acting is quite comprehensive, although is totally random in its quality (sometimes it's Kevin Conroy as Batman, sometimes its obviously the random nerdy girl in the office they needed to placeholder)

the power system has got an interesting design to it, although there's waaaaaaaaay too little in the way of power selection and it is currently impossible to not just make a strong guy who punches people, he's gotta control fire or be a psychic or throw smoke bombs or something

the character customization options are abysmal. absolutely terrible, massively worse than CoH or Champions. there's just so very little you can do, and so little you can actually customize, it really turns me off

the quest structure is exactly like every WoW-rip-off MMORPG out there which i find absolutely infuriating.

what are some contemporary print comic books that you would say are worth reading

    the boys

    Tell me about the boys

basically The Boys takes place in a super-hero universe where being super-human doesn't magically instill in you incredible moral character and a humble sense of godlike obligation

in fact a great many people who have super-powers are predictably sociopathic assholes who develop god complexes and start to lose the value of regular human life

and that the world of super-heroes, while on the surface is all tights and capes and symbols of liberty and freedom, even the best of them are struggling to not just say "fuck it" and do whatever they want

so their world is basically as seedy as rock stars and celebrities except coupled with godlike power

for the most part, the public is unaware of what a shitty bunch of people most super-heroes are, since it's very carefully kept behind closed doors by a powerful international corporation that makes huge bank off of super-heroes (and their marketing!)

however, sometimes supers get out of line, and their proverbial Ring of Gyges goes to their heads and they start a rapin' and killin' for the fuck of it or whatever

that's where The Boys come in

The Boys are a CIA black-op that is designed to keep the supers in line, by blackmailing and occasionally murdering some of them to serve as an example of how they have to keep their more hideous sides on the down-low

the leader of the Boys hates super-heroes, in particular Homelander (this universe's equivalent to Superman), who raped his wife many years ago, and basically he wants to tear down the whole god damn thing

it's Garth Ennis' writing, so it's full of some pretty graphic violence and shocking imagery, but at its core is a pretty thoughtful meditation on what a world where people with that sort of godlike power would really be like
