Dual analog is pretty much only helpful for one genre... shooters.
Why gimp a handheld for a single genre that's not guaranteed to be relevant 5 years from now? A genre that is barely relevant on handhelds already? Then you're stuck putting dual sticks on on future versions if you want backwards compatibility.

It's funny because you almost never get lefty controls for anything else, or if it's offered I don't need it because that's just how you play video games.
But having to control a stylus with pen-like movements is what kinda kills it.
Then again, I've read several reports from lefties playing Kid Icarus who said they were perfectly fine with it after like 15 minutes of play. Even going so far as to praise the controls, despite controls like that usually being derided on the DS. So who knows. I probably couldn't play Elite Beat Agents with my right hand but just dragging a targeting reticle around could possibly be easy or even comfortable.

Monster Hunter man!
Thank you. Main reason I never got into that series was the camera controls. The most common activity I found in Freedom 2 was centering the camera on a dude so I could actually hit it. God, it's terrible.
I would love to see Nintendo comment on the lack of a second stick, at some point. I can't believe that "clutter" or "it only helps specific genres" are enough to justify it.
You should play Tri
I think it's a very reasonable justification from an engineering and marketing strategy point of view.
About lefties, something that bothers me... why do I see I lefties complaining so much about the Wii? It seems like it's the perfect console for that, you just need to switch the controllers! Is because of stuff such as "the character is holding the sword on his right hand"? Because honestly I don't understand it.

You'd be surprised how odd and uncomfortable it is - using your right thumb to control movement feels really weird.
Do you really see lefties complaining a lot about it? Chipman above is the first one I've ever seen.
Oh no, I have no issue with the Wii controls for lefties, it feels perfectly accurate. I simply swapped over the remotes once to see if it DID make any difference.
EDIT: To clarify, I'm saying it's "odd and uncomfortable" to swap over the remotes in order to put the pointer in the "more accurate" hand, as opposed to it being "odd and uncomfortable" to put the pointer in the right hand.

Actually I was pretty irritated with the change to Link with Twilight Princess. Not in terms of any function, I just liked the idea that Link was always left handed.

Are you sure it's not just the thought from 5 years ago that Zelda would feel weird with the sword in the wrong hand, which has never been correct?
No, I've seen and heard many many people complain (some friends even). I assume they're just complaining because that's what humans do and haven't given it a shot, but I've seen it nonetheless.

Question: do we know if the shop will have dsiware stuff? Man, I hope so, I don't have a DSi and want to play some stuff from there.
Not for certain. It's extremely likely though. If a bunch of DSiware is transferable as they have confirmed, they'd be really dumb not to let you just buy it on the 3DS too.
It might not all be available at launch and a number of games might be missing. Agreements change, licensing expires. Maybe some devs signed for DSiware exclusivity and 3DSware counts as a different service, so they'd have to re-sign, and some devs couldn't be contacted...who knows.
I'm hoping that the guerilla marketing he's done in a few places is indicative of a high quality turn based strategy game that he really believes in, rather than an attempt to drum up sales in a B-Grade release.

That's what I was thinking too, but Nintendo does some weird stuff sometimes.
While speaking with Reggie Fils-Aime, the President and COO of Nintendo of America, I asked him why those big, franchise games hadn't made it into the launch line-up for the 3DS.
"Between 'Nintendogs + Cats' and 'Pilotwings,' those two franchises, either on the original DS or on other legacy systems like the NES or Super NES, have sold tens of millions of copies. Those two franchises have a lot of strength all by themselves. 'Steel Diver' is a brand new experience, and from a compelling standpoint, we think it's awfully compelling."
But what of Nintendo's triple-A franchises? "Mario, Zelda, all of those titles are coming," said Fils-Aime. "From our perspective, we like to launch titles when they're ready. And so they'll be ready, they'll be ready soon. Just not in that initial time period of late March to early June." He went on to say that those games will launch "after E3."
Oh well.
I don't think it's a big deal, a lot of people are probably going to buy it after E3 anyway when we see more titles in development.
GiantBomb were making the point that Nintendo hasn't brought their A-Game to handheld releases on launch since the Game Boy. Not sure as to the truth of that statement, but it's interesting.

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
You're right, I didn't realize it while I was watching it, but it does remind me a lot of Sonic and the Secret Rings. Being able to point and target though would help, there were times I just got so frustrated with the auto-aim or lack thereof.
There is no excuse for lack of lefty support. None at all. The ABXY buttons work just fine as a makeshift D-pad. Developers who ignore a substantial number of players like that will feel my wrath.

That's just a matter of getting used to it though.

I don't understand what this is in reference to. Kid Icarus is clearly for Fans of that series and to capitolize on Pit being in Brawl.

Well you can transfer DSiWare from a DSi to a 3DS so I imagine you'd be able to access the store. It would be odd to not have it if you ask me.

That's all Nintendo ( potentially all Video game) Voice Acting for the last decade or so. Star Fox 64 seems to have been the sole anomaly
Nothing new in the article really, but Mr. Gallop drops in to comment, and drops a few details that were newish to me.
