One of the saddest things Epic ever did was move from the awesome interface in UT99 to the unwieldy... thing they used in UT2004.
UT3's was just a mess of nested menus.

The best part of UT3's menu was when Epic promised they would revamp them in the big Titan patch. But when the Black edition finally dropped, all I could tell that was changed was that the menus were now... black.
How did you feel for example, about the Harbour level in Crysis? Because that was largely free-roaming and open. You were given objectives dotted around a map full of tools and options, and how you approached it was up to you.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. That level was cool. I don't think it ever really occured to me how open it is.
I'm replaying Crysis 1 and it's all good times, Batman and murder, but some of these gun mechanics are God damned bullshit.
I hear a lot about silencers making weapons useless, and I'm too stealth-focused to bother testing, but it feels like my FY71 is throwing spitwhads at these generic Korean soldiers. Also, plants. What. The. Hell. Plants eat bullets. If your enemy is behind a bush then he's impervious to your weapons. Best hope your laser pointer doesn't land on a leaf.
I really hope Crysis 2 unpoops the sniping/silencers, because it can really mess with stealth funtimes. Also, I did this:
This is why I love Crysis. It lets me shape the very Earth. With corpses. I approached the Excavation Site from the side, noticed this nest, set my FY71 to single-shot, put on a sniper scope and took down the gunner. Then he got back up. Then he got up again. And again. I could see the gunner falling over, tripping and flopping around. I just didn't understand why this gunner kept getting up until I got up there myself.
Also, I suck at sniping. I'm always inches off from my target's head. Just inches. Drives me insane.
Yeah, you either use the silencer to pop headshots from up close, or take the silencer off and shoot from long range, and speed out of there before they go to investigate
I always keep the silencer on and just pop heads at all distances. For the times when I have a close encounter, that's when the shotgun comes out to save the day.
Basically a game that's pretty much a tunnel. Almost every FPS is linear to some extent, you're still going from point A to point B, but they typically allow enough space to play around with possibilities in their action bubbles. A corridor shooter barely even allows for that.
CoD series is pretty much the iconic corridor shooter.
Crysis 1 was largely the antithesis of corridor shooting because of how free-roaming it was and usually allowed you to choose your own approach to locations and situations. The gameplay in such games tends to be less scripted and more non-linear as well, there's more scope for unexpectedly cool things to happen at the player's impetus.
How did you feel for example, about the Harbour level in Crysis? Because that was largely free-roaming and open. You were given objectives dotted around a map full of tools and options, and how you approached it was up to you.
One review that I read said that 'Crysis is still a corridor shooter, you still start at a and finish at b, it's just that the corridors are a kilometre wide.' But yeah, it definately worked when it was trying to be more freeform.

I played Crysis Warhead after snagging it for $10 this weekend. I have to say. I liked it a lot more than Crysis 1. Psycho was definitely a character that was interesting compared to say Nomad. The in game cinematics used to progress the story was also cool and the ending felt like an ending. I'll definitely be going through it again.
Edit: Did they name the PAX Gun after this forum's big get together event?
Thats even odder cause I can swear I heard the VO in one of game clips recently. I'm pretty sure its the same dude who voices Sarge in Bad Company too.
Ha! all of these improvements only to do a corridor shooter. Great.
Not quite, from what I've been told the areas are pretty massive, you just have a greater sense of where boundaries apply, whereas in Crysis 1 it often gave the illusion you could go further.
The engine improvements also extended to 3000km x 3000km sized maps, as opposed to 3 square kms.
Also, fan's biggest complaints according to Crytek were too much travelling between action pieces and that "Bawww Crytek can only do jungles, baww we want cities/urban levels"
*Crytek make city levels*
Fans - "B...b... baaaawwwww! We don't want cities we want jungles! Bawww we don't know what we want!"

No seriously, I've heard routine complaints about Crysis being "yet another jungle shooter," you know because we're up to our asses with these types of games. It seems to be a minor pastime from chumps to assert every facet of the game as something utterly generic.
Thing is, Crysis 2 looks to deserve that sentiment even more than its predecessor. Worn urban landscape, much smaller and more linear spaces, a multiplayer that tries its damndest to ape CoD (with nanosuits!). It's like, ugh, the more I see it, and some shit from the leak, the less I care about it.

Those are good (solid) arguments there, but I'm waiting to actually playing the singleplayer until I judge it. The multiplayer though? Not gonna lie, I won't even try it out. I'm sick of the Call of Duty-esque multiplayer. The setting, the weapons, killstreaks, the pace, the movement, the controls, the small maps, the scoring system - I can't see it anymore. Though I didn't like it to begin with (How can you play a game in which you can be killed in various ways without hearing or seeing your enemy be fair, let alone fun?). So anyways, looking at the perks you can unlock, well, there's more Call of Duty. Faster reloading, less weapon spread etc. There are some new ones (tracer bullets, highlighted enemies) but they probably won't change much. The only positive thing seems to be the perk which let's you see the last few footsteps of your enemy - could certainly aid in fighting campers and snipers.
is true they also eliminated the nanosuit modes in Crysis 2?
Not at all. Basically, you now can only choose between:
- Weapon mode, which is the only mode that doesn't constantly drain energy, but also doesn't offer any advantages
- Cloak, which is the same as in Crysis but can be upgraded
- Armor mode, which afaik has been improved; It now constantly drains energy and makes you slower, but from what I've seen it actually does soak up bullets for a reasonable amount of time and thus isn't entirely worthless anymore
There's now more speed or power mode. Everytime you sprint, charge your jumps, pick up something heavy or kick large objects energy will be drained.
Also, the upgrades I mentioned aren't exclusive to cloak; you can buy them for Armor, Cloak, Power and Vision. I know all the upgrades but don't want to spoil anything.

So, let me set this straight; the new modes are:
- Weapon mode: No energy drain, no powers
- Cloak mode: the same as Crysis
- Armor mode: constant energy draining and low speed but absorb damage
- Power mode: speed+strength; you run very fast and punch very hard
- Vision mode: Arkham Asylum detective mode?
-You can buy upgrades for every mode, like the bioshock upgrades

Kind of; you can't select Power mode, it just activates everytime you jump, sprint, punch etc.
I heard that that's only possible while in armor mode, but I don't have confirmation on it. Other then that, yeah, that's it.
In a nutshell: You start out with the same abilities as in Crysis , but get more powerful as you upgrade your suit. The only worse thing seems to be the sprinting speed, which doesn't hold up to Crysis afaik.

Personally I like the sound of less suit modes. You can still do all the same things, it just means you don't have to constantly flick between settings.

So I just finished Crysis. Had a lot of fun, even the trippy bit in the mountain. One question, though (ending):
Erm, are we going to get any closure on what happened to Nomad and Helena? I was all jazzed up about returning to the island and then the credits rolled.
All the story trailers for Crysis 2 mention Prophet and nothing else, which worries me.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got a sidequel expansion like Warhead, which either tells Nomad's part in the invasion or covers the gap for both Nomad and Prophet between 1 and 2.
Which would be pretty neat, actually. Get a fresh new character and story in 2, then get a refresher and an explanation in the expansion. I'd still like to know what became of Psycho, since I don't remember him getting killed at any point.
Psycho was on the gunship at the end of Crysis 1, that was going to take you (Nomad) and Prophet back to the Island with your upgraded suits. Warhead explicitly tells Psycho's story on the Island and shows him getting his badass new gun.
Crysis 2 being in NYC won't make much sense if it follows Nomad, although we might be getting something similar to the FEAR series of FEAR 1 being the point man, FEAR 2 being another character setting the stage and FEAR 3 being the finale with the main character again.

Sorry to dust your hopes, but if you watch the latest Prophet trailer it says he
was the only one in his squad to make it off Lingshan island. Alcatraz is the new protagonist, but it's kind of weird, in the trailer you see brief shots of Alcatraz in US Rangers gear, but somehow he is in the suit as well. I wonder if he goes into a lab with a chatty scientist, a goofy guard and a stubborn bitch to get the suit. Or he somehow acquires it another way. Beats me.

I was confused too and someone explained it.
Apparently Prophet thinks that he doesn't have long left to live, so he puts Alcatraz in his suit and kills himself.
