Or is it the spinning. A circular motion, centripetal force radiating outwards from a galactic accident.
Cosmic failure taints the cloth, and it darkens, wet and shameful.

Yes, of course. I think the first thing I noticed was the absence of human life, of human contact. The environment seemed very much untouched by the larger civilizations. Especially in light of her solitary state one can only imagine the loneliness that must be routine for her. Even in an environment which seemed so full of animal life she was the only human. She lives in an extremely efficient fashion. Her only real luxury is rice liquor. She calls it her “recreation”. Outside of that everything else she produces or acquires is put to use – even the dung from her Camels is used for the construction of utilities like her goat pen, and she sold their hair to purchase a solar collector for the boiling of water. She told me all she knows is “eating, drinking, tending animals”. It’s most definitely an isolated lifestyle, one detached from the rest of humanity. In contrast our lives appear ludicrously complex, to the point of incomprehension. She’s living a life devoted to the essential, to the necessary, with no tolerance (or very little) of superfluous activity or creations. The only reason she invested in the solar collector was to avoid having a fire going all day – to save precious fuel. She had no intention of making her life easier, or providing a luxury new item – it was necessity. It’s the driving force behind her every action and decision. She lives simply.
I’ve already touched upon the subject of her isolation and silent existence. I obviously admire her greatly for simply enduring such a life, for not complaining or faltering in the face of adversity. But personally I think her greatest quality is her dedication to tradition. It’s not something I would personally emulate – It’s not the upholding of ancient culture that I find amazing, it’s the sheer determination to live like this. She intends to do it until she dies – she knows her way of life is transient – those traditions and cultures are slowly perishing through death by many cuts, but still she persists. It’s inspiring to see this woman persevere in the face of her own mortality, and also slightly saddening to know she won’t experience the outside world, or at least has no intention to. It’s the definition of bittersweet.
Another element of her attitude to life that I became enamoured of was her constant levity and cheerfulness. I remember on one occasion she actually left the house, and kept walking.
