So 2010 has come and gone, resulting in one of the heftiest years of quality games. Before your poor miserable wallets can recuperate from the onslaught of Steam sales and Amazon coupons, 2011 is poised to curb stomp your cash with a release list that could be just as huge, if not bigger, than last year's.
So what are some titles you're looking forward to? What are some games you're cautiously optimistic about? What do you hope to see more of? What surprise announcements do you hope to see?
For major games, we've got Batman: Akham City, Mass Effect 3, and Uncharted 3.
Oh yeah, and a little something called the
3DS, which is going to drive you stark-raving mad once the ad campaigns and message boards explode in Nintendo domination. Seriously, the Wii release is going to look like an after-school club compared to the full-on church that will sacrifice love ones under the altar of the almighty 3DS.
A game to keep an eye on? I'm pleasantly surprised of what I've seen of the newest Tomb Raider. Having never been a fan of the series and especially the character, the new makeover and darker tone has my interest piqued for the first time. I've also been told that Square is going to market this thing bigger than they do with their FF titles.
As for announcements, right now I'm merely hoping that "
Final Fantasy: Type 0" ends up becoming something intriguing. Rumors range from a reboot of the series with a heavy Western development, to the long awaited FFVII Remake. Either option sounds good, so let's hope it's not some minor side-story game.
Share your hopes and fears for the new year.

Tomb Raider
Batman: Arkham City
Infamous 2
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
My fears for the year:
That any of the above suck
If two or more of them suck, it is time for me to leave this planet
I'd say you're good on 2 out of those 4.

Very excited for the 3DS, but I hardly play either my DS or PSP anymore. I think I'm going to give the system some market time and wait for a solid library to build up before taking the plunge. Couldn't care less about the 3D effect of the system. Depending on the timing, I may even just wait for the inevitable revision model (3DS Lite or whatever they decide to call it).
Can't wait to see how DNF turns out. I still have a hard time believing it's actually coming out. New Deus Ex and Mass Effect 3 are the only other titles I can think of offhand that I'm really looking forward to.
Marvel vs capcom 3
Arcana heart 3
Ouugon musou kyoku
Team ico collection
The last guardian
Two worlds 2
Duex Ex 3
For the 3DS I'm going to wait for awhile.
Also hoping for a PSP successor. Other hope is that The witch hunt quickly translates Uminkeo Ep8 fast.
edit: I'lll be looking out for the new tomb raider and the tomb raider HD collection too i guess.
You never know
Uncharted 3 and Batman may suck :P
Nah, I really, really hope they do well with Tomb Raider, and everything I've seen so far has me incredibly optimistic.
Infamous 2 I think is the most sure-fire one out of this. I hope Rocksteady can make lightning strike twice with Batman.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Just looks cool. I love the aesthetic the game has going for it. All the robotics and the guns, they look so slick I just want to touch them, if that makes any sense. Only other game that has made me feel like that is MGS4.
Mass Effect 2. I'm a PS3 guy. Very much looking forward to it.
Yakuza 4. I skipped 3. I knew it was a good game, but so much was cut. It sounds like they are keeping everything in 4, and I hear it's a better game than 3, so .... yeah.
Last Guardian. The other reason I got a PS3.
Guild Wars 2
The Journey
Red Orchestra 2
Battlefield 3
New Hitman
Mechwarrior
Microsoft Flight
TES V: Skyrim
Old PA forum lookalike style for the new forums | My ko-fi donation thing.
One of my releases is in May, and the rest are all pretty much late year stuff
I'm gonna be bored most of this year, I think
EDIT: In terms of new releases. I've bought a glut of games recently that I have to work through, so...I'll be fine.
DoW 2: Retribution
Witcher 2
Batman: Arkham City
W40k: Space Marine
Looking forward to more steam sales (D:) and see how the game line-up for Android evolves.
Man, next year is gonna be pretty awesome for fighters..
Dead Space 2
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Dragon Age 2
Deus Ex 2
Infamous 2
Mass Effect 3
TES V: Skyrim
Batman: Arkham City
Games I'm looking out for but probably won't get right away or might just borrow from friend:
Uncharted 3
Two Worlds 2
Mortal Kombat
Arcana Heart 3
Bullet Storm
L.A. Noir
Brink
Red Faction
Modern Warfare 3(if it comes out...)
Gears of War 3
Miles Edgeworth 2
Tekken Tag 2
Last Story
Xenoblade
Oh yeah...Probably get FFXIII: Versus if it is actually ever released.
As for hopes. I'm mainly hope that some of the games I'm went from liking to being cautious about(Red Faction, MW3, etc) turn out to be good.
Oceanic SWTOR Guild - Voidstalker Brigade
Also Little Big Planet 2.
And Dead Space 2, but that's been mentioned.
Catherine
Valkyria Chronicles 3
Ace Attorney Investigations 2
Pokemon Black & White
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
inFamous 2
Arcana Heart 3
That's about it for me so far.
Def getting Portal 2.
Okamiden- D'awwwwww
Witcher 2- Taking a decent RPG and improving its biggest weakness(combat).
Tomb Raider- Looks like a decent reboot
ICO/SotC HD- Finally a US release of the full version of ICO in HD no less. SotC with a good framerate will be good too.
Last Guardian- This is supposed to come out sometime, right?
Dead Space 2- Liked the first one, more of the same
Duke Nukem Forever- Hail to the king, baby!
Xenoblade- Hoping this gets localized. Looks fantastic.
Last Story- See above
Ghost Trick- New game from the Ace Attorney guys
Lost in Shadow- Great looking platformer
Batman:AC- More Bats
3DS and stuff - Dunno release schedule, but here's to buying Zelda again.
Catherine- Looks crazy enough to get my attention.
Crysis 2- Crysis was one of the best fps's in years. Looking forward to making my video card explode.
Journey- Love the art style/atmosphere
Alice: Madness Returns- I love quirky stuff like this.
El Shaddai- See above
Less excited about:
Mass Effect 3- After the disappointment of 2, hopefully they can come up a a plot that doesn't suck (getting back to the main story should help) and improve the combat to make it less boring and repetitive
Uncharted 3- After going all Michael Bay on 2, hoping they can tone it down or at least have it make some sense
Infamous 2- The first one was a little bland and had some bad design decisions (largest island is the one where you have fewest powers). Given that you already have the powers to begin with hopefully that will make it more intesting
Portal 2 - Prepare for retarded memes repeated 10,000 times.
Gears of War 3 - It's hard to stay hyped for trilogies.
Dungeon Siege 3- Obsidian is enough to bring caution to anything
The hoping to hear from soon list:
Mirror's Edge 2-One of the best games of this generation needs a sequel, dammit. Hopefully now that the "Edge" guy has been taken care of they can announce this
Beyond Good & Evil 2- Dammit, Ubisoft. Don't make me invade France to get you to stop going CoD on AC and release this!
More will be added to the list as stuff gets announced etc. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few as well.
F.E.A.R. 3 (or F3AR if you're retarded)
Deus Ex 3
SWTOR
The rest are all optional.
Batman: Arkham City
Beyond Good and Evil HD - Never got that far in the first release, so this is my chance to actually finish it.
Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 -
Catherine - Really looking forward to seeing what happens in this game, it's a pretty interesting concept.
Dead Space 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Looks fantastic so far, hopefully it lives up to the name.
Disgaea 4 - Skipped the last couple of Disgaea's, I think I'm ready to jump back in with the HD sprites.
From Dust - In Chahi I trust.
ICO/Shadow of the Colossus Collection - Updated versions of two of my favourite games. Really can't wait.
Infamous 2
Journey - Not entirely sure what to expect other than a very unique, cool experience.
Killzone 3
LittleBigPlanet 2
Malicious - Cool looking PSN game that's already out in Japan, hopefully it gets localised by someone.
Mass Effect 3 - Looking forward to wrapping up the series. Hopefully it doesn't get delayed till early 2012.
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD - Finally looks like I'll be able to play the game with upgraded graphics and a decent framerate (the latter of which isn't really possible in the PC version...).
Pixeljunk Shooter 2
Pokemon Black/White - First Pokemon I'll have bought in like 5 years. Hopefully I won't get sick of this one like 5 hours into it. I'll pick up whichever version is least popular amongst my friends.
Portal 2 - I'm stoked that they hired the guys that created Tag and that they brought their paint with them. Really looking forward to finally playing it.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Absolutely loved the first two so there's a good chance this'll be my GOTY 2011.
Yakuza 4 - Huge fan of the series and this is meant to be the best of the lot.
I expect I'll end up buying more than that though, since there are a couple of games I'm keeping an eye on, there'll be surprise hits and some that haven't even been announced yet.
Oh and I still think everyone that's expecting The Last Guardian to come out this year are going to be disappointed. Sony would be sending it to die in late 2011, early 2012 is the best time for it.
It's great how Nintendo has killed any interest I once had in a great franchise, though.
Kudos, Nintendo?
I guess that's the trade-off for avoiding the next Spore-level disappointment.
C'est la vie.
Gears of War 3 - I love the Gears series and this looks to be an awesome last part of a trilogy. (To be followed up by an RTS, a spinoff, a prequel and then another trilogy probably )
Portal 2 - Trailers are stellar and I trust Valve greatly to make good games.
-Probably buy unless it's announced it causes leprosy or something-
Batman: Arkham City - First one was amazing.
Diablo III - They're fun games, though I've never been one to get sucked into it like other people I know. I'm usually a one and done on those kinds of games.
Duke Nukem Forever - Gearbox is a great developer and I've been waiting for this game for over 13 years now. Unless it reviews super poorly, I'm totally going to get it.
Mortal Kombat - I love Mortal Kombat and this looks like a fantastic return to roots
Rage - This would have been on the "maybe" list, but I keep hearing good things about it.
Bulletstorm - Looks fun, but the Gears3 beta moved this up from Maybe.
-Maybe-
Tomb Raider - Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light got me interested in the franchise and this seems like a stellar time to get into it. I'll need to know more before I buy in though.
Torchlight 2 - Depends on if they get it out at a time when I don't have much to play and Diablo 3 isn't on the immediate horizion. The first game was fantastic for what I paid for it, but again, I'm a "one and done" kind of guy on these games.
Zelda: Skyward Sword - Depends on how much this breaks the formula. Not that I'm sequel adverse (as evidenced by my previous entries) I'm just getting a little down on the Ocarina formula. It's been almost 15 years. Compare the latest Zelda titles to the latest Mario titles: Mario Galaxy really took the series in a crazy new direction and NSMB brought along a new element with the crazy coop play. If they can do something like that for Skyward Sword, I'll be more likely to buy it.
I don't even care about the Ocarina formula
I like the Ocarina formula
The Ocarina formula carried Ocarina, WW and TP rather well (on the Cube)
What I don't like is that Nintendo has turned Zelda into its whipping boy for turning out its shitty control methods. Twilight Princess Wii, both DS games; all unplayable garbage (in my eyes) due 100% to the controls.
Meanwhile, Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, all the other franchises are looking like the cocks of the walk, still having (for the most part, aside from a new niggles) relatively traditional control schemes and walking away from this stupid motion control fad unaffected.
Fucking. Sucks. Because I like Zelda way more than any of those other franchises! Or did.
Anyway, there are actually a couple other games that matter in 2011, to lesser degrees. Infamous 2 and Mass Effect 3. Infamous was just spectacular, and one of my favorite games of this generation. Mass Effect 2 took a prequel that was really, really faulty in a lot of ways and made something intensely fun - I can't wait to see how better ME3 will be.
I was profoundly worried it was going to be marginally less.
IOS Game Center ID: Isotope-X
I tend to forget that Skyward Sword is a thing that is coming out. I'll definitely get it at release, but I'm not hyped about it the same way I am about Portal 2 or the 3DS.
Arkham City
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Diablo 3
Dragon Age 2
that's pretty much the definitive list for any PC gamer. I guarantee no matter what kind of gamer you are there will be at least 1 or 2 games out of those 5 you will like.
