Or has he already, is that why the sword is so huge?

So in a game with Elves, Magic, and DRAGONS, you expect realistic weapons....O_o...

While I'm joking on the degree to which this is an issue...yes? The fantasy genre is not a license to go "roflmao it's fantasy we can do whatever we want whenever we want".

Suspension of disbelief is still a thing, internal consistency is still a thing. Dragon Age tends towards the low fantasy side of the spectrum and as such when Hawke has a sword that makes him look like an anime yeah it sticks out a little. That looks like fucking Guts' sword from Berserk.

The weapon Hawke is carrying is significantly larger than that. Hawke's sword is taller than he is.

I don't think the weapons are that ridiculously sized, but why are we even arguing about realism in a game franchise where every person and beast is filled with high pressure strawberry jam?

Edit: Also, two-handed swords were pretty giant in the first game too.

The edit is very true. Maybe it's just because the graphics aren't quite so mediocre this time it's more jarring to me.

Edit: Good god. I turned off the XTREME GORE first thing when I started Origins so I've never seen that.

Swords in DA2 are, generally, built with the same constraints as swords in DA:O.

Though if you go to the official forums you will be told differently and that clearly DA2 is cranking all swords up by at least 150%.

    Buster Sword DLC?

Any news on how much variety we'll be seeing on finishing animations? 3 per weapon type? More? It seemed in DAO that dual-weapon had way more than 2H or sword 'n' board.

With the mods I was using, I have seen at least a 200% decrease in breast size in Dragon Age 2. This is quite disappointing for me. I was really hoping for better from BioWare, but what can you expect from them but more betrayal?

Conversely, they all shared Ogre killing animations which was hilarious if they were dual wielding full sized weapons. Do we have unique animations for killing large bosses with different weapon types now?

Dual axes always looked ridiculous for ogre kills. Then I played a 2H warrior and found mails were even worse.

But seriously, while they are waaaay better than the earlier pre-release shots, they really don't look better than DAO. Especially the character textures (the background textures are about on par though)

Do people really care that much about graphics? I played Origins on my laptop on medium-lowish settings so maybe I'm not the best judge, but I really like the direction 2 has taken. I think, most importantly, it looks distinctive and the shots of Kirkewall make me want to explore the place.

Exactly. I'm kinda hoping that you have access to all of the specializations earlier on than in DA:O, cause it kinda sucked needing to do some story plot to get the spec.

Well we know your companions have their own unique specializations, and I believe you can learn from them, and there are three 'generic' specializations per class that appear from the live playthrough to be available without a quest or it at least takes place before you even assemble your entire party.

I'm pretty sure you can't learn their unique specs.

It wouldn't really make sense for Hawke to be a Dalish Pariah, for example. It's more likely the Companion's specs are personalized versions of Hawke's specs. So Anders has a unique take on Spirit Healer, Isabela is a unique Duelist (or Assassin I guess), etc.

But time will tell I guess.
