It's always interesting when people always argue that artistic capability makes graphical capacity unnecessary. I don't even necessarily disagree that artistic capability is unimportant, for example, noveria (and more importantly the citadel) make ME1 much more memorable than the winding corridor cities in ME2.
And while the artistic direction does look marginally better, I'm not seeing the night and day difference every one else is apparently seeing
The Citadel was white bridges over a river, a bar, and elevator after elevator.
Both were bland, and people hate both. Or did you miss all the complaints about how shitty the Citadel is? And Noveria is only interesting when you hit Peak 15. And for fucks sake, the hotel and Lorik Quinn's buildings are the exact same enviroment.

You know the building in Illium where you recruit Thane? Or when you go to the plague-infested depths of Omega to recruit Mordin? Both of those sets had fantastic art direction that eclipsed almost everything from Mass Effect 1 (Excepting a few of the Mako levels that were actually designed).
The Normandy Crash Site, the End Run, and pretty much the entierty of LoSB were better made then nearly all of ME1, save the last level on the Citadel Tower. That was clever, a pity that mechanic didn't get reused.
I remember thane's, because it had nice sniping spots, and was one of the few levels which weren't in super tight quarter corridors of cover. But the only thing about mordin's recruitment that I can remember was that you could kill a wounded batarian.
The DLC was better about it though. Especially LotSB, which took a page out of the best part of ME1.
By the end run, do you mean the nondescript organic corridors and litterally copy-pasted floating platforms?

I find myself vexed. On one hand I desire to play through DAO on my PS3 to have a handy dandy save file ready to go. On the other...the options presented in the big 3 seem reasonable enough, and I really can be arsed to go through that slog again. I might play Awakenings just to get Ander's backstory. (Missed that when I transitioned from 360 to PS3). But that's it.

Christ, the demo sequence looks way better than the footage of what they were showing off a couple months ago.
In the future, I will have more faith in vsove (maybe).
No Spoit, I meant the general game design and ingenuity behind the End Run, and the lead up to the HOLYFUCKBALLSWHATTHESHITOHGAWDTAKEKAGENOTME final boss.
I'm thinking about completing a Human Noble run where I marry Alistair and do whatever the worst thing you can do to Anora is. I just finished up my 'canon' run and I forgot just how much I hate Anora. Dunno if that would be overkill and burn me out on the whole Dragon Age thing though, 40 hour investment makes me ehh because I just know I'll make myself do a bunch of sidequests and crap...
Anyone have a human Male Mage save from Awakenings that picked the ridiculously 'good guy' options and was beloved by all their party members?
Pretty excited for the rogue character in DA2. My first was a human noble rogue and his damage was ok at best. When I replayed as a mage I was consistently doing 60% of my party damage...which is kind of crazy. Really hoping they make all of the classes equally badass with the right spec

I'm sure there'll be a DASaves site closer to release, if there isn't already
You know in theory I find the whole transfered saves thing interesting, but it's growing tedious in hindsight. Mass Effect 2's comic book upgrade for the PS3 was...nice. Very refreshing.
I actually really liked Virmire and Ilos in Mass Effect 1. There were a lot of spots where Mass Effect 2 was really strong though, with spots like SB's ship and some of the side missions (Zaeed's quest in particular) offering some good eye candy. I can't say the same thing about Mordin's mission, which I thought was pretty boring in terms of the art style (just lots of red due to the lighting).
I don't remember much from Dragon Age: Origins though. I thought most of it was generic fantasy caves/castles/fields/cities.
Oh, and the sword and shield animations? I love them. When Hawke finishes his/her attack combo and twirls the sword around? That tempted me to play a warrior. It looked very cool. But I want to try something new, as I've never played a mage before in a game, and I want to keep Carver around.

Hmm, one thing I think is really interesting is that the inquisitor isn't all that antagonistic towards Varric after the admittedly harsh opening. She looks and sounds pretty damn desperate, I wonder how bad the Chantry's been fucked up.
I'm pretty sure the blood was a deliberate choice on the part of the developers. Considering how they've talked about it before. And I still think it's less silly than FO3's enemies exploding into gibs everywhere when they die
Just watched the demo footage. There's a fair bit of exploding and gibbing going on there, and I love it. To me at least, the combat looks like a welcome change. I just spent the last month playing through Origins, Awakenings, Golems, and Witch Hunt to get my transfer file ready. The nicest things I can say about the 2 DLC chapters are "at least they're short."
Why can no one ever actually look at the title long enough to realize that isn't called Awakenings? It's just Awakening. There's a singular awakening, not multiple awakenings.

There were Awakenings....of a different kind.

I thought it looked pretty good, too, and that wasn't even with the high resolution textures or DX11 features that we'll get with the full game.
It's not just lighting and textures that I'm talking about. There's subtleties to the animation, effects, camera and such that weren't there before. A whole lot of little stuff all over the place that gives the presentation weight that I noticed a lack of in the earlier leaked footage and half-expected to not see changed too much.
So, like, good on whoever was responsible for that stuff.
I probably paid as much attention to the title as I did most of the dialog. Say what you will about DA, at least the skip dialog button isn't also mapped to select dialog.

...The dialog was one of the best parts about DA though...
Pretty hit and miss in my opinion. It was much better when it wasn't taking itself seriously. But then again that's probably true for about 99% of every video game made ever.

Origins was alright about it (to an extent noninclusive of some of the random pop culture references), but I didn't particularly like Awakening when it wasn't taking itself seriously because it didn't take itself seriously in the wrong way. And it did that constantly.
But my favorite games of last year included Bayonetta and Vanquish, so what do I know.
The final confrontation with Howe in Origins made me go from not caring about my human noble's parents to becoming an instrument of righteous vengeance.

Howe is a dick.
If you didn't already know that...the game makes sure to remind you at every mention of the man.
Oh, I knew Howe was a dick, but the man can really rub it in.
"Your parents died on their knees. Your brother's corpse rots in Ostagar; and his brat was burned on a scrap heap, along with his Antivan whore of a wife. And what's left? A fool husk of a son likely to end his days under a rock in the Deep Roads. Even the Wardens are gone. You are the last of nothing. This is pointless... You've lost."
"Isn't that precious? Is this where I lament the monster I helped create? Let me show you how it's done: I made your mother kiss my feet before she died, it was the last thing your father saw. Meet my sword, and change that."

They did, the guy confirmed that there are no higher settings in the demo.
The demo does indeed not have high res textures, nor DX11 functionality, but both will be available with the main game.
The high res textures are a download, not on the disc.

I always find it interesting when people confuse graphical capability with the artistic capability.
It doesn't matter how big them textures are if they don't look good. And DA:O did not look good.
Dragon Age 2 looks great.

1) Dragon Age 2 takes place on Mars
2) They didn't quite get the incredible VA funding the Mass Effect team got
3) Oh who the fuck cares, that looks real goddamn fun
