Whisper Creek Promo: HUGE GUY found, Hacksaw flying in to play Charles.
Ok, I'm shooting a promo for our mini-series at the end of the month. It's a prelude that ties into the main storyline and showcases what kind of show the viewer will be in for. Using the Red One super hi-def camera again, plus renting a real dolly track and a jib crane and a bunch of extras are coming and a police car and one of the stuntmen from Smallville, etc. etc. We also have a good shot of getting this on CTV when it's done> IF I can make a high-quality product. I'm not worried about anything from cinematography to makeup. We have some talented people coming. I'm only worried about the actors.
We're already casting but there are two characters I'm having a hard time finding an actor for. "Jimmy" and Charles. Can you play a jittery, yet friendly psych patient? Can you be a near-comatose giant that suddenly erupts into a towering RAGE? We've been getting a better caliber of actors interested since our last project, so I'm not worried about the female cast. Unfortunately, guys are always the hardest actors to find for some reason.
Thought I'd post here. Oh yeah, here is a link to the script below:
...he knows when you are sleeping,
he knows when you’re awake...
As snow falls on to the window outside, a white teddy bear in a red Santa hat sits on the sill. Christmas music is coming from the speakers overhead.
Patients mill around in the day room while a couple of nurses are handing out pills. In the middle of the room, a very large patient with a shaved head is sitting in his pajamas, staring absently at the table. A short, cute nurse with a name-tag that says, “BETTY” walks by and wipes some drool from his chin.
There you go, Jimmy. We’ve got
turkey coming. Are you looking
forward to having some turkey?
...he knows wether you’ve been bad
or good...so be good for goodness
Jimmy barely moves his head to look at her.
Of course you are! There’ll be
potatoes and cranberry sauce, won’t
that be nice?
Jimmy continues to stare at the table.
A beautiful woman in a black female business suit is walking into the day room, accompanied by a tall female nurse with the name-tag, “Nancy”.
There he is...He hasn’t said a word
in years. Who did you say you were
I’m his sister.
The Business Woman walks away from the nurse to join Jimmy at the table. A nervous-looking patient--CHARLES--sees her and moves out of the way. She sits down across from Jimmy.
Jimmy looks up slightly.
BUSINESS WOMAN (CONT’D)
(keeping her voice low)
I know you don’t have a sister.
Give me your hand.
Jimmy places his massive hand on the table. The Business Woman holds his hand beneath hers and closes her eyes. Charles is watching closely from across the room. There
is a low hum and the slightest hint of a blue light coming
from the Business Woman’s hand.
BUSINESS WOMAN (CONT’D)
We’re going to need your help.
Jimmy’s eyes grow wide. A few moments pass. The Business
Woman gets up from the table and leaves him. Jimmy watches
I’m sorry about that, it must be
hard for you to see him like this.
The Business Woman leaves the room.
INT. PSYCH WARD - DAY ROOM - NIGHT
The patients are seated around tables, eating Christmas
dinner hungrily. Jimmy is still staring straight ahead,
ignoring his meal.
(under his breath)
You gonna eat that, Jimmy?
Did you just say something, Jimmy?
Nurse Betty notices that Jimmy is speaking. She begins to
What’s that, Jimmy? Go where?
Go where, Jimmy? Where you gotta
Jimmy STANDS and FLIPS the table full of Christmas food.
INT. SECURITY STATION – DAY
Two SECURITY GUARDS are sitting in their chairs, talking
casually to an AIDE.
All three men stand up from their chairs and run out of the
INT. PSYCH WARD - HALLWAY - NIGHT
The two guards and the aide are SPRINTING down the hallway.
They reach the end and BURST into the day room. They can hear SCREAMING.
INT. PSYCH WARD - DAY ROOM – NIGHT
All three men see what’s happening and pause for a moment.
SECURITY GUARD #1
Jimmy is standing up, two patients KNOCKED OUT at his feet.
He is holding Betty up in the air by her THROAT. She is
SQUIRMING and starting to PASS OUT.
All three men rush forward. Jimmy THROWS Betty onto a table
of food. He SMACKS the first Security Guard in the face,
dropping him. He easily TOSSES the Aide aside. He grabs the
second Security Guard.
Jimmy HEAD BUTTS the Security Guard unconscious and then lets him slump to the floor. The first Security Guard comes at him, Jimmy TOSSES him into a wall.
Jimmy walks over the unconscious bodies to the exit.
INT. PSYCH WARD - JANITOR’S CLOSET – NIGHT
Jimmy is standing over an unconscious Janitor. He reaches
down and starts to pull off his clothes. There is a thick
coat hanging on the wall.
EXT. HIGHWAY – DUSK
A large man wearing a winter coat and coveralls is making his way down the road with his head covered in a hood. It’s
Jimmy. A police car WAILS past him, SIRENS blaring.
Jimmy walks past a large green sign that says:
WHISPER CREEK 90 MILES.
Like it, hate it? Are you a HUGE friggin guy with some acting chops?
Jimmy's words slowly build in intensity from a whisper to a screaming shout. For the final line, I'm not going to tell you to actually flip a table, but acting it out would suffice. Also, please add one shot of yourself sitting at a table with your head down, filmed from across the room.
Please provide a full body shot.
You don't have to act out everything he does, just the lines when he is eating next to Jimmy. Charles is meek and doesn't talk very loud.
Upload auditions to vimeo.com or youtube.com (Make it private if you need to) and e-mail the link to firstname.lastname@example.org
