Getting rid of pubic lice

This is an alt cause i'm way too embarrassed to ask this regularly.

Okay so a couple of nights ago I had some fun with this stranger I met. It was alright, but was wasn't cool was that after I got home I noticed I was itching downstairs. Forgot about and went to sleep anyways.

The next day it still persisted, and I began to worry if I had picked up an STD or something. The idea terrified me, but after looking at my symptoms (lotta itching in the pubic region, little white flakes near the roots), it seems that I picked up a case of crabs. I'm super relieved because that's an easy to get rid of STD, but i've never had this before so I don't know what to do.

I tried picking up something called RID at the drug mart but they didn't know what that was. Since this is probably in it's infancy (day 2?) it's still probably in egg form, and I read that certain shampoo products can't get rid of it.

I'd like to kill this thing sooner than later, so what do I do? What can I do to kill this thing here and now, and where can I go to buy this stuff?

Any help appreciated.

    This is off wikipedia:
    Treatment

Crab lice can be treated with Permethrin 1% cream rinse and pyrethrins. They can be used for this purpose and are the drugs of choice for pregnant or lactating women. These agents should be applied to the affected areas and washed off after 10 minutes. Shaving off or grooming any hair in the affected areas with a fine-toothed comb is necessary to ensure full removal of the dead lice and nits. Resistance of pubic lice to pyrethroids must be, if at all, very rare. A second treatment after 10 days is recommended. It is also crucial to make sure that all the bed sheets are changed. The sheets used before the first application of the treatment must be put away in a plastic bag, without air and well shut. They should be left alone for 15 days before washing to avoid the reproduction and survival of lice eggs that may have been left on the sheets and lead to reinfestation.
Pubic lice on the eyelashes can be treated with a permethrin formulation by applying the solution to the infested hair with an applicator.
Lindane shampoo (1%), a pediculicide, although banned in more than 50 countries, is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as safe and effective when used as directed for the second-line treatment of pubic lice ("crabs"). While serious side effects have been reported, they are considered to be rare and have almost always resulted from misuse of medication, such as excessive application and oral ingestion. To minimize this risk, Lindane medications are now dispensed in small single-use bottles. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that Lindane should not be used immediately after a bath or shower, and it should not be used by persons who have extensive dermatitis, women who are pregnant or lactating or children aged under two years. The FDA similarly warns against use in patients with a history of uncontrolled seizure disorders and premature infants, and recommends cautious use in infants, children, the elderly, and individuals with other skin conditions (e.g., atopic dermatitis, psoriasis) and in those who weigh less than 110 lbs (50 kg).

I know it will be embarrassing but you might want to talk to a pharmacist.

Trim down the pubic hairs, (you don't need to shave) and apply some standard lice killer - you can get it at walmart or any drug store. The stuff you used as a little kid is the same you're gonna use now as an adult...just on a different area.

You'll kill the adult lice easily, but the eggs are another problem. You may need to get a lice comb and comb out all the little dead bodies and eggs at the base of your hairs.

Do this on a regular basis for about 2 weeks and they'll all be gone.

Make sure to wash all clothing, sheets, towels, washclothes, etc. that you came in proximity to. Hot water and Hot Dryer.

Oh and although its annoying - don't itch. Get some Benadryl and take that to help with the annoying itch.

Since it's recent i'm probably only dealing with the eggs for now. Where can I pick up a lice comb? Would they sell that at a drug store, or at a pharmacist?

If it were me, I'd get some Nair for men and go to town down there. It's going to be a lot easier to treat this if there are no hairs for these fuckers to hide on. Nair says not to use on your genitals but I have before.

The worst part is the smell of burnt hair and the uncomfortable itchiness as the hair starts to grow back. I suppose that might be a problem since you'll associate it with itching from your current condition, but I think it's going to make everything that much easier.

They make Nair for "bikini zones" but it isn't as strong. Men generally have thicker hair than women so you might want the real deal if you go that route.

The eggs don't transfer, they're laid. You have one, you have the other. Female lice live for about three weeks and can drop eggs every day.

Lice combs are often sold in proximity to the lice killer. Drug stores, Pharmacy, etc would all have it.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't put regular nair down there if the bottle says not to. At least talk to a pharmacist.

Ok, I picked up something called Nix (from a pharmacy) and am using it now. It came with one of those small combs so I can pull the eggs off if I see them.

I know this is crabs because the only symptoms i've had were itching around the crotch area/inner legs and little white things (which I guess are the eggs), and since this happened literally two days ago after intercourse it can't be anything else.

I did the best job I could in trimming down there, then I showered using a non-conditioner shampoo, dried off myself with a clean towel, then put the stuff on.

After a certain amount of time i'm supposed to rinse the stuff off and use the comb to pick off the nits left over. Then I put on a fresh pair of clothes and wash everything I could have contaminated in hot water followed by dry cleaning.

I'll let you know if anything else comes up, but right now i'm supposed to wait it out for a week before any more actions are taken.

Just FYI, I didn't see any indication what the sex of the OP was. People were assuming man, it seems. Doesn't really matter because do not use regular nair by your genitals. Like Ceres said, we support reading and following instructions on products. :)

I'm not googling crabs at work, but I'm sure there are lots of resources that can tell you if you need to take more action beyond self treatment.

I'm already nervous about begbugs in general so, uh, I sympathize. No one wants little things crawling on their junk.

Doctor. Jeez, that's all this thread needs. The OP doesn't even know if he/she has crabs, it's a self-diagnosis from the bloody Internet for goodness sakes.

Just get a full STD workup. You should have them semi-regularly anyway, so this is your wake up call. I've had my junk handled by doctors more than once. It simply is not a big deal. GPs deal with all sorts of shit, looking at your genitalia is the least of their concerns.

The lead time on many infections is weeks/months. HIV is 3 months. I was just told this by a professional at my yearly check up/physical.

edit: meaning it might not show up on tests for that long. You can't just run out to the doctor the days/week right after sex and get tested. Makes being safe all the more important, and also regular checkups anyway.

Hey people up on your high horses about this thread:

No one's saying he shouldn't also go to the doctor and get tested for infection, but tiny white bugs on your junk is actually one of the easier conditions to self-diagnose, and it is not wrong to come here and ask for advice on how to get rid of them.

If you feel otherwise, kindly go blow yourselves.

The only other thing "tiny white things" could be is dry, flaky skin in his junk. Go for a full shave and use the treatment a few times. Just be careful because they can be transferred to other parts of the body. Like... eyelashes.

Not to be a butt, but white flakes and itching could possibly be a fungal or bacterial skin infection, or a severe allergic reaction, or scabies, or something else that isn't lice and doing the wrong treatment could possibly make it worse

I still think a doctor visit or a visit to a free clinic is probably a good idea

Hey so i'm following up on what has happened so far.

It's been around 24 hours since I put on the stuff, and it seems like the itching has stopped completely. There's an itch here and there, but i'm pretty sure those are general body itches. I have to wait 7 days until i'm allowed to follow up if needed. Worse case scenario is that the eggs hatch and then I know I have crabs for sure. They'll be much easier to kill when they're moving around than as eggs, sad to say.

To answer some concerns about my safety. Yes it was with a guy, but I protected myself using a standard durex condom, which i'm pretty sure is latex. It was anal (pitching, not receiving), but I was only there for literally a minute cause I didn't feel like going any further. Most of the time it was oral.

I can't go to a doctor until I get home, but for now every problem i've had related to this seems to have disappeared for now. Today i'm doing my entire wash in hot water to be safe, and have cleaned everything very well.

    Thanks for all your help!

You can get gonorrhea in your eyes, and it makes you go blind in pretty fucking short order

Glad to hear you're getting better OP but you should still go to the doctor, your genitals are important and you should make sure you get an expert to give you a solid diagnosis and treatment plan.

Yeah, most STDs can get in the eyes, as well. And most are nastier there (imagine herpes. Now imagine it on the inside of your eyelids).

Also, why can't you get to a doctor til you get home, OP? Seems like something that could cause problems down the road unless this is a one-off situation.

Yeah most STDs, like everyone has said, can move to your nose/mouth/eyes. This is why, unless you know the person, always practice safe sex, even with oral. Dental Dam/Condom are the only options if you want to do some oral on a friendly stranger. You can even give yourself STDs in the eyes. Like... if you itch your wang because of lice and whoa suddenly an eye itch!

They really need to scare kids with that shit in health class more often because wow are those some disgusting pictures.

All I'm hearing on this thread is "Go to the doctor!"
Which is stupid because it is the ONLY STD that you CAN self diagnose. Why do you think you can buy the treatment without a prescription???
    It's adult lice.
You can very clearly see when you have pubic lice just like head lice. It isn't something you need to go the doctor for.
Get the treatment, follow directions. do the same treatment the following week, shave or wax and be done with it.
It is not that serious or life threatening
    HOWEVER
31% of people who do catch pubic lice, end up with another STD as well which is why after treatment, you should go get tested to see if you contracted something else that night, but not to confirm pubic lice, you cant really mistake lice.
