I'm confused. Last few times there were major mmos coming out multiple guilds were created.
So why is there a focus on a single guild this time? Who has the wrong idea about that?
Make. Another. Guild.
Fizban, I do not grief people, but thank you kindly for the incredibly rude insult.
There is this wonderful anti-pvp thing going on in here which is starting to devolve into attributing generalised motivations to the preference that automatically imply negative personal characteristics. This, like all stereotypical discrimination, needs to stop. Right now.

What exactly is stopping someone from making a PA PvP guild?
(not addressing you on this part, morninglord,) Just stop it with this faux oppression routine! Both sides! I may not be much of a PvP'er but I think I can safely assume that it's not all griefing. So just stop it already.

Nobody has directly focused on it, but some people are talking as if they only have the choice of what is there. And as if the organiser of the current guilds has to be the one to make the next one.
I was just trying to bring out into the open that this isn't the case.
For example, arguing about wether or not you would want to make a pvp guild is completely irrelevant if you just , you know, organise a pvp one amongst the pvpers, get it added to the op, and those who want to pvp join it. Done.
I'm pretty sure I confused the hell out of everybody by mistakenly saying "single". That's my bad.

I'm not actually raging. I was just making a point.

Considering there are duplicate names for guilds on the Bioware guild headquarters already, it's not like anyone even needs to come up with a new name if they want to make a PA pvp guild. And the 100+ votes we had probably indicates that there's sufficient interest to start guilds on other server types.
I'm not clear on why this should be a contentious issue.
Again, I'd like to say I understand what the intent is behind trying to organize things as devCharles has been doing, but honestly I think even he is already sliding towards nullifying the vote because he was discontent with it. "Gabe might come in and direct the population towards a PvP server"? So basically the vote means nothing if Gabe comes in here and voices his preference different? (mind you I think the chance of Gabe coming in here and commenting are zip).
I don't think Gabe will come in here, but I could see him doing what he did with WoW saying on the main site what server they're going to be on, and lots of people going there. It's just a possibility. We'll still have PVE servers. As shown with the numerous WoW PVE servers on this forum, both can coexist.
That being said, setting up the vote the way I did allows us to see how much interest there is for the game on each side. I also went with the prefer and strongly prefer so if people would rather play with the larger guild, they can do that if their desire for one isn't really all that strong.
This is what is for sure right now. We'll have 2 guilds on a PVE server though. One will be empire. One will be republic. This is for certain. The Bioware Devs said they would say more about the PVP ruleset on a PVP server in the future though, and I figure people would want to know that better before they make a determination. All things considered, I will add whatever PA Guild that is created to the OP. The main vote went to PVE, so that's why those will be going up first.

I think I misread you NTM.
devcharles: Would it be trouble to make a list of people who would be interested in pvp? I mean it could even be a duplicate listing. It'd give other people an idea of how many other like minded fellows there are and so on. It'd be a temporary solution that might go some way of alleviating any worries people might have about a penny arcade pvp guild.
It'd also let people organise a pvp guild easier once they do know more.

Not at all. There were 63 people that voted for PVP though, if you want to use that reference point. I was planning to get a list of people who were going to play and their character names in open beta, so I think we can hold off on the list until then. That being said, if someone wants to make a PVP guild, they're certainly welcome to it. I'll put it in the OP as well.
That sounds good, was the point of my rant anyways. Rather than have people obviously upset they were "stuck" with the choice everyone else made, just make a PvP guild. I'm sure we'll have enough for both types, at least at launch.

now I have played on PVP and PVE in wow, and I just don't see why we cant just combine the pvp/pve guilds into one on a pvp server. Just because your on a pvp server doesn't mean your forced to pvp, and when you get greifed its not like you wont be in a guild full of people that love to pvp and would gladly come fuck them up for you.....

Because a lot of people don't enjoy being greifed when they are trying to play the game. Trust me, I know how to PvP very well, it just isn't what I want to do anymore and especially not when I am questing or whatever. Sure you can call your guild in, but all that does is make an even bigger PvP battle when they bring in their friends. Now you have the opposite of what you want, it is no longer a questing area it is a PvP battle zone and there is no way to escape it except drop all your quests or log off.
Now if PvP people played on a PvE server they can PvP all they want in battleground or whatever, and if they want to greif I am sure there will be some PvP zones.
Some people just don't want to be attacked by other players....ever. Either that, or they want to be in total control of their experience on the game. Doesn't matter if half the server came down and beat up on the guy who picked on you.
Just let it go. It's not a debate that is going to be settled. The game has more to do with how things play out than we do...and the game hasn't been released yet!
Honestly, I'm just curious how SWTOR is going to handle open world PVP with the whole story thing and all. If your quest giver is talking to you out in the world, and here comes a guy from the other side, is he going to break you out of your dialog? I feel like there are just a bunch of questions that need to be answered before I can make a more informed opinion about PVP in this game. Will the story take people from different factions to different places on planets? Will there be cross faction quest givers (like the independents?)
Thanks DC. You do good work. Sorry I'm always causin a fight in yer house.
It's no problem at all. I think what we all want is to enjoy the game most for our particular preferences. It's better to deal with stupid logistics stuff like this now compared to when the game actually comes out and we'd be scrambling to pick a server, get a guild together, etc. etc.
Bioware is offering this service, so we might as well use it to the greatest advantage.
Just poking around guild rosters, it looks like Agents and Smugglers will be by far the most underplayed classes. Pretty good numbers if you look at a couple 400+ member guilds.
I feel as if releasing it in September (3rd year of my undergraduate degree) is some sort of cosmic joke. I already sleep very little.
Also what degrees do you guys (Elvenshae and MagicRadio) have? I'm currently pursuing a Business Administration degree myself.
Also it looks like I'm going to be playing Imperial Agent and Consular. I don't really have much to say about the PvP/PvE thing. I'd rather we just drop the issue.
I'm currently in Business School, but I already have a degree in computer engineering so business school is like a 2 year long vacation. All the same, I really would like to have this game available starting with the summer. That would just make things so much easier.

To some degree, that's why I'm going to start with those classes on both sides. The gunslinger thing is something I just can't resist already, but adding a smuggling angle. Bees Knees. The Imperial Agent is a class I want to try purely because it seems like the class that will cover the most unexplored territory Star Wars wise. Thrawn would, obviously, be the closest, but he's not even in the movies. Tarkin is there, but he's also super high up in terms of hierarchy because there only are two Sith Lords. If they do crazy DPS, I wonder if their popularity will change.
I registered Imperial Agent, but I have a feeling that I will want to switch to the most underrepresented class in the guild to help balance things out. I might have already done that with picking the Agent, but we'll see.
I would also like to chime in on the thanks to DevCharles for the early setup stuff. I just cannot wait for this game to come out and I will do everything possible to set up what I can while it is not out. I am also looking forward to being in a PA guild after foraging through the PUG wilderness for most of my WoW experience.

My guess is you've already accomplished your objective, there, Agent.
I'm rolling an Imperial alt at some point, and it'll be an agent, but mainly because I'm hoping I can play it like a KOTOR/Alpha Protocol crossover.

Really looking forward to this one, and in reference to the whole guild thing... I haven't sought out every scrap of information as much as I could have, but I just don't feel like I have enough information to decide what kind of server I want to go with. (Will RP-PVP be a thing? Man, that different planets different rules thing would be awesome!)
The types of server listed for the Guild HQ system were to help broadly divide guilds into categories, to assist in their placement in the import (AKA 'Deployment') phase pre-launch.
They are not a definitive record of what server types SWTOR will have at launch, so you should not assume they are.
The Guild HQ FAQ is for FAQs about the Guild HQ system - not the game as a whole.
Long time lurker here. Just apped to the guild as a sith warrior, although I may go inquisitor instead. I'm debating, since my WoW main is a shadow priest. Looking forward to playing with you guys.

Hah hah - History, actually, but I was silly and did most of my electives in comp. sci. and math. I've got more than 8 years of experience now as a consultant, most of that dealing with business strategy and analysis at transportation and related industries (airlines, container shipping, TL / LTL trucking, real estate, manufacturing, freight forwarding, transportation-focused BI tool developers, etc.). The past year has been much more IT focused than the previous 7.
RP-PvP servers tend to die a quick death population-wise.
They very well may not bother making any.
Though accurate, this makes me feel defensive and sad.
Defias Brotherhood (WoW EU RP-PvP realm) was medium-to-high population from the day it was started to when I stopped playing, so I wouldn't say it's very accurate.
The real problem was with the other RP-PvP realms. Most people were already on Defias, and the more RP-PvP realms Blizzard started up the thinner spread their population got. So, there's nothing wrong with RP-PvP realms themselves, but they're kind of a niche thing so you don't really need more than one or two of them.

Perhaps it's an issue then of overestimating the prospective population of people who will roll a RP-PvP server. Maybe they should only have one and a couple RP-PvE for the forum RP refuse to inhabit.

I'm sure WoW has enough interested people for a PvP-RP server. I'm also sure they have enough interested people in a server where everything is replaced by clowns. Because WoW has that many people.

I'm going to go out on a crazy limb here and say TOR isn't going to have 10+ million players or whatever it is now at launch.
It's a Star Wars game. It's going to have a lot of people playing it, even if not 10+ million, and I find it rather impropable that it wouldn't have enough people to populate one or two RP-PvP realms.
In general I find the hatred for RP realms on these forums quite odd. Both in this and the Rift thread people talk of them like they're the worst thing ever, when all my experiences point to them being just like any other realms, except you don't (always) get made fun of when you try to roleplay.
Im pretty sure there are going to be more people who want to RP in a Star Wars game than WoW simply because Star Wars has been around since 1979 and Warcraft came around in 1994. Id be kinda surprised if there werent people who have been devoted Star Wars fans since the Episode III playing this game (that is to say, I expect there to be some Olds in this game, as opposed to pretty much any other game Ive ever played where Im generally surprised when Im playing and people are telling me that theyre staying up until their teenager comes home, or those awkwardly hilarious moments where parents are telling their kids to go to bed over Vent).
Now that I think about it, I really want to be in a guild of Olds just so I can hear them tell their kids to stop playing and go to bed.
