We could even use humans, if nothing else would work. I mean, they only need millions.
Back in ME1, I would have thought that a problem, given the largest colony had a population a little over 4 million. But by ME2?
Mankind has expanded like nobody's business. Dozens of colonies with populations around six million or so. Could work, if the Reapers would ditch once they're done.
Alternately, you could have the council set up a better managed Ilos. Noah's Ark project, set up a stable population of every intelligent species but the Batarians on some tolerable garden world on the ass-end of space, remove the relays, and hey presto. You don't "win" but you get 50,000 years of scientific knowledge to help the next set of suckers. Heck, if you left Legion with them, you'd have firsthand experience to work with next go round. Should be enough edge.
But we know those are chump solutions. This is a problem that will be solved like all problems are solved.
keep in mind that the harvests take some time, the protheans had to be kept in cryo so long that most of them were cut off to save power
now if the council was in charge of such an operation everyone would be dead within the week, the protheans were much more advanced than us and handled it as well as they possibly could have.

If Cerberus was in charge, everyone would be dead before the papers were drawn up, somehow empowering the Reapers more than any other method, and somehow there would be Thorian creepers everywhere.
I doubt the reapers care to harvest the Thorian. Sovereign was aware of it and it was aware of the reapers, but it is too unique to be useful and is not a threat to them.
It doesn't explicitly state that they built Omega.
True, it doesn't explicitly say it, but it certainly implies it. Here's the context.
He would have made even better time if he wasn't constantly slowing down to study various structural and architectural features of the station. He had seen it all before, of course, but he felt like he was looking at it through fresh eyes; taking every detail and comparing it against some half-remembered blueprint he didn't actually ever remember seeing.
The cycle continues. Each civilization brings change, yet the works of our kind are eternal.
Omega was known for the haphazard, piecemeal way it had been constructed. Most believed that it had been carved from the heart of an ancient asteroid by the Protheans eons ago, but over the centuries any number of species had left their mark on it. Its discordant style gave it an almost random feel. And though it had never bothered him before, for some reason he now found the chaos offensive on a deep philosophical level.
Anyway, the codex isn't reliable, and only shows universal knowledge + things Shepard has learned, and since this occurs in a book that doesn't involve Shepard, it won't be in the codex. It also came out after the game so any revelations wouldn't be included.
But again, that's a separate question from what level of canon the novels have. Personally, I hope it isn't much, because aside from having terrible writing and making Anderson quit the job I gave him, I prefer it if every interesting superstructure isn't a product of the plot monsters.

Of course, you know what the Turians are saying behind humanity's backs?
"How can those humans stand it? Except for having different heads, they look just like Batarians! Same number of fingers, same legs, same torso, same feet....they can even wear the same armor! How disgusting is that?"
"God, it's disgusting. What are the odds that the next Citadel race would be Batarians with fewer eyes and hairier?"
I still think Bioware's having a joke at humanity's expense, heh. And assuming Batarian women follow the same rules, they probably mock the Asari as well.
Just reading through the ME wiki about the romance options for Femshep in ME2, and is it just me or are they really lame compared to the Maleshep options?
Kelly is looking like the best option here.

Why is everyone so hung up on potential love interests? The real issue is y'all should be worrying about is being forced to pay child support to the 50+ women Cerberus gave your semen to.

Commander, we like to think of you as a future investment
I actually have never heard how the Thane romance works out. I'm male Shep all the way, and various little birds have let me know what's up with Jacob and Garrus, but nobody seems to talk about Thane.
He seems to still love his wife, plus he's dying, plus he's like a lizard thing and probably lacks external sex organs so... yeah, can't see the appeal.
the Thane romance is weird because it's not actually that bad, but his passion feels extremely inappropriate after only a few conversations with the Commander. it relies entirely on off-screen interaction.

Til death do you part... so kiss him for a year or two and then get all his phat assassin bounties in the will when he dies.
<non-human love interest passionately jumps you>
<can't figure out where the significant organs are shortly after jumping>
<non-human love interest finally witnesses alien genitalia>
<depending on whether they or :winky:, we get to learn something about them we never knew>
It'd be hilarious if in a love scene we discover that one of the races reproduces wholly on external fertilization.
... at which point we get either or :winky: again.
