What the fuck, Riot. That's the third 6300ip champion in a row. What gives?
The odds of Renekton being anywhere near balanced day 1 are slim. Riot has a bad track record with that, and it's going to be even worse when he has an entirely new resource system. Riot is going to end up tweaking fury over the next few weeks.
Hopefully he won't be terrible, or so broken he gets nerfed into oblivion next patch.

They already tweaked him, in fact. There are some developer posts mentioned he's received nerfs between the champion spotlight of yesterday (day before?) by Phreak and his release today.

I wonder how many people don't actually spend any money on this free to play game. I could rationalize a one time investment but the constant spending of money to try and keep up with champions, skins, rune pages would break someone.
I do like his design and premise, though, and I actually like both his release skins, which never happens, so if I give him a spin when he's free and like him, I'll give him a shot.
But right now I don't really have the runes for him and I don't feel like wasting my money.

We had to tone down a lot of the numbers that you saw in the spotlight, because he was crazy Xin style OP.
So, things like how much Fury he was gaining, the cooldowns of his abilities and general damage numbers got tweaked.
His abilities are exactly as they are in the spotlight though.

Of these two, it's no contest than #2 is the better decision. It's understandable if "I wanted to buy him because he looked overpowered" is a reason you want to purchase, I don't understand how it's an evil corporate strategy, or some other nonsense like that.
He was too strong after taking a good gamble, we fixed it, and it was after Phreak recorded the video so the two don't match up. I'm sorry you feel that is misleading, but I'll make that decision in that circumstance every time to make a better champion and let players have fun both as and against Renekton on patch day. If you like the gameplay you saw, splitting hairs on numbers (when, honestly, you don't even know what they were and what they are) seems pretty superfluous.
Ooh, a nice unmentioned change is that they made it easier to purchase riot points on the shop page. It used to be tucked way back down there, but now there's a large orange button on every page that takes you to the credit card page.
