Yeah the floatiness can be a bother in some of the user generated levels.
In the singleplayer levels I don't seem to mind, though.

For my own level, I removed the floaty jump entirely, giving my sackbot a fast doublejump and a much higher jump and quicker fall.

Personally, I'm just kind overwhelmed by all the possibilities.

I was tragically born without much of an imagination so being creative is a real stuggle for me (just look at my levels, hah). I am surprised how small the community for this game is around here though, I thought for sure it would be booming.

LBP1 was always my go-to game for lulls in my entertainment. Beat all my games? No new ones coming out at the moment? Roomates at work? LBP.

I imagine the same will be true of LBP2. Whenever I have nothing else to do, I'll be all over it. But only then, and only until I get distracted and do something else.

This is a great thread. Some illuminating discussions for sure.
I'm so stoked about the logic gates in lbp2.
I have levels from LBP1 that I made that were brinking on overheating due to excessive manual logic, now they're down to 1/4 of the thermometer or less...still have a lot of rewiring to go too!
Anyone else rewire their lbp1 levels?

So I uh...published my first level.

It's a recreation of Samuel Beckett's 'Breath' and I made it in an afternoon.

I'm actually kind of surprised, it seems like this hasn't been picked up or noticed by a sizable portion of PA.

Eh, the first game kind of got written off by a large portion of the PA community due to its floatiness. Considering they kept the jumping in from the first one, it kept many of those same people away, even with all the other improvements.

Since the community here never really took off, it's been hard for me to work up the desire to power through and complete that level I was working on. Especially with all the other games that have come out and will be coming out soon. And while some of the new MM picks levels are pretty awesome, most are awesome for the novelty factor, rather than the actual fun factor.

I have to wonder if it is more to do with lbpcentral.com It is just a better forum for this. I am still going to post here but the other place is hands down better as far as features and activity. This game has to much of a network effect for everyone to hang out in thier home forum.

I realized that I barely played any of the first game, so I'm going back through and getting stuff that I missed before starting the 2nd one.

Well I remade one of my LBP1 levels from scratch. It really helps getting to grips with the new game mechanics.
Got some good reviews and tips. I'm currently making a checkpoint after the second boss, at the cost of all your points, and redoing the bullets system so sackboy shoots projectiles created by my own design. Does mean the hitpoints system I had has into transform in timers which go down based on damage percentages. Never done this before, but the tutorials on youtube are a nice help. Got some issues with bullets still dissapearing during explosions and invisible holograms, but I hope I find something managble that will fix this. Probably tags.

To help add to the above list we're going to have some level building 'competitions'.

    Competition Time!

I'm open for suggestions for future challenges and changes to the 'rules'. However to kick things off, how about this as a start:

    Rules:-
    • 2 Week dev time. Is this long enough being the game's just come out?
    • For each competition we’ll have a theme, picked by the winner of the previous competition.
    • Themes should generally be loose and not a ‘game-type’. For instance ‘over-head shooter’ isn’t a theme. If we keep to this rule it means hopefully we’ll have a nice varied spread each time and people who have no interest in a certain game-type won’t feel excluded, and people that like to experiment should have lots of scope too.
    • One level per challenge. No 100 level linked epics. If you want to expand on your idea then that’s great, but you’ll be judged on the level you submit.
    • Open development talk should be encouraged, if you’re stuck trying to get something on your level to work then ask!
    • Don’t worry if you don’t think your level is up to much, submit it anyway, that’s the only way you’ll improve!
    • When you've finished your level and you're ready to 'submit' it for play, just post a link in here to your lbp.me page and I'll add it to a section in the op.
    • Voting can be done by anyone reading here, not just those competing. When we're getting to the voting stage I'll also post a link in the general LittleBigPlanet thread to get opinions from there too.
    • The person with the most votes is the winner! Huzzah!

    This week’s theme: Fairground/Theme Parks.

And because I've picked the theme without taking a vote I'll offer up a prize IF we get more than five people competing.

    Note:
Prize will be of little value, you'll probably hate it and it may or may not be poisonous.

    Further note:
If people take absolute exception to the theme and want a change, then I'm happy to do that. If two weeks isn't long enough or is too long then we'll change that too. In fact if anything above doesn't satisfy then just speak up and we can change it round.

    Submissions!

I feel bad I never played it, or many video games in general recently :( I shall rectify that next week when I've recovered from my busy spell of:

    Buying a house
    Getting a cat
    Making the garden cat proof
    Re-designing the front porch
Flooding the house whilst trying to look after the cat
    Repairing the flooded house

    Then I shall create things!

So I just got done playing one level for 2 hours. Monster Pinball 2. This is the coolest pinball games I've seen in a while. The first table itself is like any other table but the game flows really well. I didn't even lose my first ball until 30 minutes in. But the surprise is when you get the ball into the monster's head in the left corner, the camera pans down at it, the monster laughs, then twist it's head around and shoots your ball onto another table where you have a boss battle where you must use green balls to hit one of two pressure switches. One switch is green and does damage to the boss, the other is red and causes you to loss some of your balls and life. The boss also fires lasers at your balls so you might not kill the boss the first or second try. But it's a ton of fun. I got 64th place on the rankings.

    Yeah thats a fun level.

Working on a R-type level now, while my older Contra level gets reviews and tips to make it better (on a different forum). It changed a lot during the time and when I feel its perfect i'll make a sequel so I dont have to change little gameplaythings in two levels.

Anyone got some fun levels made?

So I'm working on a shooter/ platform level. I don't have a name for it but it's a 2 player level where one player controls a ship and shoots enemies while the other using the grabbing hook glove to hold on to the ship. There will be areas where the glove guy has to do some platforming to unlock gates, enemy weakpoints, ect. Right now I'm having a problem with the emitter I need for the ship's gun. It always fires upwards no matter how I adjust stuff. I want the lasers to move to the right of the screen until they hit something or reach max distance.

Where you place an emitter and the emitted object is very important. Between these points is an invisible line which decides in what directrion your bullet will go once you give it some velocity. I recommend replacing them both so you will get a straight line.

If this fails, how about putting a mover on your emitted bullet?

I got a little burnt out on this, but I think I'm almost ready to dive back into my rpg level full-swing

it's something that I really can't imagine ever finishing, but dang will it be cool if I can!

Once I have the combat logic all hammered out I might package it up and offer it in a level so other people can try and make RPGs out of it

It took a few years, but at long last we have Final Fantasy VII on the PS3.

But seriously, I've been meaning to get back into LBP2, and this costume pack was pretty much the last push I needed. I fired it up last night after buying the pack and tried a few levels in my queue.

First one I tried was a JP-made SOTC level that was, quite simply, the greatest LBP creation I'd seen yet. It even trumped that popular tribute from the first game.

Also timely was a fan video called "FF7 Day" that playfully jabbed at the release of the costume pack. I wasn't aware you could actually record voices in the game. It was amusing, and pretty much portrayed the potential of disturbing videos to come.

The lack of any decent FF levels is infuriating though; are music levels really the best people can come up with? I'd give it a shot myself, having not once touched the level editor, but the complexity of many of these levels and movies seriously terrifies me to attempt it.

Anyway, I've been wanting to co-op for a while now, for fun as well as earning those trophies, so I think now's as good a time as any. If you haven't added me yet, feel free to do so (but please indicate you're from PA so I can filter you out from the spam invites), but if you'll indulge my inner fanboyness, I'm really hoping for a full party of 4 decked out in the FFVII costumes. So many awesome screenshots can be taken.

I didn't want to necro this thread, I'm not sure how many people here still play this game, but now that it's on the front page you should all play my bomberman rip off. Not much to it, really, but I plan on adding some powerups and making a few aesthetic changes in the future. Bring friends.

I'm still chugging away at the ecco level, it's gotten a bit out of hand, but once everything is done I think it'll be pretty awesome. Estimated release date: summer 2015.

Feel free to add me as a friend, I still have a couple buddies I play co-op with, and the more the merrier.

No need to worry, I necro'd it 30 minutes ago.

Also while I can see extended breaks in playing, I can't fathom people quitting altogether. I only took about 3 months off and now there's over a hundred quality-made levels to play through.

It'll only get bigger from here once the Vista version comes out. The way they presented it at E3, making levels will be easier than ever.

Would it help if I created a ridiculously difficult level, that killed you over and over? You like that kind of thing right?

Or I could just stand behind you and punch you in the back of the head whilst you play.
