I wonder if my PC key would work in the Mac version of the game...
Yes.
Shit. I'm tempted to torrent the Mac version, go install Steam on my mom's PC to get the key and insert that...
...ugh, but it's so legally shakey....
You're on OSX, right? Try the Linux installer, it should go.
Probably is I bought the game on Steam. Obviously I can't download those files on a Mac.
Downloading it on my mom's old Dell (So old that it can't even run the game.) gonna see if maybe I can do a network transfer of the whole folder once it's done.

Of my experience, the game is remarkably resistant to moving around and moving between installs and OS's. The hard part will be the CD-key, though utilities exist for this on Windows.
It was fun, but I couldn't help but thing that I was completely stomping you guys, at least until that other person came in and got consistent double kills

Oh you were. I just need to get my sea legs back. And we need more mans on the servers.
edit: Also, the map I was trying to think of was Boarding Action from Halo 1. How embarrassing.
We should be able to. The worst ping was Anyonymous, and he was barely over 200ping the whole time.
It does seem to have a quirk about switching maps, but that might have been because it hasn't been used in a few months.

So what's the deal with abandoned servers? I never understood it. Are they computers people never turned off? Or are they still paying for them for some reason or what?

Usually they are people who hid a copy of the dedicated server in their company's mainframe, actually. Some groups still pay for servers, but they usually have people play on them at least once a week.
In fact, one of the biggest Unreal fansites has a group playing on all 3 of their servers every weekend, usually.

That's crazy. I never knew that. Ok, well be sure to post the server info again like Thurs. night or so, and we'll be there. You guys want to shoot for Friday at 7 PM EST again?
After about 5 hours of downloading and transferring files I finally got UT2004 up and running on my Mac. It was pretty much a straighforward process in the end hampered by my slow internet and network speeds.
Looks great at 2560x1440. I'll have to look up a .ini tweak guide to see what I can squeeze out of the framerate and draw distance and whatnot.
Tempted to see if I can get the same thing up and running for UT3.

Beyond Unreal, I'm assuming? Those guys are pretty awesome. I played with em for a few weeks before being swallowed by...
I don't really remember what I got swallowed by. It has been a few years.

BU wasn't really competitive and was prone to stuff like Onslaught or TAM

I really like UT99 as well as 2004, but I'm not too big on 3. Maybe it has something to do with coming out after Gears of War. Which, don't get me wrong, is an awesome game too, but I just feel like it influenced it somehow. And they're two completely different games. They should stay that way.

I like 3 well enough, it feels different than 2K4 but I'm pretty happy with either. I usually think of 3 as a glorified tech demo for the Unreal engine than a game. Still fun though, and pretty to look at.

UT3 does play a lot like UT1 with vehicles though, in my opinion. It's main problems at this point is really just that the mod community is a touch slow.
I didn't stay on for too long last time because I find competitive multiplayer exhausting. I plan on getting boozed up this Friday so maybe I can last longer. Are we still doing ut99? 2004?

I've done this before for other games with pretty good results. As you can see I actually submitted the tip for American McGee's Alice.

My left hand actually started cramping. Cramping!
edit: Also, I have been playing UT2k4 for over 20 hours these last two weeks, so I'm a lot more practiced right now.
Let's set something up for Friday or Sat. night. Elliot, was that your server you posted or something?
It was the first one I found that didn't have stupid mutators, allowed map voting, and wasn't likely to be used on friday

That I'm stuck with a six-year-old GPU that 1) ATI no longer supports, and 2) doesn't even support pixel shader 3.0 probably doesn't help.
I have no issue running UT3 on my old Mac under the Windows 7 Beta. It's just, again, the whole Mac to Windows thing I need to sort out.

I'm not sure what you mean, I ran UT3 fine on an core 2 duo, 4gb, and 8800.
I would so love to play some Quake again.

As far as I know, there is no Mac/Linux port of UT3
Ah, it appears one was announced but never released.

It should be patched up, and all I can tell different from the disc version is that the splash screen doesn't mention Atari anymore.
