I have been on Awakening for quite a while, it isn't long...just seems so boring. That is what I get for picking a rogue and not my character from DA2. I didn't want to play a zombie though.
That doesn't really look too different from what they've been showing for months...
I disagree completely. Before the Anders video, they showed one brief combat scenario, and a bunch of non-contextual cutscenes in trailer form.
This is actual, factual video coverage of the game being played and footage of how the systems work in practice. And there's more coming, too.
You must have not been following DA2 very closely then. The only difference between this video and the old combat one (released early December) is that you get to see more; the stuff in the dark cave. The guy doing the voice-over is just repeating things that have been said numerous times by numerous other people.
The gameplay is identical between the videos. The new video even has some of the really old gameplay from the prologue that everyone was shitting themselves about, decrying DA2 as the worst game evar!
Anyway, it's not like it matters, at least we all realise how awesome the game's going to be now!
Awakening has an excellent plot, actually. The Darkspawn are actual characters instead of just being nameless mooks. You also get a lot of unusual gameplay, from managing (and upgrading!) your fortress to a jailbreak sequence that's somewhat superior to the anemic one you get before the Landsmeet in DA:O.
It's not perfect, and the gameplay is a bit too easy except on the very hardest difficulty levels (the new specializations and talents are exceedingly broken in some respects, the Battle Mage especially), but I'd say it's worth playing if you liked DA:O.
I didn't have any trouble with importing my Awakening save to Witch Hunt, by the way. It remembered that my character had an affair with Morrigan but didn't do the ritual with her.

Er, yes, we get to see (a lot) more. That was sort of my point. There's been a dearth of any official footage beyond that one combat video. I'm not sure why you would call it identical, since it isn't.
They're doing the stupid preorder DLC thing with this one again, aren't they? Where they scatter like 20 different items across a bunch of different places and it's impossible to get them all?
If they do like ME2 and eventually release those things as (paid) DLC, then that's fine.
If they do it like the first DA and you can't ever have those items because you missed the time window (and/or couldn't buy seventeen copies of the game from different locations) then fuck that.
Also, that Facebook game better not be the sole way of gaining any items.

So the fuck what? I mean...really? I can't even understand where you are coming from. It is a single fucking item in the game, are you worried that you can't beat the game without? I am just so confused, I don't understand why you would be so upset about items...in a video game. I prefer not to have these items, it makes the game more challenging and then rewarding when you do get a better item.
I just hope the PC controls are like the console ones (I know) in that you don't just issue a command to your guy and then shuffle up to the enemy. Combat looks where more fun this time, I mean in Awakening playing a rogue is almost punishment (good thing you can switch though, the AI can almost figure out how to rogue) I have almost 8 debuffs, 2 stuns, a couple stances/modes, two steroids and then some other bullshit I haven't bothered to figure out.

It is the same as the first game. Though there might be an option to toggle "action controls". And if not, you'll probably be able to just plug in a 360 controller.

PC doesn't have click-to-attack, for a couple of reasons, but abilities are generally usable often enough that you probably won't miss it. Rogues (and I can speak from experience, as I did a full playthrough with my dual-wielding Female rogue), are a lot of fun to play on the PC.

I mean I don't want this to be like diablo, I just want to be able to press an action and it happens like in WoW or any other MMO, not like in DA:O where...well the rogue was very difficult to use.
About to start the first game. Does anyone have any recommendations on which race/class has the best starting sequence in terms of story/coolness? Or at least which ones *not* to pick? Thanks!
The mage start I found to be interesting, gives you a lot of insight to the tower and the conflict between mages and templar. The human story was interesting, gives a little background on events later in the game. Dwarf story was fun, same as human really. Daelish elf was pretty bad.

Opinions differ, of course, but concerning Origins...
Human Noble and Dalish Elf are probably best avoided.
Mage is... somewhat controversial. Some despise it, others really like it. Of course, if you want to play a Mage, you won't have much choice. I'd go with an elven mage, personally, to add that extra touch of racism to an already despised group of people.
City Elf, Dwarf Commoner and Dwarf Noble are generally considered the most awesome (with female City Elf being considered better than male City Elf).

My favorite origins were the City Elf and Human Noble. The City Elf origin was just completely excellent, and gives you a really good view of the racial divide between humans and elves. The Human Noble felt to me to be the one with the closest ties to the overall plot of the game.
For classes, I like Rogue for the City Elf and Warrior for the Human Noble. I really felt like those choices fit the setup of the game perfectly.
Mage would be your best choice if you want to be the most powerful character in the game. Mages are seriously overpowered. If you go Mage, I would recommend Elf over Human, as elves start with a +2 to both Magic and Willpower, which are the primary Mage stats.

Pretty much my opinion, too. And as a Human Noble, you also have more options toward the end of the game in regards to the politics of Ferelden.

Also, if you do make a mage, don't bother boosting anything but Magic (and Cunning to get all four ranks of Persuade. But I think if you're an elf you don't even need to put anything in that thanks to the Cunning Shrines in the Fade)

I've done male Human Mage, Female Dwarf Noble, and Female City Elf so far, and I think my favorite was Female City Elf, followed by Female Dwarf Noble. The Mage one is just a touch too railroady, but it does have the added benefit of giving you insight into some of the events in Witch Hunt.
City Elf, as a female, is actually pretty traumatic, but then provides immediate catharsis. Really tells you how terribad the city elves have it in the alienage.

Especially the unused characters. For Sten it's always been "Okay, he's not naked and he's got a greatsword... good enough."

So, should I play Awakenings? Is it LONG like DAO? Or can I get through it in a weekend?

We've seen a lot of mage and rogue stuff...but barely any warrior stuff.
Awesome.
I mean, this was just a rather basic vid showing off the three classes. Why couldn't one of them have been presented by a female Hawke, eh?
I am not pleased.

I think they've said there's gonna be loot in this game.
Quick Look: They really did a good job with that new art style. Makes the game look pretty.
