Setting XIII-2 back during the magic war, or whatever it was called, would at least give it a cool excuse for a lot of shit happening on screen. And if the story is dumb as a result, who cares?

You're dumb as a result.
Sorry, it's a terrible idea. At least with a sequel they have the opportunity to tell a decent story.
Versus 13's combat looks totally flat. Slow, and overly animated in a way that suggests unresponsiveness. But I've only played a bit of Kingdom Hearts and found it lacking, and never touched Crisis Core.
Type 0 looks like it might be fun, and another reason for owning a PSP besides Tactics Ogre.
I am still crossing my fingers for TWEWY 3DS at some point 'Course he has a pretty full plate ATM so I'm sure it won't be for awhile (unless god forbid they farm it off to some nobody team). I seriously hope they didn't let so-so sales convince them it's not worth it. It was honestly one of the most original things to come out of Square in years, and I'd hate to see it die.
I *think* he mentioned that he really enjoyed making TWEWY and wants to re-visit it, schedule permitting.
I need to finish that game. Oddly enough, for all the whining Cloud and Squall got, I put it off in the beginning because I found the lead to be an absolute asshole of a character.
he even attempts to kill the girl based solely on the obviously-lying villain. It's like Locke/Celes but even worse
A lot of people say "he gets better", but if no one accepted that with Hope, why does Neku get a pass?

No, he actually learns the lesson that being a whiney emo douchebag is bad. It's actually quite a surprise for a Square game Like, it's a character flaw and not a character trait
I still think some university or something should do a case study. Find a 13 year old kid, kill his mother right before his eyes, and see how long it takes him to "get over it".
I'm sure the results would be very telling at least.
The Wolfman on

He very much wants another TWETY. His management apparently didn't... because they hate good things.
Neku gets a pass because of the serious character development in the game. And the good story. And the fact that it's backed up with the best gameplay on the DS.

It's a better setup than XIII. And they didn't tell a good story with XIII anyway, so who cares if the sequel is pants-on-head retarded?
re: names- This is the creative mind that recently gave us Terra, Ventus, and Aqua. I'm just considering it a small victory that Stella is at least a real name.
Maybe if you're a thirteen year old emo that just took a Latin class for the first time. To me, they're just kind of ridiculously overwrought.
We had like five guys named after the weather. I'll take something that sounds fantasy-ish over Cole Smith or Shiro Takahashi (which might sound exotic here, but is totally a generic Japanese name).
The only possible way Versus will disappoint is if Square pulls an FFXII and rushes it along.
Seeing how they have never done this with Nomura (he may not be the president, but he clearly gets special treatment), that's not likely to happen.
He will not let us down.
Amusingly, Versus is quickly becoming the FFXII of this generation. We've known about the game for so long with so little, and it just feels like it keeps becoming further and further away.
With the Japanese release of XIII-2 this year, I think it's safe to say Versus is still at least a year away from Japanese release still, meaning we're unlikely to get it before holiday 2012. When did they first announce it? 2007?
So I'm a 360 player, rented XIII. It was really pretty, had great design work, and I liked Lightening. But for what I played of it, it was a 30 hour interactive cutscene. But I hate leaving shit unfinished, and I can get this cheap now. Should I pick up a copy?
X-2 and XIII-2: Sequels no one asked for, but ones that Square was happy to thrust at us.
It's also sad that the only FF coming out that I'm interested in is being released on a platform I don't own. Type-0 is looking pretty awesome.
Very tangently related, but this reminds me of how I keep on seeing "too bad this game is going to PSP, the PSP doesn't have enough good games for me to justify buying it" like seven times now. I'm amused how some people can state that multiple times and never make the connection of why they don't make that many popular games for the PSP.
Anyway, I don't find Noctis that bad. I mean, we've had Cloud Strife
whose whole story arc is getting over the "strife" in his life caused by so many horrible things around him and recovering from a mental breakdown.
, Squall Leonheart
A man fighting conflicting emotions while trying to keep a strong front, who is quite brave and courageous at times.
and Tidus
who is "born" into Spira in the ocean.
So it isn't far at all for normal Final Fantasy names.

(and yes, I want to punch Hope in the face)
He's probably my favorite character in the game. Lightning was, until she was relegated to making The Power of Friendship speeches.
Also his life goal is to stab Snow in the face. That is a good life goal.
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
Tea: No matter what I mustn't do a Friendship speech!
Yami: So, Tea...
Tea: FRIENDSHIP IS THE BEST THING EVER, DON'T YOU AGREE?!
I'm sure the results would be very telling at least.

But he goes on to sleep with a girl like 5 years his senior, so I guess in worked out well in his case.

Disappoint.

If I had to bet, I'd say he gets the rest of them in EX mode.
As stupid as X-2 was, it did have a fun as hell battle system. They should use that in another game that is less retarded.

it's when it becomes Noctis Lucis Caelum that we have a problem
Mr. Maximus Decimus Meridius would have words with you sir.
I will agree that Lightening needs more pants, but its no skimpier than before and I really like the armor she has.

Thinking of them as inexplicably Roman does help, though, as long as I can ignore that their names are "Night of Light Sky" and "Star Night Sword"
I hope this isn't a form of bottling up emotions which leads to my insanity.
