Freelancer graphics glitch

I've been having a problem with freelancer. There is a glitch that keeps popping up that makes the background dissapear, the character models freeze, jump around, or have tracers (sometimes all three), and the rest of the models flicker like crazy. I've had this problem crop up while on planet and in space. Have no idea what''s up, but I figured if anyone would know, it would be the people here.
Also, I have all the patches, including 1.4, but it says on the title screen that I am running 1.0
Is this just a glitch, or do I really not have any patches?

    1.4 was an unofficial patch. The only official patch was 1.1 that was primarily a server patch and didn't change anything in the game proper.

    I actually had never heard of the 1.4 patch and even as of a few weeks ago have never had any problems with freelancer.

    You should do a fresh install with at most the 1.1 patch, and that's not even required unless you're hosting a server. See how that goes for you.

    Other than that I dunno; any mods or anything you have?

    no mods or anything like that. And it's not the patches that did it, cause it happened before i got the patches, and has gotten significantly better, but still crops up every now and then. Now it just freezes every second time it tries to load something. Alt-tab fixes the prob, it's just a pain to have to alt-tab after coming out of a trade route, then having to do it again when I go to land on a planet.
    And yes, 1.4 is unofficial, and is meant to take care of some of the graphical and gameplay glitches that the 1.1 patch should have taken care of.

    Do you have the latest graphics card drivers and DirectX version? Do other games work fine?

    Almost, and while my computer is kinda old ( it was top of the line when freelancer first came out), everything else works fine. Even some stuff I shouldn't be able to run. Actually, I can't find a driver for my Nvidia Geforce4 mx 440. I checked the Nvidia website, but according to them, it doesn't exist.

    found the driver. Cause, you know, they couldn't put it with the other Geforce 4's.

    Dude, you are lucky that computer still boots up.

    I'm betting that you are about to experience a video card failure, from the way it's behaving and its age.

    meh, the computers almost 10 years old, it's had a good run. I'm just using this till I get a new one in the spring.
