I get the impression that your digital bonus items for pre-ordering differ depending on where you preorder from (like several games in the past).
Has anyone put together the options for each retail outlet?
Exclusives. It would appear that only the weapon enchant varies by retailer. However, I only see mention of the head start on the official site's pre-order page.
This game's running smooth as a baby's bottom for me. And my rig is 4 years old (built for Vanguard). Compared to most betas I've been in, it runs amazing.

Playing today between 10 and 16 I had a ton of rifts spawning, and 3 zonewide invasions. Barely had time to quest between having to defend outposts from raging fiery hordes.
I was 8 or so when I started, and 16 when I logged off.
So I signed up for a beta account on the Rift website, but I'm confused where to go from here. Is there a beta download link?
Edit: Okay, I applied the code to my account and it says it's a beta VIP key. Will I be getting an email from them or something?
Yeah, you need to wait for the actual invite. (You'll get a e-mail.) Depends on how often they do them, but will usually take about a day max. The download link will appear in your account afterwards.

The only thing that keeps me from buying this game right now is the fact that this is the first MMO I haven't played with a group of RL friends. I don't have that bouncing off each other factor building me into a buying frenzy.
Is there going to be another beta before release so I can try to sucker, er, invite a few friends in?

So, I feel like I'm missing something with this game. Granted, I'm only level 11, but the Rifts don't seem to show up enough to distract from the quests (which get old fast). Rushing from place to place seems important, but movement is slow and the mounts at level 20 appear pretty darn expensive.
Does the instanced PvP grant XP? I guess that might break things up, but the one game type from 10-19 seems pretty flat.
I'd like to like this game. The awesome world event description in the OP is what drew me here. How do I get that stuff?
These beta servers are packed to the gills. People are jumping on the Rifts as soon as they spawn, most of the time, and they aren't even getting the time to grow into full, big, nasty Rifts that can threaten the whole zone (Again, most of the time).
There have been a few times now that I've logged in during the early hours of the day (9am EST) and there have been multiple Rifts all over the place, and once there was one right on top of where I logged out and another about 100 feet away. (I had logged out at the little camp at the end of the bridge to Sanctuary)
During prime time it can be a pain to find Rifts, especially if you're working on your Soul quests, where you need to close a Rift for each one. You'll end up running to one end of the zone to help with a Rift and it will close before or as soon as you get there. This has happened to me several times now
Last night, about 4am est, I was grouping with a fellow PA'er. We finished our Quest, turned around to come back from the enemy camp, and there was 5 huge Rifts in range of us, huge invasion heading towards town, and life enemies EVERYWHERE. It was pretty cool.

I've been playing with each class so far, getting them to around level 15, then moving on. I don't want to cover too much ground during the Beta, and be bored at the beginning once the game releases.
So far I have a 16 Mage (Necro/Warlock/Dominator), a 15 Rogue (Ranger/Marksman/Assassin) and I'm now working on a Warrior (Paladin/Warlord/Void Knight).
Pet classes are absolutely amazing in this game and a huge advantage. I have yet to try out Elementalist, but I imagine the pet is just as good as, if not better, than the Necro pet. So far I love both my Necro and my Ranger equally, and wish I had gone Ranger with him intially, as starting off as a melee Rogue is a bit rough. You're DPS is fine but your health/survivability is extremely low and I found myself dying or coming close to it any time I had more than one mob aggro'd.
I never thought a ranged "Rogue" would be so fun, but the combo point system works perfectly with it I think.
So far I am 50/50 with my Warrior, the Paladin react abilities and shield attacks are a lot of fun, but due to a lower DPS, your extra health & defenses seem less effective. But, he's only level 7 or 8, no doubt it gets better.
Cleric is next on my list before Beta. I am very interested in a melee cleric build.
Stupid question, but how/when do I queue for a warfront? I'm thinking I have to be level 11, but I don't know much beyond that. I'd like to try it out before the beta event ends.

Melee clerics are awesome. As a level 20 Shaman/Warden/Druid (almost all points in Shaman), I can pull 4-5 mobs of equal level and finish the fight with full health. Mana can be an issue, but I imagine it will be much better with the 3% mana on melee crits talent. I highly recommend it over leveling as a caster cleric.

you can be level 10
but realistically under 14 you're just going to be the prettiest guy in prison
I think it was WAR that fixed your level to the highest it could be in a bracket for battlegrounds. So everyone at least had equivalent health/mana/stats. Don't know why more MMOs don't do that.

This was pretty nice, though for some insane reason, they half-assed it and it only brought you to two levels below the cap in that bracket. No idea why they did this. Like the rest of the game, it felt like a great idea with shoddy execution -- though I wouldn't mind seeing a similar system in Rift. Hitting 20 on my cleric and getting essentially locked out of warfronts for five levels or so is no fun.
Playing a paragon dual wield for 19 levels, then a champion with a 2h for 1 level. I strongly suggest anyone with low level aspirations of pvp to go with Champion on a warrior. They have way better abilities and damage compared to the paragon at lower levels. I'm not willing to theorycraft the higher level stuff but I'd strongly suggest keeping away from paragon while leveling to get your extra souls. Might be good in a secondary role for pve or something pre-25 but i'm not even sure of that.

So my general consensus is that Trion didn't reinvent the wheel, they just built a BMW.
Then I came across a fire invasion by Quicksilver College.
And then I realized they built 100 BMW's.

I would definitely agree.
That said, they definitely invented a few things. Public groups are an amazing idea. So is having a PVP soul. There are lots of other little additions here and there that come together to form a vastly superior experience.

Probably because they were too busy killing defiants.
I know that's Marksmen's thing but what other souls do you think might compliment it?
