The world does not want me to have a 3DS.
I save up money for it, and my car goes on the fritz. But I'm lucky! Turns out it's not as bad as I thought and I didn't have to put very much money into at all! Success!
Now I blow out a tire, putting me out more 3DS money.
I'm worried next week something might just randomly explode.
I had a weird friend in high school who posed a question to numerous people that he formed around some really bizzare and circumstantial reasoning. The question that he posed asked if you would let some guy rip out one of your eyes and skullfuck you for one million dollars. Anyone reasonable would say "fuck no" but this was in opposition to the way he would answer and his reasoning for allowing it. He argued that if you let him do this it would be indeed be a horrible experience, but you could always get a cybernetic eye later and that you could do a lot with one million dollars! Some were actually won over to his side by this reasoning but I remained in staunch opposition because . . . well, I would really prefer to remain unskullfucked.
Just thought I would enrich this thread with that story as I was reminded of it just now. So yeah, you could totally sell off an eye for a 3DS, and then just have a cybernetic one put in later!

I've heard that the 3DS is the region-locked in the same way as the DSi, but I never really cared about the DSi so I'm not sure exactly what that entails. I'm in Australia, and I buy most of my games from England; that works for everything. Would it also work for the 3DS? Or is region-locking going to be more strict on it than on, say, the Wii and 360?
I've always thought that video was Randal and Dante at their best! That along with the deleted scene from Clerks 2 about Dante accidentally impregnating his own mom because he jerked off in the womens restroom in Mooby's. Both are really weird and fucked up non sequitors that would be nigh impossible to work into a full length movie without being incredibly jarring or completely destroying any sense of pacing, but damn they are funny!

No, it wouldn't. If you want games from England, you should import a 3DS from England.

I think previous precedent is for Aus to come under the same region lock as EU, but until someone has a system in their hands no-one will know what is happening this time.

There's no way that the Australian 3DS is going to have a different region to the UK. That'd just be insane.

I'm more or less certain that region-locking is going to follow the standard market patterns - UK, Mainland Europe and Australasia should all have the same region. On the other hand, this was originally because we shared the same TV format - now that it's totally fucking arbitrary and used to control pricing alone, we won't know 100% until release. Since Aus has such a huge markup on games, I can certainly see the attraction of cordoning it off from the other markets.
I was able to avoid mucking around with external software on my DS - importing was both expensive and a pain, but just about doable. But the instant something desirable comes out on 3DS and not in Europe, I'll be using any skeevy methods available to circumvent the lock - and I'll wager that won't be too long. Does it matter that we're the second-biggest games market in the world? Of course not! Have some 6-month delays whilst we sort out mediocre translations for 6 other European languages. My one hope for 3DS is that Nintendo's been rather better at getting the quirky stuff for Europe than it has for the US recently.

I thought Australia was traditionally R4 while Europe is R2?

We're a different video region, but the same game region.

Nope, we've always been a PAL region, being Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

They both fall under PAL, which is the important thing.

So moving on then, I'm curious about why the top flap is always black around the screen, based on the Aqua Blue and the red variation I've seen floating around. Is this purely cosmetic or does anyone know if it helps with focusing on the 3D effect?

Supposedly having black around the 3D screen is better than having color around the 3D screen.
One thing that I really like that they did with the black model of the 3DS too, even though in the grand scheme of things is pretty minor, is working in technology to reduce fingerprints.
I recall it being from an Iwata Asks, a certain kind of finish or material that reduces this.
The region locking is still one giant question mark (block). Allegedly it functions the same way as the DSi, but there are also reports from GAF that an Australian PAL version of Pokemon Black/White works in a Japanese 3DS, so it's possible it's going to be a case-by-case basis per game.
Turns out that Mii StreetPass puzzle thing is cooler than I had assumed; when you pass enough Miis to get all the puzzle pieces and put it together, it assembles a fully 3D diorama that you can rotate around. One that a dude has gotten is Pikmin. No idea how many there are.

You can have a video conference with up to four people locally.
Local videoconferencing?
Isn't that missing a whole lot of point?
What if it's a super crowded noisy room and there's no place to sit near your friend?
What if you're in two different classrooms right next to each other and you want to show your friend the test questions early? With live video, just for the hell of it?
How do game saves work on 3DS games? I've heard conflicting reports that it saves to the SD card, while others claim it still saves to the cart itself.

Everything I've read said they save to the SD card. You sure you aren't thinking of NGP?

There were a couple of people over at GameFAQs claiming the games still save on the carts. Guess they were either misinformed or just trolling.

It's going to be an eye.
Just one though.

Or, you know, skullfucking didn't penetrate into the brain.

Daaaaaaaaamn.
So it's locked per country or something then?

Heh, I approve!
And that coating works suprisingly well in that video. I'm impressed.
Makes me wonder if they're like the 3D stills shown in [VIDURL="
I thought all DS games were region free?
You can have a video conference with up to four people locally.
BTW, de Blob 2 is region locked. My guess is that it does depend on the rating of the game. Pokémon is E, while De Blob 2 is E10+.

I think it's up to 2 online, but I could be wrong.

Note that DSi-enhanced games still play on foreign DSs, just not on DSi or 3DS.
