I might be down. I mean, depending whether or not I'll be playing with arthritic old men who are more my skill level or cyborg teen Asians who will head shot me across the map as soon as I hop out from behind a wall.

I would say that I'd be on the cyborg half, but that's only if we do UT2k4 or UT3. I have completely and totally forgotten how to play UT99

Recommended DM additions would be DM-Morpheus, DM-Turbine, DM-Phobos.

Right, dicked around against bots for a match last night. Just have to patch it and I'll be good to go. Seems a bit slower paced than Quake Live thankfully so maybe I won't suck eggs.

If you guys have a server we could switch to then recommend it. I've been asking for a couple days and no one has suggested anything else. I basically chose this one because it was strictly dm without any weird mods or crap we didn't want. It's really hard to find servers that don't have anything extra installed 10 years later, at least I was having trouble. But if anyone can find or even create a server for us, then we can switch over.

edit: I just played a match with real people. Presumably real people who have been playing for the last 10 years. I got 36 kills, 2 killing sprees, and 2 multi kills. You guys might want to watch out for me.:P

Either that or it was just complete luck and I still suck.

Ok guys, I found a server that should be better for us. It only holds 10, but I figure less than that will show up. We will be meeting in unreal://85.236.100.43:8377

Our backup server will be unreal://64.237.39.216:7777, which is the server that rotates the 2 maps.

The OP has been updated. Add these servers to your favorites, guys.

Okay, updated and running. I tested the server out, seems to run fine. My ping was pretty high >150 but it will probably settle.

and if this plays out well, there is always QuakeLive

Couldn't find my copy of UT99 or UT2k4, so I ordered both on Steam and am downloading now. I'll patch up this evening and test things out when I get a chance. I'm in PST so I'll be late to the party tomorrow, hopefully people are still playing when I get off work.

For those who need them, you can still get the map packs too:

Well, Epic did the same thing with UT3, and most PC companies still do this.

Just a note about the community patches: they break UnrealEd (it won't start), so if you plan on doing modding, stick to v436.

Or, make a backup of Unrealed.exe and put it back after the patch.

My copy is from gog.com so I can just re-download it if I want to.

Just to be sure though, you're saying that mods won't work with the fanmade patch?

No, the CPs are backwards-compatible. IIRC that was part of the agreement Epic had with the devs.

The GOTY should Bonus Pack 1 and 2,

I have no idea on the gog version, but you can check by going to Player Settings and looking for the Nali and Nali WarCow. If you also see Xan mk2 and Warboss, you also have the 3rd and 4th bonus pack.

Damn, I forgot just how much I loved UT. Reminds me of just how lackluster I found quake 3 :).

Haha, and reminds me of TNT2 vs Voodoo3 vs S2000 'fights' back then. Not that the s2000 was any good, but it was actually not a terrible UT card thanks to compressed texture support (and great FPS at low resolution.)

So apparently from what I read on gog.com, bonus map packs 1-3 are included in the GOTY edition. 4 is not, but they're all in that link that nusu provided, and I added it to the OP.

Oh man, I remember being in the market right then. I had just gotten my first part-time job, and 3DFX vs nVidia vs. Diamond was the question that needed answering. I had played through the original Unreal in software and it was about time for some trilinear filtering!

I'm getting some weird "jumpiness". Unreal Tournament: GOTY from Steam on Win 7 64. It selected "Direct 3D" as the driver (I have an ATI 5770) and the game is very jerky. Not low frame rate jerky, but speed-up-and-slow-down in time jerky. Like there's some kind of crazy lag, even though I'm playing a practice session at home. Anyone face anything similar?

You have to click on Show All Devices, and make sure it's in the UT/System folder.

I'm waiting on the server right now, so start getting on, and get ready to meet the flak cannon.

I'd check when you get home. People might still be on if we're having extreme amounts of fun.

Maybe even tomorrow night if we can get enough people. I'd be down for later tomorrow night.

Anyway, I would consider tonight a success. So now we make a choice. Keep it going next weekend? And UT99, UT2004, or a different game? I think we should def. keep the old school game theme going, though. What do you guys think?

Indeed, great times tonight. I'm surprised I did as well as I did (going 11-0 before my first death was pretty awesome), let alone actually won a round. I was never all that great at the game. I think that, if we do play UT99 next time, we should consider a different server. I don't think many of us playing tonight are from the UK (where the server was based) judging by the pings I saw most people with.

I'm down for either game next time. I completely missed the boat with UT2K4, so it'll be a whole new experience for me.
