Unless the cata dvd is unique, I'm fairly certain you can't do a fresh install from the xpack dvds.

And as I said before; unless they changed it on the bnet site and made a "full" client, you do have to install each xpack individually.

When I downloaded the game it was just one giant install. Got it from the b.net site. No discs, no separate installs. Just one .exe and I was good to go. This was last week I think.

Yeah I get what 4.x does, lol.

It's just that, without WOTLK content you can't play so I assume that somewhere hidden in 4.x is ALL the content. So he will have WOTLK content, just... no access to it.

    Bought the 7th guild tab.

    Used it.

Noticed it was still in my inventory an hour later.

    Sold it.

So in reality, it costs 5.5k.

    Hilarious.

well, i did buy WotLK back in the day, I just can't find the disks.

So my account still does have access to it. I just need the actual data on my computer.

I guess that is where I am confused.

I assume that 4.x has the entire new world, including WOTLK data on it in order to ensure people are up to date? Maybe i'm confused about the entire thing.

I understood it as you installed TBC content and then jumped into download the CAT content and i'm just assuming SOMEWHERE in there that the WOTLK is coming down as well.

Which might explain the 8 gigs of patches I downloaded.

I am pretty certain that when you fully update the game it installs all the content for the game. If you have access on your account to the specific areas you can then access them, if you don't they are denied to you but they are still technically there.

This is what you should do. Theres just the downloader now, and it downloads everything. Infact, im pretty sure it always did this, BUT the neat part now is you can be in the game within 5 minutes due to the fancy new download in background.

When i decided to come back, just after 4.0.3, i though "Ok ill download the client and reup and play tomorrow". Then i saw i could do a background download so i reactivated my account right away, and by the time i was done with that, i was in game. Its really awesome for fresh installs now, no waiting at all.

Though, it does download 19 gigs total so if you have a shit connection or a capped connection, you might be better off installing from discs if you have them available.

I just reinstalled WoW and TBC and have reactivated my account so I can log on before I buy WotLK and Cataclysm. However, the game won't patch and I keep getting these errors:

"The file "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\World of Warcraft.temp\Account Billing.lnk.temp" could not be created. If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (InstallerFile::Create)"

    and

"The folder "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\World of Warcraft.temp" could not be deleted. (ConflictManager::UncreateObjects)"

What's wierd is that I don't even have a ProgramData folder in my C:\ drive and I have no idea how to fix this.

*Edit: Nevermind, I got it. I had to load WoW as adminstrator, that's what I get for having played WoW when I still had Windows XP*

Honestly - you can't hate on people TOO much because the game doesn't come out and say "this stat is better for you."

It's easy for us to be all "omlog blogh INT STR SPI..etc" but not everyone knows. To them the logic is Bow + Arrow = STR because that is what you associate in life. Then they don't know if they need to stack shit for their pets...

Now, that is no excuse for the long-time player as they have had a lifetime of figuring it out, but we face a wave of new people everytime an expansion comes out or everytime Blizzard runs a new campaign of commercials featuring out of work 80's T.V. shows stars.

It totally does, though. In the character creation screen when it gives the synopsis of how your character works, the last sentence for each class flat out states what their primary class is "Your primary stat is agility/Intelligence" et cetera.

When you mouse over stats in the character sheet in-game it also displays that kind of information.

At least as far as Wrath is concerned, that's not true. You can do a fresh and complete install using just the Wrath DVD and not have to swap out any discs.

The char screen even goes so far as to list the obvious terrible stats for your class with a description of "This attribute has no benefit for your class" when moused over.

It's unfortunate this isn't foolproof for every class; when hunters mouse over strength they get "This attribute increases your ap by X". So, they have to figure out that agi is straight better, and the minor detail that str doesn't affect ranged ap at all.

Yay, I finally hit 16k dps for real (well, according to recount at least) on a boss. Was running a priest friend through some non-heroics for rep with a shaman buddy and some pugs. Heroism + meta + demon soul is just silly fun. I felt kinda bad for the pug dps we were dragging along with us though. One fight was me and the shaman at 14k dps and the pugger at 5.6k.

Tonight I found out that the Baradin Foxes on the northern Tol Barad island have a 1% chance to drop a fox companion pet (that basically has all the same idles as the hunter pet, except it's dance is a random idle animation since you can't click Play Time or whatever for a companion pet).

I decided I should go ahead and farm this now before it becomes more widely known and harder to farm. Fortunately, I got it after half an hour. Unfortunately, it's BoP so I can't make any money off of it, but it's neat to have.

Just tried a random heroic. Priest immediately phases out, I see she's in Org. Ok cool, probably getting something. The warrior seems to have disconnected. I wait a minute, and I ask if anybody knows if the others are coming back. No response. Priest then does come back, I wait a little longer, then try to kick the disconnected warrior. It fails, and I ask if he's coming back, after I notice everyone else seems to be from the same server, Illidan. Rogue says "hey fucktard quit being a bitch." Oh... ok, the others clarify he is coming back. They all seem to know each other. Rogue then proceeds to "LOL" at me being BM and having a carrion bird. I politely explain the benefits of Demoralizing screech, as oftentimes nobody else bothers to use their class's version, and it would surely help in a heroic. Priest asks for Core hound, I warn them it's not yet 85, and then they kick me.

I mean, I guess I understand Heroics are hard, but I sometimes forget how insufferably rude some people can be. I don't always understand why some people feel the need to make others feel like shit. I should be sort of glad, they seem like the kind of people to roll Need on things so they can give it to their friends.

Illidan is a known shithole. Can't really avoid it, but beware whenever you get some pugs from there.

I had a 1 terrible and a couple good pugs today.

Terrible was when I specifically queued for SFK on my hunter to do my weapon quest. 20 minute or so queue. Get in, and someone keeps trying to requeue us as if someone had left. Finally the healer says "I refuse to heal SFK". Apparently he is tired of it. He zones out, refuses to leave the group, and we can't kick him. I don't leave the group either, because fuck that guy. Eventually one of the other DPS leaves, and I guess the tank and healer (from the same guild) get together and votekick me. Fuck that guy.

Good was Heroic Vortex Pinnacle. Had a good DK tank, but he left after winning something off the first boss. He was replaced, quickly, by an even better warrior tank. We got the second boss in two tries and the last one in one, despite my never having been there before.

Maybe you should, i dunno, let it finish applying those non-critical updates? That gets rid of that message.

As for download caps, vote with your dollars. My old ISP had download caps, and when you surpassed it (75 gigs), you had to pay 5 bucks a gig up to 25 bucks. Then they tried to raise the paycap to 50 bucks and if you went too far over, a service ban, so i would have been paying 110 bucks a month for capped 8/600 cable with an approximate 100 gig a month hard cap. So i switched to uncapped DSL even though it was slower (5/800) and then switched their cable offering when it became available which is fucking great (15/1 uncapped). I used 2 terabytes in download/upload last month. No one cares. Infact, back in the old days i remember they used to have a "top users" list on the website, with the names of the dudes who downloaded the most each month, because theyre proud to be one of the only ISP's offering service in the city with no caps and no throttling, which makes me proud to give them my money each month. Even if it is slightly more expensive than any of the major ISP's.
