I recently made a new Adept Shepard, who despite being named Diego looks visually like Steve Rogers, and has a Colonist/War Hero background. Perhaps it's silly but I mentally picture the only reason why he wasn't captured by the slavers due to his biotic abilities sparking for the first time in one massive omnidirectional Throw that tossed every Batarian near him up up and away. Then he face-plants on the ground unconscious with debris falling and hiding on him until the Alliance rescuers found him. Maybe I thought too much about it though...
Believe me
People have put, wayyyy more thought into ME charcters then this

It does seem to encourage it more than most games.
I always kinda figured my Shep lied about her age to enlist as soon as she got picked up off Mindoir. No family, no friends, and a chance at payback would be a powerful motivating force.
War Hero is fending off the (human) Skyllian pirates funded by batarians, though.
Mass effect wiki says different:
"War Hero: Early in your military career you found yourself facing an overwhelming enemy force. You risked your own life to save your fellow soldiers and defeat the enemy despite the impossible odds. Your bravery and heroism have earned you medals and recognition from the Alliance fleet. The War Hero almost single-handedly repelled an attack by batarian slavers on Elysium."
Man some Skyllian Blitz DLC would have been awesome. And it would end with you vs loads of pirates/slavers.

01/24/2011 - Paper Suggests Mass Relays Predate Protheans
“Historians and astronomers alike are abuzz tonight over a new paper published by Dr. Amanda Kenson of the University of Arcturus. Her team claims that by testing the dust trapped in the gravity wells around a mass relay, and comparing its composition to that of dust clouds in the same system, scientists can create a timeline of when the relay passed through the dust. Her conclusion? "Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years," she writes, "The majority are far older, indicating they were created by a species predating even the Protheans." Dr. Aurana T'Meles of the University of Serrice met the information with skepticism: "While Dr. Kenson's methods appear sound, the asari tried a similar procedure centuries ago and discounted it. What civilization could have spanned the galaxy for not thousands, but millions of years? If this were the case, we should have found mountains of evidence of their passing. Where is this species now?"”
Suck it Turian Counciler. And this is coming from me. I like the Council.
Looks like there were some batarians involved, but it's still mostly miscellaneous pirates funded by batarians. Check the specific entries, not just the summary blurb for Shepard's past:
In 2176, the colony was attacked by a large force of mercenaries and pirates under the command of Elanos Haliat in what would become known as the Skyllian Blitz.
The Skyllian Blitz was a major assault on the human colony of Elysium in 2176. A huge band of pirates, slavers and batarian warlords, partly funded by batarian financiers, launched an attack into the Skyllian Verge, intending to destroy Elysium. The attack was partly a batarian reprisal for humanity's expansion in the Verge, and partly the result of tensions from the Alliance's pirate suppression campaigns. But the decision to finally launch the Blitz was instigated by one man, Elanos Haliat. He intended to use the prestige of the Blitz to cement his position as leader of the Terminus Systems' many pirate bands.

How are batarians funding anything? Do they have a robust slavery-based economy? Sounds like we need to put these "batarian financiers" out of business... permanently.
Re: The TIM comic
I think it's coming out in four parts, and the last one doesn't come out until late April, I think.

Baby, take off your beret. Everyone's a critic and most people are DJs.
So is cryo ammo worth it? I'm playing on hardcore as an infiltrator so everyone has defenses.
for infiltrators, it's great if you're not sure that the target won't die in a single shot, because chances are they'll just freeze solid instead of going "ouch" and carrying on
when they snap freeze, enemies will finish them off
I'm playing ME2 on the PS3. I've played it before on my 360 with no DLC but I don't remember if I made it to level 30 or not. Now that I have all this extra DLC in the PS3 version, is it very likely that I will hit 30 in my first play-through? Assuming I hit all the story missions + DLC?

I'm thinking it should be doable. Definitely doable if you also do the N7 missions.
I hit level 30 on my first (import) playthrough well before the end, and that one I was only starting at level 3.

It's definitely do-able if you like to explore and do everything ya can.
so does this mean we get to bang garrus's sister in ME3
At the start of ME3 Sheppard is betrayed by Garrus.
Sheppard goes to Garrus' house to exact revenge, but instead finds Garuss' mom and sister naked in the pool.
but i'll be buying it just so miranda can get out of the goddamn catsuit

I just picked up Mass Effect 2 for PS3, downloaded the free content, and installed it. I keep my PS3 offline though most of the time because for some reason it slows down loading times by a ridiculous amount and makes cutscenes stutter like crazy for it to be connected to the network. The question is, do I have to be connected to the network for the DLC to work?

But it's not shredder ammo, so there's that.

Curious now. They go for shorter/more slender, fancier headcrests, or both?
