This thread has shown me that I can probably get sneakers that pass as dress shoes, which is great since those shoes are typically equal parts expensive and uncomfortable.

Listen, this is the sneaker thread, for awesome kicks. Not the boring Midwesterner thread, for people who have the taste of an obese 45-year old mother who lives in Columbus, OH.

Speaking of kicks, I am really down with these Sony/SUPRA collab high-tops that just came out. Sadly you can only get them through some stupid sweepstakes, to publicize some fashion headphones that Sony just put out I guess.

    SKYIIxSONY_frnt-1.jpg

edit: here's the contest link http://agenda.complex.com/sonypiiq/

no purchase necessary, apparently -- so I entered because fuck it.

Nope, those are pretty hideous too, like that attitude.

I used to be a big fan of Royal Elastics. That's faded as their prices have inched up and their styles turned boring.

    ex:

    U000029138-2.jpg

I still like laceless shoes, though I usually just wear zipper boots now.

I really like the looks of the Keds century collection, but I must say their 1980's and 1970's shoes are fucking horrific.

Meanwhile, I swear by New Balance. Their factory store is the only place I can get 11-4E's with sufficiently small insteps. Unfortunately, the model codes on my shoes have faded to the point that I can't find pictures easily.

I don't see anything wrong with the men's version of those decades, except that they're sort of boring and unoriginal.

Like, that's just a very standard chukka sneaker. Nothing really horrible about it, but nothing really to enjoy either.

So, I really like Supras, and I'm trying to decide between three models (not necessarily only the colorways shown below).

I like modern/minimalist design. These are what I wore pretty much everyday during the summer.

And this is what I more or less wore previously. The grey rubber on the front was yellow on mine though.

You know what I miss? Medium. They had the raddest shoes, and they went out of business before I could scrounge up enough cash to buy a pair.

EDIT: OMG! There's a place selling what's left! Awesome stuff.

    Here!

Depends what he means by "pass as dress shoes."

I mean there's nothing wrong with wearing sneaks to work at most places.

No, but if you're supposed to be wearing dress shoes I can't imagine a company being cool with shell-toes, even if they're good looking.

    probably not

But, if you work somewhere that's biz casual, then there's nothing wrong with wearing awesome kicks to work. I would wear high tops at the AFL all the time.

    Oh, certainly.

But I would suggest that if you are at a biz-cas place, spend some money if you decide to wear sneakers. If you're dressing down, at least wear something really nice.

Fartacus, all the colorful high-top shoes you post are both awesome and have the potential to be so crazy awful at the same tiem and I love it

Still trying to find me some iPath Reeds here in Japan and I am coming to the conclusion that shipping from the states will likely be cheaper.

Black/purple. The cheapest online pair (actually buying them here is about twenty more expensive than buying and shipping in from America) I've found from a reputable shop is Black/Red which is acceptable but damn I like that purple.

EDIT: Wooooo found the black/purple colorway (heh that's an odd word but I like it) for four bucks extra which is acceptable.

Though I have them in navy blue. They are great, and were super cheap.

    I also wear these:

Which are also awesome, and now I need to order some more in other colours... such as these:

Crossposting from SF because I need some help making a decision!

Anyway, I'm about to buy something, because birthday money.

    It's between these three:

In order, Creative Recreation Solano, Heyday Shift RS, Heyday Super Deb

The Solano is the cheapest at 75, the RS next at 80, and the Super Deb for 115.

Thoughts? Anyone got a preference or pure hate for all of them?
