gentoo nerd blog

okay, this is something of a longshot, but I figure this community has its share of geeks, so

a while back — I'm thinking 2004–05 — there was a blog written by some absurd gentoo fanatic. I remember it was followed by a fair few people, and there were quite a few regular commenters who were mostly arguing about whether the blog was genuine or a huge troll. (spoiler: it was a huge troll.) the blogger himself was your typical cliche linux nerd — who, because he used gentoo, was far superior to every other linux nerd. he talked a lot about his gPod — some iPod knockoff he'd created which was basically a very small computer he wore like a fanny-pack — and he once openly scoffed at two college girls he'd overheard talking about how OS X was "based on Unix". (this was pre-Leopard, so OS X wasn't actually Unix-certified yet. it's one of the ways I can pinpoint the general age of the blog. yes, I'm aware this makes me a nerd.)

eventually the blog concluded with a very badly written poem, which a lot of the commenters didn't realise was an acrostic (something like "THIS BLOG IS FAKE"), so the guy came back to post a follow-up saying the whole thing was an elaborate prank. and then, of course, everyone said they'd just been playing along this whole time.

anyway! you've probably guessed that I wouldn't mind finding this site again, but google isn't turning up anything. combinations of "gentoo", "nerd", "blog", "gpod" etc aren't giving me much love. (not even GIS with safe-search off is giving me much love.) does anyone here even remember this site?

help me h/a you are my only hope

ps. I'm not entirely sure why I want to find this site again. maybe to convince myself I didn't dream the whole thing up.

That sounds like it could be Jacob's Chatter, maybe.

    Edit: Excerpt from March 2004:

"I took my trusty 600E and loaded my entire Ogg collection on to it then installed Blackbox and XMMS 1.2.10. I designed a very stylish logo in The Gimp that shouted "Linux Power" and taped it the top of the Thinkpad. I will be having the logo silk-screened once I can finalize the design. I strapped the resulting device on to my waist with an old belt. At first glance it was clear that it not really stylish enough to be an iPod killer. I wanted it to shout, "lookout crApple lemming!" Scrounging through my mountain of wires found a stylish purple cable which was perfect for the task.

I dub it the "gPod" -- The "g" is of course for Gentoo. While a tad larger than the iPod, the point was not form factor."

Sir, we live in a world where your skills at internet necromancy will be forever undervalued. Let my sincere thanks be a brief recognition of your worth. For this day, you are a King amongst men.

Now go out and meet some girls, jesus.

I'd like to say that I exerted a great deal of effort and performed the most dark and perverse of rituals to find this one but then I'd be lying.

    It's a gift, what can I say. :)
