If you applied with a key, you're probably in by now. Just check if you can see the closed beta forums on gamersfirst.

I finally got into this beta so all I can says wow I really do not like programs that automatically decide they should be run every time windows starts.

I can't even apply, and I have two codes. :/

The irony of that isn't lost on me.

In other news, anyone want a code?

You can't apply after the 1.5 patch, I think. So you're out of luck until open beta I guess.

I got in. The game still retains much of its charms but noticeably has a nice fixing here and tweaking there. I only played the old beta so I don't know how much of this is Gamersfirst but I think the game will just have evolutionary changes, not revolutionary.

Somehow, I don't see Gamersfirst as having an art team that can design up new weapons/cars/districts but that doesn't mean the game can't be fun.

As long as they can patch some some of the bugs and things I will be a happy player. I've noticed it's just as buggy and glitchy as it was back at the real time worlds launch.

I don't know. Actually hosting a potentially massive open world network GTA-style on the PC market seems pretty revolutionary to me. Assuming they can upkeep the elimination of hackers and including regular balance updates.

That said, god I missed this game.

Go into your control panel and look for the pando media booster control panel. You MIGHT have to use the search function if on windows 7. Go to settings, and limit the upload speed to 1KB/s.

By default, it's unlimited. It really sucks.

To be specific, it's the GamersFirst Live client that uses Pando. You can uninstall it once you've got the APB client installed, as its own launcher will take over. At least that's what I did, with no side effects thus far.

Yeah I recommend doing this because wow fuck pando seriously fuck pando holy shit I cannot say fuck pando enough.

I don't know why they can't just host the exe file that it downloads somewhere and save everyone the trouble. It doesn't use pando for anything else too.

I know. I always hate it when an MMO service uses pando.

Anyway, I should try downloading the game and installing it again to see if it'll run any better, but I don't think I have a good enough Graphic card to run it.

I'm not sure I'm at liberty to discuss why we do or don't use various partners or technologies, but I put it to the intelligent posters here at PA to puzzle out why a free2play company, where the vast, vast majority of people who download content never actually pay anything for it, would need to distribute that content through Pando as opposed to hosting it directly for download.

Putting it up for download as a torrent would be a good option too though. I'm not sure why we don't do that.

Also, we hired a bunch of ex-RTW guys who are at this very moment designing new cars, guns, and districts.

Well, just ran around for an hour, and most of that was configuring my settings and checking out the social district. I ran exactly one mission but I am excited to run more.

Biggest change I saw so far? Everything that's locked tells you how to unlock it. Achievements and roles too; thank god.

Edit: Can anyone enlighten me as to how/when we're supposed to get our stuff from the original release back, and in what amounts/types? Clothes, cars, guns, decals, etc etc?

I know this dude was contracted by G1.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jQE0e673CY

I don't know what is/has been changed but I do notice a few textures and areas appear sharper than they were, as well as depth of field. I would like to see 'punchier' lighting though where a dark ally is genuinely dark. Where there isn't a light source, there should be light.

I would like to see a few interface options expanded upon. For instance, the character 'class' progression system is really clunky and doesn't really explain anything more than "Use the rifle to get higher ranks of rifleman to unlock more rifles."

A map or some kind of family tree for contacts would be a great option as well because I always have a hard time juggling between contacts that I typically go "Okay, Financial district. G Kings. ONLY." And try and knock out as much as I can. That's how I played it with RTW, that's how I still play it.

I am glad though to hear that G1 isn't just a curator of content and is actively adding to APB. Also Brink, if any of this is kinda bordering on unmentionable discussions, lemme know. Its not like I am posting patch notes or anything- its just the official forums tend to ignore lengthy and well thought out posts and instead opt to reply to "This game sucks, here's why" but then again, that is every beta forums ever. Plus I'd rather talk to an actual dev from time to time.

I should point out that I work on the publishing side, not development, so I'm not really a dev. Based on those videos, your comments, and what I know is in development though, I think when games like APB go out, flawed as they are, there are fixes which are glaringly obvious to everyone except the people who've spent the last 5 years of their lives on it because they've been so close. It almost makes me think that every MMO should be developed by one team, then maintained by another. The idea of the map/family tree is a good one. I'd be surprised if there wasn't already some kind of progression roadmap in the works.

I'm hoping that when it does, I might get the game SOMEWHAT playable. Sure, my crappy card is part of the problem, but an east cost server would help a BIT at least.

What price for optional access to a virtual item in a game that you neither have to buy nor subscribe to would be acceptable to you? I, for instance, would have preferred to pay Dave and Buster's $2.00 for an unlimited access last week instead of the $50 I dropped for two hours of, quite frankly, lame arcade games. I did get a plastic parachute man and a sweet Nerds Rope when I turned in my tickets though plus this awesome ability to put things in perspective.

Most free to play games place things in the 5-10$ range to have permanently in the ones i play(going off of equipment in EQ2 and LOTRO and champions in LoL) Really I think its shooting yourself in the foot to rent equipment out to people for half the price per month other companies give items for permanently, rather than just letting people have weapons permanently and coming up with new items to encourage people to buy more.

People like buying new content, they don't like buying the exact same content over and over every month.

Yeah, renting out items looks like you're trying to hide a subscription. If you're going to do that, then just have a subscription fee.

Alternatively, raise the item prices and sell them permanently. And apparently hats are also the secret to item shop success.

This justifies the constant deluge of multi-colored hat ideas to which I continuously subject developers! Anyway, the rest of the items, permanent and not (and competitively priced at about the same as or less than taliosfaction mentioned), is yet to come -- the stuff that's come out in Closed Beta is not the whole buffet, just the salad bar. It's a way to begin appeasing the pantheon of surly suit-gods who demand to know if APB can generate enough revenue to sustain itself when given proper care and attention!

I never did see APB as a game that could make RTW that 100million that was invested into it.

But G1 and their 1.5million, that's fucking doable. Hell, EQ2 puts out a new cloak and people jizz all over it.
