I've heard that chapter is very buggy, you on PC? and no, that aint suppose to happen.

I am indeed on PC. I locked up for the first and only time so far in this chapter, and now this issue. So far no luck getting around this issue. I'm trying to avoid restarting the whole chapter since I seem to be pretty far into that chapter. Bummer.

Hedge - yeah that is what seems to be going on. If I back the camera up into the room I can see through the walls and such.

I am sad to discover there's no "restart chapter" option! Guess I should have used multiple saves =\

Just beat the game on Zealot. I went with the Refurbished Plasma Cutter (old school!), Line Gun, Javelin and Hacker Contact Beam.

The CBeam is pretty awesome. One good shot obliterates most things.

Going to start a NG+ soon and try to polish off every achievement apart from Hardcore and then give that a go when I feel up to it.

I just got to the food court (where the Lightspeed De Milo thing is) I can see items on the floor below me, but I dont see how I can get down there, and TK doesnt seem to work, I can go into this Unitology recruiting center, but do I get to those items later ? That interview is pretentious. It's just a videogame soundtrack, and it wasn't anything especially memorable.

    Wait, what?

While I agree that the wording at times was a little pretentious this is wrong.

First off "It's just a.." is a pretty shitty argument for anything. It just undermines someones work without actually judging the quality on the whole.

Furthermore, "memorable" isn't exactly what someones going for in horror movies/games. I would think that the point there is to slowly build up suspense to supplement whats going on in a scene rather than presenting some overblown track.

    :?

Also you are speaking about a score that has won multiple awards. Just sayin'.

google's saying that that's an intentional part of the game's DRM system, so...

It's some pretty bad DRM then, as I purchased the game on steam.
    ScreenShot099.jpg

I enjoy being falsely implicated in theft as much as the next man, but that isn't the case here.

EDIT - also doing some googling of my own I see people having a problem in the same area I am who pirated the game, but theirs crashes.
Yet another fine example of legit customers being more hurt by DRM than pirates.

Pirates actually got the fix last I read the release blog, the game works without issue for them, as the crack circumvents the copy protection.

You'll probably need to wait for a patch to trickle down officially. That may take some time. May not happen at all.

Just another in a long line of examples where people who purchase their items legitimately get fucked in the ass by the copy protection intended for the customer that is the exact opposite.

    Never ceases to amuse me.

    Just tragic.

Yeah I saw on the thread a link to the patch for the pirated version, sigh.

I'm using the defragment option in steam now because I saw someone who had a similar issue in that level with asteroids not being visible do that and it fixed it.
Also I noticed earlier but didnt think about it...I can see no stars from anyone window in that chapter. I should have known something odd was up! =)
Ill hope the defrag works and if not, hope for a patch!

Bug or intended? I think it's right at the end of chapter 5, during an action sequence, my controls got swapped. Instead of mouse1 for firing, I had to press mouse2 (which is mapped to alternate fire). So I died many times because I kept getting confused becomes a few times it would swamp back to normal. Anyone else have this problem?

I was always tensed up whenever I exited a maintenance shaft for a necromorph screaming and running at me.
Happened only once, but I can't remember where.

    On another note, in the
    EarthGov section
towards the end of the game, the creepiest shit happened.

I just cleared a room of necromorphs, and there was a Bench in the room. Well, you know
the thin tall necromorphs that split into like five pieces when you kill them and has a head piece too
? Well, as I started up a Bench and heard some noises. I was like "Oh shit" because it was a lot louder than any ambient noise, and next thing I know I'm being attacked. I was freaking out to, trying to exit from the Bench thing but got hit so I left it anyway. Killed the god damn thing.

Reason I was freaking out was because I had a very bad experience with said necromorph.
First time I met one it's head piece tried to attack my head and I was being swarmed by the other parts so I got killed. Isaac's head was cut off and the thing inserted itself onto Isaac's head and began walking around as him. Pretty cool death, but I hated that thin man thing for it.

    Jesus.

Is anyone going through this game as slowly as I am? I am creeping through each room, one step at a time, turning behind me to check none of those sneaky bastards is about to jump me.

Chapter 6... I have never in the history of Dead Space had to buy ammo at the store before. Until now.
I'm on the stage for the school play, do the maintenance to lower the stage/seating, full families of necromorphs come spilling out. I have had no ammo this entire chapter. And now this?! I wasted all what little shots I had on those damn exploding babies. Dealing with the few monsters that crop up now and then in this stage with no ammo goes something like this:

    *Shoot* *Stamp* *Collect ammo* *Reload*

and repeat... But this will be tricky when I am being flooded like this...

Don't let me down now proximity mine gun...

I loved the first Dead Space so the sequel was an easy sell to me. I had high expectations and they have been met and then some. However, I think part of the enjoyment depends on how you play. I wouldn't play this game in the day. No no no. Has to be lights off, dead of night, alone, very loud headphones on a large TV please.

The good thing about the kid necromorphs is that they go down really easily. It just sucks if they begin to swarm you. Thankfully I had enough ammo on my Plasma Cutter to just one shot the fuckers.

The difficulty curve for Survivalist feels a little off, to me. It's balls-easy until you get to chapter 10, where it becomes hard, and then you get to 13 and the game decides to facefuck you.

The only part that really really frustrated me was the last fight:
Didn't have a lot of ammo, and kiting infinitely spawning adds isn't really my idea of fun. My guns also weren't set up to fight an infinite swarm. Pulse Rifle is okay for that situation, but I only had 100 rounds left after the mad sprint to the end; Plasma Cutter and Seeker Rifle were really difficult to use due to the goddamn adds jumping in front of Nicole all the goddamn time.

    Last fight gameplay only spoiler
I found the Seeker dead easy. You can beat that fight in like 60 seconds top. Just blast the boss, reload and attack the objective, and repeat. If you're fast, you barely notice the adds

Also, the last boss has an cool death cinematic if you lose, so make sure you see it before you beat the game.

    I had 5 Seeker rounds

The ripper is possibly even better in this game then the first. I am playing on Zealot and it is, well ripping, through guys.

Black necro, 1 blade, black vomiter, 1 blade, 4 necros, stasis + 1 blade. This is easily the most efficient weapon in the game ammo wise.

I am disappointed that they changed the way Isaac holds the gun, he used to have it at his side now he holds it out in front of him like the cutter. I think they did the same to the flamethrower.

I can't get behind the force gun and I think they nerfed the cutter in this, but the ripper, the ripper is life.

    Shockpoint Bundle-

Shockpoint Suit (decreases Stasis recharge 5%)
Shockpoint Ripper (primary fire lasts one second longer, increases reload speed 5%)

How different do these new suits look? Are they all just reskins or are there some new models in there?

Any screenshots/images for the DLC stuff?

Answering myself here, closest I could find to screenshots are the xbox page banner for each pack, the Marial Law pack has the best shot, showing you both suits. Here they are:

    Martial Law:
    banner.png

    Hazard:
    banner.png

    Supernova (doesn't show anything):
    banner.png

I think I might be dumb and shell out $5 for the supernova pack for the rivet gun.

Oh and we might want to add some of the DLC information to the OP.

I went ahead and bought the Supernova pack just for the rivet gun. The suits are all kind of boring and all just reskins of existing suits in the game.
    • The Forged Engineering Suit is just a silver version of the Engineering suit.
    • The Heavy Duty Vintage Suit is a silver and green version of Vintage suit. Looks like it has some grime on it, but pretty boring.
    • The Agility Advanced Suit is a silver and pinkish/red (salmon) colored version of the advanced suit. It is probably the most visually interesting of the bunch.

All the DLC suits have 15% armor and all DLC items/suits are free and available from the start of the game (at the first store you hit). So they feel a bit like cheating. I'm sure they would really help in hardcore mode thought because you could get the weapons and 15% armor off the bat.

Also, there is defiantly some kind of bug going on with the security suit, as it will just remove itself from your bank after purchase and reappear at the store. Not sure what triggers it.

EDIT: Just checked out the reskinned weapons. They are really boring also, either all grey or grey with a little bit of color. Reskins are bad enough for the prices they are charging, but these are really lazy reskins.

I think giving Isaac a voice and more seen face was a good decision on the developer's parts. Sometimes when you give voice to a silent protagonist it's very hit and miss, but I liked Isaac.
