Battlestations Midway arrived in stores today (01/31/07) for both PC and Xbox 360. The demos are out for both, and hopefully you had a chance to try it. And with the release, I figure I'd start a new thread so we can organize it for future games for both the PC and 360 versions. But first, features:
Battlestations: Midway blends intense 3rd-person action with epic, large-scale naval combat and brings to life the great Pacific battles of World War II. From the chaos of Pearl Harbor, through the Philippines, Java and the Coral Sea all the way to the epic Battle of Midway. Players can relive classic battles with realistic locations and accurate historical detail and take part in huge multi-unit online battles with up to eight players controlling over 60 units. Players can take direct control of over 60 different warships, planes and submarines, many of which are based on actual historical vehicles, from a 3rd-person perspective. Single Player mode features 11 large-scale campaigns with 12 bonus challenge missions while the online multi-player combat offers an entirely new online battle experience and features head-to-head and co-operative battles featuring over 60 Allied and Japanese units.
The demo was multiplayer only, although it was a small map taking place on the Solomon islands. The object is to destroy key enemy targets. For the Solmon islands map, you were to destroy your enemies shipyards and hangers/runways (the US had movable carriers). As you may or may not know, these key installations are how you launch aircraft or ships/submarines. Destroying them severely reduces the enemies ability to launch attacks and defend him or herself. Other multiplayer maps are naval only or even plane only.
We should start a list, however, of people who have the game and for which system. As far as the PC version, Gamespy still seems to have issues, so, if possible, we can and may use Hamachi instead (listed below). If you're having issues connecting to Gamespy through Battlestations Midway, then there's a problem with the Unique ID. For new registrations, it should be fine (unless your Unique ID is already taken). However, with existing Gamespy accounts, some issues may occur.
To fix this, I downloaded Gamespy Arcade. When logging in with my existing account, it said my Unique ID was... not so unique (I don't understand this silliness; I'm pretty positive it was). It asked me to choose a new one, so I did, and now I can log into the Gamespy browser in Battlestations Midway.

Someone please tell me if its worth it...
From what I played of the demo, it's worth it. Basically you launch units from your facilities. For example, one shipyard had two slots (you had two shipyards in the demo map; so if it was 1v1, you could launch four ships) that you could select and launch ships or submarines from. The Japanese had two hangers and each hanger could launch three squadrons (they don't launch as just one unit, but as a squadron). You can directly control any unit. You can easily switch between units, too, by highlighting them on your screen or pressing a button.
You can also control them on the tactical map (TAB button for PC). You would just select them and right click them where to go or attack. Also, right clicking a location to go created waypoints instead of instantly changing the heading of the unit. This made it easy for me to make a path for my fighters or bombers to go so they could avoid detection.

You better. I'm suppose to own your ass, remember? Anyways, Gamespy is still a piece of shit. I can't seem to login or register, so it's going to be Hamachi for awhile. I'll try again later, though. They have to fix it at some point.

That being said, I felt it was too slow. Not too slow for what it is, but too slow for my tastes. Probably going to rent it when I'm bored.
I fixed it. This is only for people trying to log in with their accounts they already have. If you register with a new account with a new unique ID, you shouldn't have a problem. Once again, this issue seems to be with people trying to log in with their current accounts.
To solve this, I downloaded Gamespy Arcade. It told me my Unique ID was taken (which is why I couldn't login) and I had to choose another one. So I did so and viola, I can login now. Hamachi still is better, as it's more stable, but it's good to know I can get on the internet games now, too. I'll update the OP.

So far there are only a few reviews out, but gamerankings shows a score of 76% for the 360 version and 78% for the PC version. That's about the same as Lost Planet.
Anyways, I got out of a few games online. I did the plane only map, and that was great fun. As the US team, I had to protect bombers so they could destroy the Japanese hangers on an island. So it's just one huge dogfight against the enemy to stop them from destroying your planes. If they destroy enough waves of bombers, then you lose.
Waiting for a price drop. It's a great game, but I always regret buying a game at full price.

Is your gamertag PolloDiablo, too? Because I'll add you on the player list in the topic. This game needs more love from this forum. It's an absolute blast.
Speaking of which, what's the name of that site that has all the torrents of game demos and patches and such?
PolloDiablo was taken (damn you, whoever you are!), so I'm Pollo Diablo C. I tried to ninja edit that in, but I was a minute too late.
