It's done when it's done. There's no sense is worrying about it, it's not as if it will become vaporware like Stargate Worlds or the real Star Trek MMO.
There is a sense of worrying about it if you're Bioware and Guild Wars 2 gets dated for fall this year. All of the sudden you might be going head to head with the best possible competitor.
I've never really thought of Guild Wars as competing against any MMOs. As in, I haven't known anyone that pays for an MMO that has gone "I would rather play Guild Wars" and canceled their subs. The few that did play GW actually just kept paying their current MMO sub anyways.
Honestly I'm not sure they really compete directly against anybody in this market, and hasn't for awhile. Probably one of the reasons they can do so well, since they don't have to fight against other games.
I mean, anecdotal, I personally plan to get TOR, and then get GW2 later most likely, but not stop the sub for TOR for it.

Well, the original Guild Wars wasn't really an MMO. The devs refer to it as "competitive online RPG". GW2, however, is going to be a full fledged MMO.
Of course, the best thing about GW2 is that it doesn't have a monthly fee, so if you're so inclined you can play it and TOR and only have to pay one monthly fee.
For some of the mmo market consumers it is a substitute good. It seems to me that most people have a mmo of choice that they play nearly exclusively. Since gw2 is likely moving towards a morwe true mmo experience, it will be a direct competitor. Granted, swtor will likely appeal to a non mmo market as well, but for the mmo consumers will likely be choosing between the two if they release close together. There is also the desire to not have to compete for media coverage. I'm mot sure if gw2 will be sticking with their same one time pricing model, but swtor would still be competing for game timme, and if consumers don't feel like they are getting their monthly sub worth because they are dumping so much time in gw2, swtor would likely take a hit.
GW2 is not a concern for Bioware, just like they aren't afraid to release Mass Effect 3 the same week Elder Scrolls 5 comes out. They're both going to be huge sellers because they're made by developers with past achievements that dictate day 1 sales. Now, the long term success of either game will be determined at a later point, but the date of release will most definitely not be affected by another game.
the date of release will most definitely not be affected by another game.
I doubt Bioware wants to release SWTOR with a lot of stuff being released around it or it will water down their marketing push if they are dealing with other big releases. Even a game that won't be a huge crossover with the intended audience like Duke Nukem Forever will dilute potential coverage if SWTOR was going to release right around May 6th (when DNF comes out.)
By the way, if anyone is curious in the Firebug talent tree for the Bounty Hunter, here it is:

That's really awesome. I'm getting an awesome image of the Firebats from StarCraft or the insane guy just lighting everything on fire laughing manically.
I don't play MMOs anymore, but I will probably buy this just because KOTOR was one of my favorite RPGs, and Bioware pretty much makes the best everything. This is like if Valve was going to release a Half-Life 2 adventure game.
It sounds like they're going to add positioning as being a strategic element in combat.
At least I hope they are.
God I hope not, or if they do they don't do what wow does and give half the bosses arc attacks that kill you if you stand behind them (tail swipe) of it and then tell you that you gotta be behind the boss
I think of positioning as rogue backstab crap. And since they've made several recent games with rogue backstab crap, there is a good chance it is rogue backstab crap.
Anyways are there anymore recent gameplay videos than the PvP! and the convention/E3 group quest/instance video?
You can find a number of leaked gameplay videos here at rutube. Why the Russian video site? EA has been launching nukes at any leaked video that shows up on youtube.
The quality could be better on most of the videos they have up, and we really haven't gotten a lot of videos from the recent testing, but beggars can't be choosers.

Funny enough I was ready to make a post about underground smuggled videos when someone told me to go to youtube or gametrailers. You posted exactly what I wanted.
I'm pretty sure you'll be able to pick a first and last name, but I'm not entirely sure how titles are going to work.
Unfortunately, the more characters given, the more opportunities we'll have to fill up the terrible names thread. I have feeling this game will be full of them.

I doubt we'll get a first and last name for our characters. From the beta leaks so far, it seems to be 1 name though a space could be allowed I guess. I also doubt we'll be allowed any punctuation other than non-consecutive hyphens and apostrophies. You know Star Wars names LOVE those. It'll be fun to try out the random name generator in this game, me thinks.
As far as character slots, the build for that game convention in Germany had 8 per account.
Man, I'm getting annoyned at the silly conversation on podcasts these days. I jsut listened to the DH and they spend way to long discussing running and shooting... If I hear another quote about Han running down a hallway shooting at storm troopers and how being able to move and shoot is iconic or fits into the star wars theme, I will loose all respect for them.

Since when is this even a point of conversation?
Because it isn't something that is done outside of FPS games.
there's a lot of folks clamoring for info about the game at this point. and with there being very little info of substance coming from EA/Bioware, they're nitpicking what we do know and trying to create content from it.

WHAT?!?! WoW has moving while using abilities... You can even jump and cast mid-air. Hunters get to move and shoot arrows. Sure certain abilities require you to stop and I'm sure certain ailities in TOR will stop you or require you to stand still.
EDIT: I'm just bummed that the game sounds like it was pushed back.
EDIT 2: I will be pre-ordering this game and hope they let us start a few days early.
Yeah, I am starting to get a creeping sadness that SWTOR will not make their Spring release date. Maybe this is due to Bioware planning on us having a meager drip of info until PAX or closer to release, but it's not looking good. There was even a developer that said something open-ended recently about the release date target not just being Spring, but I can't remember it specifically.
Bioware, I will play this game bugs and all. Give it to me.
Hence why this thread has been a snail for like the last month. Almost no new info.
I wanna be a jedi already :l
It's gotten quite awful on the official forums, and the darth hater podcasts have been, frankly, terrible to listen to as their enthusiasm regarding anything SWTOR, even if it's the most inane of fan Fridays, borders on the distasteful.

I don't know if the window has been officially changed or not, but they have said that the game will come out this year.
If we don't get a release date at PAX East, I'd say they're definitely pushing the release date. At that point, we'll likely get a release date at E3.
By the way, for you guys that were really apprehensive about the animations, one of the developers said on the forum that they have seriously updated the animations and will be unveiling them at PAX.
Dragon Age 2 comes out next month, and they've pretty much released nothing about it. Same went for Mass Effect 2. Bioware plays the PR game their way, or not at all.

Wait seriously? They've released a metric fuck-ton of information on Dragon Age 2. Game Informer has run like, six articles on it, IGN has tons of videos and hands-on information... I mean, the only thing they haven't done is release a demo for it.

I should clarify, I was speaking in terms of the amount of PR stuff, not actual information on game systems. The PR fluff, when compared to other games, is rather low for Bioware up until the 12th hour (which I guess they're at for Dragon Age 2?). Not that it really matters because PR for an MMO is different from that of a normal game.
I have fallen victim to the anticipation of this game, I have went to the official forums. God that place is sad, if anyone can remember the SWG forums before it came out that place was the most pathetic place in the world. There was this woman named Kat or something, and through the hype train people were led to believe that we would be able to own vehicles...and she took this to mean a pink AT-AT, when it was hinted that it wasn't possible a massive petition was started.
I mean that sort of stupid shit was common, and the TOR forums don't seem to be too much better. People would talk about all sorts of ridiculous things about how they thought the game was going to be, how they wanted to form bands and just play in cantinas and role play smugglers and all that. I remember one clan/guild or whatever had this whole system mapped out with smugglers running supplies for the crafters and all that crap. It was kind of funny when the game actually came out and not one of those things was even possible, or in the least bit fun.
Why are people so continuously surprised that other forums turn out to be absolutely horrible? That's what happens when you give a bunch of people an unmoderated space to be total dicks. Believe me, this forum would be just as bad if it wasn't so heavily moderated (and thank god for that)

The fact the opened up a forum for the game like 3 years before its release is kind of a bizarre thing in my opinion. Wouldn't you want to not have a centralized place for game discussion so people would be out and about on other forums discussing it to get other people interested?
I did really well in the marketing classes I had to take, but I always ended up coming out of those classes realizing that it's just a crap shoot.

Official forums give a centralized place to gather feedback (in this case from the previews "Oh this is neat!" "Oh, that idea sucks!" and another channel to communicate information to the fanbase).
This does not stop them from being a cesspool and making any company employees that watch them lose all faith in humankind.

On another note, I have a bad feeling we are due for another Fan Friday this week.

September seems reasonable since we have next to nothing in the way of info for the game
