I understand this is your opinion, but honestly, this part is just plain wrong. The animations in the game are one of the best things it has going for it. I really haven't seen such smooth animations in an MMO pretty much ever. Casting animations are great, running animations are great, enemy animations are pretty good as well. What animations are you seeing that are bad?
I dunno, I kinda beg to differ on this one as well. Some animations are great, I've LOL'ed many times already at over the top (and I mean that in a good way) death animations. BUT some animations are very, well, not great. For example, the dwarf auto attack animations are pretty dang bad. The look a bit off, clumsy, and boring. Same with some run animations I've seen.
Overall I'd say animations are good, but I wouldn't say great.
My biggest complaint is the overall vibe of the graphics and creatures. It's all so freaking generic, plus I haven't had a WOW moment yet. By that I mean, the first time I walked into Ironforge, when an avalanche crushed an Orc in WAR, or in AoC when I entered the most visually awesome instance in any MMO I've ever played (it was a tropical shore, with a huge thunderstorm looming in the background).
The only thing I love visually (beside some cool death animations) is the rifts themselves.
Plus the music... the score is equally generic. Although, this is pretty much the norm for MMO's.
Every MMO has it's weak points. They're just so epic in scope that it can't be avoided. Despite it's flaws I know this is pre-order worthy! Probably the first MMO since WoW I could get hooked on...

Man, some of the female armor sets just revel in the "ancient order of warrior strippers" fantasy trope. My Defiant Warrior is now tarting around in a get up that can only be described as "pirate hooker".
I've been having the most fun soloing as a Paragon/Champion/Reaver Warrior and as a selfish-as-fuck Inquisitor/Justicar/Shaman Cleric. Can't get into any of the Rogue or Mage variations I've tried, and Rogue especially seems lacking in the "hit things until they die" department compared to the other two melee class options.
Hmm, I'm jumping in on this now :P. I think the animations are fine at least for me they are, the graphics are very nice realistic I'm honestly tired of that other game and hate references to it i got so effing bored with it I just stopped like 2 3 years ago, tried war liked it till endgame like someone else mentioned....
But what I wanted to say was this game has some moments... like during a zone wide invasino when the sky turned red and all the plants started burning and cracks formed in the ground from the magma... or the little things like spiders dont just pop into existance.. they crawl up from the ground i was like haw! neat!. And looking out over that first town when yer created and looking at the battlefield down below I thought that was cool... so I found the oooh moments but for me its always the little things.. and this game has them in spades.

So I think I just talked myself out of spending any points in my third soul, and just going full on Chloro/Ele
32 points in Elementalist gets me fully kitted out buff pets, including a greater air elemental that boosts spell power for when my earth elemental tank isn't needed, and the 32 point root ability seems to be an in-battle ability to channel charge into mana.

Well as you know fantasy armor for female protection is inverse to the coverage - the more it covers the less it protects
When I got a full covering robe at level 6 I was concerned I'd be too vulnerable to enemy fire! Didn't take long before "Sideboob curtain +4" was found though
Also, can I just say that in a game that has gathering and production tradeskill professions, that it is a GODSEND to have 3 skill slots available as opposed to 2? I am pleased. I have pleasure re: this.
Honestly, and maybe this is just me, but I'm not going into this game expecting some WOW moment. I don't care that the visual style is "generic," or that the music is "generic." The game works. It just does. That is why I like this game. In fact, I think the "generic"-ness of this game is one thing I am ok with. A lot of games go for some ridiculous over-the-top fantasy, always seemingly trying to one-up each other on their ridiculousness. I feel like with this game, Trion had the restraint to make a fantasy game set in a believable world. This is one thing that more MMO developers could learn.
Oh, and yeah, I guess all animations aren't perfect. Male dwarf running animation is pretty LOL-worthy.
Try as I might, I cannot find a warrior build that even looks interesting. I think part of the problem is there are no "out there" warriors like bards/saboteurs/riftwalkers, melee clerics, or the wide variety of mage specialties (pets vs CC/Support vs more traditional nuking). Every warrior build I see is either "smash things in the face (with some magic dressing maybe)" or "get smashed in the face in place of others".

Reaver is pretty interesting where Warrior is concerned.
They toss around DoTs to multiple enemies.
EDIT: oh, and Beastmaster. Pet classes aren't really new, but melee pet classes are pretty uncommon at best.

Ya dude, mixing beastmaster with Void Knight or Rift Blade sounds like a wild warrior experience you won't find in any other mmo.
Rift Blade and Void Knight sound just as interesting as bards/saboteurs/riftwalkers.
And rift blade seems to have some cool ranged spells involving throwing giant magical elemental spears.
Dunno if this has been posted yet, probably has and I missed it while checking, but just in case here it is again.

Paladin/Riftblade/Beastmaster.
Oh man.... having so much fun. Much more so than my Marksman/Saboteur/Riftstalker. Seems to do a lot more damage too, but I'm not really sure. Either way, so much fun.

I was trying a Paladin/Beastmaster earlier, maybe I should try the Paladin/Riftblade/Beastmaster combo, and not put any points into beastmaster really and just using it for the summon you get off the bat??

The summon and Fierce Strike since it increases pet damage quite a bit and gets you an attack point. Searing Strike from Riftblade just isn't very good... less damage and no special bonus, whereas using Fierce Strike, Pacifying Strike, and Agressive Block gets you:
+20% pet damage
-5% enemy damage
+20% block
If Riftblade's base attack isn't good, why take it? Because Flamespear is good, and if you can end a battle with 3 attack charges, Fiery Burst is a great opener. And I've got all sorts of self buffs...
One notable thing in RIFT I noticed earlier is that in the event the client does crash which happens with just about any MMO out there, you have the option of either sending a report and exiting or sending a report and restarting which will automatically log you back in game.
The only actual annoyance I've run into so far is the 5 quest tracking limit.
I know this is beta and the game is fun and all, but if they can't fix the framerate issues then I don't think I'm going to buy it.
There's not really any excuse for my framerate to randomly drop to 20 when there is no-one around me, on high, and with AA turned off, and on 1024x768 resolution.

Kingstone 4GB DDR 1333.
Hitatchi 3.5" Deskstar 1TB SATA HDD.
PowerColor 1GB HD 5750
One thing that makes me grin with the greatest of happiness ever to be... happy.
It doesn't crash.
I love the game, and it doesn't crash. Sure I'll get DCed sometimes but that's when everyone and their dog is too.
Friend of mine with a 4870x2 hasn't been so lucky with the client in B5 causing VPU crashes unless everythings on low, I've only been crashing infrequently during the invasions.
So, i just played this for about 2 and a half hours. And though, well that was kinda a fun 15 minutes. Till i look at the clock. Hoolly shit this is addicting.
Every time I think I've found the best class combo, there's another. My new obsession is the Void knight/Reaver combination. It;s just freaking awesome.
Plus I love how all my weapons are like, twice the size of my dwarf.

Man, cleric just keeps getting better. Tried out some souls different than the ones I had and after being a ranged caster/healer for 20 levels, switching to a melee dps (justicar) and being able to use the exact same gear is great. It's even a bit like being a ret paladin, except awesome. On top of that, if you slightly switch the spec you become a tank... so great.

Was pretty great
