Knuckles hasn't shown up in a mainline game for five years. Sonic Team finally has their shit together. When he makes his big return, it's gonna be all
Echidona, that's what I'm representing,
Never seen a mic-hog spit like a menace.
Wild Canyon fun? I gotta chase a bat, huh,
Yeah, Rouge, she's sexy and smooth!
Hm, I thought we had heard somewhere that Launch base is in the 3DS version?
Anyway, thanks for the video.
No one really knows whats up with the 3DS version. Unlike the console versions, it's being handled by Dimps, and from just about every impression around, it sounds very subpar. The classic stages, at least. From what I've heard, they don't feel anything like Classic Sonic.
People who expected the Modern Stages to be Sonic Rush should note that the Modern Stages in the 3DS version aren't really like that. More accurately, they're more like 2D versions of the current 3D Modern Sonic. Which, while very similar to Sonic Rush, still has noticeable differences.
I'll probably end up loving the thing, but I don't expect good reviews. With regards to the levels which will be in it, it's anybody's guess. Reports have been all over the place. Some interviews have people saying it'll be a collection of handheld sonic levels (sans Game Gear, idiotically), but then we see video of a boss from Launch Base Zone, and get confirmation that Casino Night Zone is in the game (which doesn't gel with the claim that it'll be made up of levels not in the console version, since that version is getting Casino Night Zone via DLC). It's not even known how the level structure will work - people know how the console versions are laid out, with even when the cutscenes will play. No one knows if boss battles in the 3DS version happen at the end of a zone, of if they're their own act or what.
A universal complaint about the game is the poor graphics, though. Especially compared to its gorgeous big brother. The graphics in the 3DS version look unacceptable for a DS game, let alone a 3DS game. They look bare, bland. I saw one person compare the difference in visuals the 360/PS3 and 3DS versions of Green Hill Zone, to the difference in the genesis and game gear version of Green Hill Zone. Which is pretty insulting, considering the hardware.
And finally, another major concern with the 3DS version is that the level layout for Green Hill Zone in the E3 demo was lifted straight from Green Hill Zone Act 1 on the Sega Genesis. Like, 1:1. Exact same level layout. No word was ever given if it was just a demo level thrown together for E3, or if it will stay like that, and no word on if the other classic zones will be the same way. But as it is, that's insulting and it's counter to the entire point of Sonic Generations - new content with the very best levels in the entire series. I don't want to play Act 1 again, I want a new act.
In short, the 3DS version is kinda up in the air. It was rumored to be delayed at one point, which would gel with sega's admission that it has problems and that they're working to fix them, but it was never really officially announced. I'm all for a delay if it means a better game, though.
I'll be the first to claim that I think the modern gameplay looks way more fun than the classic in that video. When I play the 3DS version, I'm looking most forward to the modern gameplay.
So, this is something which none of the people who have been leaking me stuff has told me, but I'm willing to stake my reputation that Palmtree Panic is in the game. In fact, I'm willing to bet that a ton of other zones not in the leaked level list are in the game. How so?
All the badniks in Sonic Colors, are from the zones in Sonic Generations. Crabmeat, motobug, spinna, etc. Every zone we know about in Sonic Generations, the badniks from those zones appeared in Sonic Colors.
Similarly, every zone we know about in Sonic Generations also appeared in this video Sega put out to celebrate Sonic's history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BBdbNdimXE
Now the thing people notice about that video is that it also features a bunch of zones that we're pretty sure are NOT in Sonic Generations, such as Palmtree Panic.
Why am I bringing all this up? Because, at one point, Sonic Colors had pata-bata in it, a badnik from Palmtree Panic:
We know that, in Sonic Generations on the consoles, there will be "something" which takes the place of the Special Stages. In sonic colors, we had the sonic simulator, which contained short mini-acts where-in completing every "act" in a "zone" netted you a chaos emerald. Several of these acts were pulled straight from sonic 1 - green hill zone, marble zone, spring yard zone, labyrinth zone, star light zone, and scrap brain zone all had their first acts represented in the sonic simulator. You unlocked these acts by finding red rings, which were hidden in the normal stages. These red rings are also in generations.
There is a "Genesis" option in Sonic Generations, the purpose of which we do not yet know. In addition to the zones we know are in Sonic Generations that we saw in the 20th anniversary video, they also show 14 other zones not present. 14/2 = 7, the number of chaos emeralds.
To tie this all together, I think pata-bata's presence in Sonic Colors is evidence that all the zones we saw in the 20th anniversary WILL be in Sonic Generations, but not as full zones, but rather as mini-zones in the Genesis option. Namely, I'm willing to bet money that Palmtree panic will be explicitly a zone in Sonic Generations, via the Genesis option, and that Pata-bata himself will appear in it. I think that, as you gather the red rings in generations, you open up bonus mini zones under the Genesis option, which take place from previous sonic games. For every 2 acts you beat, you get an emerald.
...please tell me the music's been released. As long as they don't screw up the music, we'll be fine. Chemical Plant is just one of those iconic tracks that they better not have taken an axe to.
I can has cheezburger, yes?

While I will never doubt your powers of deduction, TSR, I kinda hope you're wrong.
Yet more Green style stages in Generations? Maaan.
...also, sup with the attitude that Sonic Colors and Generations are linked!? I was all over that, months ago. >:O
I was of the opinion that Colors was the Wii's Generations.
Oh brilliant

Key thing of note; the dude confirms that some stuff that was leaked is not going to be in the finished game. What that is, ain't clear. I doubt it'll be a change of levels or anything, probably minor stuff that the fanbase has extrapolated to lofty conclusions...
Also; he defends the spindash physics. Personally, I liked it, but I know classic purists hated it (along with everything else they hate cause they're stuck in 94) and comes out and says Classic Sonic is not 100% like he was on the Genesis, and is more a 90% representation of classic Sonic gameplay.

I'm getting the impression that everything will go back to almost normal after the Genesis arc since A) rebooting the universe was one of Robotnik's evil schemes, and the pre-reboot issue ended abruptly with quite a few loose ends that were recently introduced
The comic's normal non-genesis quality is leaps and bounds better than what it used to be in both writing and art, but if you just want to read Genesis it will be collected into a hardcover later.

I think you have a whole different continuity over in the US to what we had here in the UK. I loved the UK series plenty, but there was none of these Sally + Freedom Fighter characters.
All I remember was Techno the canary, Amy's friend, and a rival for Knuckles - a white half robot Echidna named Zachary.
Oh yeah, someone sent me a few issues of the Fleetway comic once. Reading them was a really bizarre experience. I think Amy wore a white t-shirt and was a bounty hunter/mercenary/vigilante or something. If I was completely insane, I'd try to collect the Fleetway comics after I complete my Archie collection (I'm missing about 10 issues of Sonic, an issue of the Tails miniseries, and the second year of Sonic Universe.)
This is being released in the UK Soon. 512 pages (about the first 16 issues) of the Archie comics. It's a full size release (rather than the tiny digest forms Archie puts out over here) but it won't be in color.

Ooh, I remember more! There was a huge arc in another dimension, full of desert and aliens.
Also, a Metal Knuckles robot that nearly killed Sonic.
Also also, Super Sonic was evil. And he eventually became split from Sonic, lost his memory, and was adopted by a nice family.
You know, the more I see, the more I'm convinced they should have kept the classic Sonic design and used it in every game, so much better than 'modern' Sonic.

I disagree, Mr Fraggle. I like Modern Sonic.
But Classic does look like the more fun half of Generations.

The biggest thing that bugs me with SA2 is Shadow Sonic. Seriously, wtf was all that about?
It's a shame that they didn't start SA1 with stuff like Sonic Colors. Imagine what'll we have now after that many years of developing that line of gameplay?

Do we yet have any indication of how many acts of each sonic style we'll be getting per zone?
they look unbelievable. Like, even better than those.
Can't wait to see how they treat Sky Sanctuary, I loved the visual style of that level.
