Kickass. I was debating whether to pick it up for the 360 or PC; that sale makes it a real easy choice.

To anyone on the fence: this game is absolutely worth it at $15. In a surprising move, the PC even got the best version if your machine is beefy enough.

Not sure about the new DLC, however. Is this an actual two act stage, or just a pinball minigame?

    It's a minigame.

Yeah I'd say get Sonic CD instead of the DLC unless you are a particularly a fan of the mini-game. I think it mentioned a different menu design as well in the steam page, but I may have just been confused.

Sonic CD has a whole bunch of pinball in some pretty awesome levels. Just picked it up yesterday along with Sonic and Sega Racing which although looks fantastic and is on iphone, only has local multiplayer...could have been something special but at the sale price it was an easy buy.

I'm a little stuck on sonic cd (below) but I will get back to it later...any tips if appreciated if you recognise the section. Tips > youtube walkthrough :)

Are you wondering how to get through this segment from the right side of the moveable wall to left?

Because if so, you're going the wrong way. :P

I bought the Casino Night DLC. It's pretty neat. And the music is incredible. I bought Generations at launch for $20 and I wanted to support this game and Sega's PC endeavors, so $1.60 is fine with me.

Sonic 4 Episode 1 is also available now, but it's $10. That's almost as much as Generations at the moment!

Also, I would highly recommend Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing to anyone who's considering it for $5 on Steam. The PC version doesn't have multiplayer, but it's got a good amount of single player content and the gameplay is really good.

I have Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing on the 360. It is indeed quite good! It's like Mario Kart with less silly goosery.

Goddamn that last boss was shitty, fun game though.

Are the other modern sonics really that bad? The trailers at the end just kinda looked like the second stages in generations.

Unleashed was pretty good. Colors is pretty great, although a bit different.

Unleashed and Colours are the only 2 that play in a similar fashion to this one, and they're both fantastic.

Unleashed is closer to Generations, but the levels are much longer and, of course, it also has the Werehog levels which kind of play like a "God of War-lite" if you're into that kind of thing. Although it does have quite possibly the worst final boss in the series.

Colours is a little bit slower, as you don't get as much chance to re-fill the boost gauge but it also has the Wisp powers which adds a really nice new flavour to the series. And, on the flipside to Unleashed, it has a fantastic final boss.

Holy crap this game is such a nostalgia trip. I played through the first set of levels + boss back before Christmas, and just got back to it tonight. The music really takes me back.

    Sometimes, in very shameful ways.

"Rolling around at the speed of sound, I got places to go, gotta follow my rainbow..."

I don't even remember which game that was from (and given that it had lyrics, it probably wasn't a very good game), but when I found myself singing along tonight, I couldn't help but smile.

    Thank you, Sega.

Based on it being in the Sonic Adventure 2 level, I'd say Sonic Adventure 2. Also, that song is awesome.

Nah. SA2 is a good game. I mean, it gets a bit bogged down with the eggman/tails and knuckles/rouge levels, but it's still really good.

Yeah as someone who never played SA2 the stupidly cheery pop punk song for the city level was pretty good.

Some more SA2 music from the 3DS version, which I assume no one has played. They included Radical Highway and the Biolizard fight. Both things that Shadow, not Sonic, did. Huh.

Classic Radical Highway got the Classic Speed Highway treatment. It is good.
Modern Radical Highway got the dubstep treatment and it is fuckawful.
Supporting Me (Biolizard) just got cleaned up and had a little Live and Learn riff added. Pretty great. You can actually understand the lyrics now.
While I'm at it! 3DS version also got a remake of the finest piece of music in the entire series, the Sonic 3 Final Boss music. It is fuckin' incredible

It's just a great remaster until 1:35. Then it all gets intense.

So, how do I access the casino nights DLC? Do I have to finish the game first or something?

It has its own little spot on the hub map, it should be open from the start. It's to the right of the Sky Sanctuary area.

There's a demo for this on Steam now. I didn't see anyone else mention it. The price went back up on the Steam store, but it's still $15 on Amazon (all copies activate on Steam) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005XOJ6NK/ for anyone who might want to buy it after giving the demo a shot.

In other news, I finally got all of the red rings and completed all of the missions. I only have Time Attacker and Can't Touch This left to get, but I don't think I'm going to do either one. Time attack mode keeps crashing now (it never did this before!) and Can't Touch This is bullshit.

This game is pretty great. I am baffled why they even included a lives system though, as other platformers (like Rayman) show how that's unnecessary. Lives mean nothing for time trials or challenges, so it's really just an annoyance when going for red rings or testing out different routes through a level.

See, I was like 15 or 16 when that dropped, so meh. Totally cynical by that point, and all the magic of early video games would remain firmly locked in the SNES/Genesis and PSX for me. Now, the original Sonic trilogy + S&K? Those are fantastic. I also just played Sonic CD for the first time, and it was sublime.

Not sure where to put this, but Sonic 4 Episode 2 is getting a stealth release.
The ESRB has granted Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 an "E for Everyone" rating on the PC, 360, PS3 and Windows Phone platforms, thankfully without dyeing its sideburns in the process. Usually, an ESRB rating is indicative of an impending release date announcement or, in the case of badly promoted games, an impending release.

Android, iOS and Wii classifications are missing from the ESRB's breakdown of the title, which isn't to say that those version don't or won't exist, but it is a good sign that they may not be among the first batch of platforms to receive Sonic 4: Episode 2. Still, it's at least reassuring to know that the game exists, which is more than some people can say.

    http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/26/sonic-the-hedgehog-4-episode-2-rated-by-esrb-for-consoles-pc/

That's odd, especially considering how hyped ep 1 was. Wonder why the silence? Trying to keep expectations low? Stung by Generations' low sales?

Well when they first advertised Episode 2 on a mans face, that kinda gave away how they would want to promote this game.

Also, THIS GORGEOUS MOTHER FUCKER. I want it so bad, I pre-ordered then cancelled because it was a bit too much at the moment. But then I realized they don't bill me till it's ships in Q3 2012.

You think it's in bad taste to pre-order again right after I cancelled?

April's Super Sonic Special Magazine will have a Sonic 4: Episode 2 story in it. I wondered why they were putting out an Episode 2 tie-in so early, but that could explain it.

The Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations tie-ins (which were just short retellings of the intro of each game) didn't happen until the months the games came out.

The Sonic Generations Wii U port is just a rumor.

There is a rumor of a brand new Sonic game for Wii U, though TSR doesn't believe it. Then again, considering how well Sonic Colors sold and how poorly the Wii-less Sonic Generations sold, I could see Sega doing something for the system sooner rather than later.

The month it came out it hit maybe 25th on the console game charts, which is much, much worse than other Sonic games did.

I've heard it's managed to get some surprisingly decent revenue on Steam, though it's largely due to some steep sales.

    Seconded.

If they can get it to run as well as the PC i'll double dip in a second.

Also Sega should port Sonic CD so i can have Sonic 1-Knuckles, CD, Colors, and Generations on the same system.
