in short the woman was trying to give her kids a better life by registering them for a school in the district where their father lived

somebody reported her, she now is on 3 years probation, has a felony (and therefore can't complete her teaching degree, which she was 12 credit hours from), and now this family that lives in the projects is saddled with at least another 35,000 in debt, whoopsies.
Please tell me that she's can appeal that shit.

the ending to the first series combined with the movie can fuck off something fierce though

    goddamn what kinda shit

    Vague Brotherhood ending spoilers.
Brotherhood's ending isn't much better; it's almost like rejected Evangelion fanfiction.

wait what was wrong with brothererhood's ending

also, as far as the old series vs. the new one goes, I'd say the old series is better for everything up to lab 5, at which point brotherhood is better

It definitely feels like they were rushing through the stuff we'd already seen so it could get to the actually "new" content

I do like the setting of
a giant ballroom in the middle of an underground city

for the ending of the original though, even if the actual ending was stupid as shit
It basically falls into the same trap that the anime did, only on a larger scale; you basically use magic to replace plot.

which part are you referring to specifically
I'm assuming the stuff about how he manages to beat The Truth's riddle and get things back to normal?

I dunno it seemed reasonable to me. He relinquished his ability to change the world as he saw fit in exchange for one last rule-free change.
No, I'm talking about how Father is able to absorb The Gate, and the souls of every Amestrian.

It's using alchemy as a substitute for magic to create a ridiculous situation, where the tension is outweighed by the amount of crazy bullshit present in the plot.

The rest of the ending was a'ight, but the rest of it definitely moves it into the same category of ending as the anime; specifically, the "Crazy Bullshit" category.

That's just my opinion though, for what it's worth.
I can see where you might think that, but I definitely don't think that it's as bad as the first series

the shit about the real world existing on the other side of the gate and alchemy being powered by the souls of people who die in the real world was a complete ass pull that made no sense and was not telegraphed in the slightest.

On the other hand, the stuff that Father does during the ending is basically an extremely exaggerated version of ideas that had been around for a long time by that point. Philosopher stones are made of human souls, and the more people you use, the more powerful the stone. It stands to reason then that a stone made out of an entire nation of people would be absurdly powerful. The idea of God or whatever is hinted at here and there though it's never really gone into. They do talk about alchemy being generated by some kind of energy that's tapped into, so it makes a certain amount of sense to me that a powerful enough alchemist could completely control that power if he sacrificed enough.

I think interpreting the notion of privilege that way tends to be a defensive over-reaction to the actual argument. Not yelling or anything.

Funny, because I have repeatedly had some professors state in no uncertain terms that someone who is privileged (white) literally can not be taken advantage of by someone without privilege. It's so set in their mind that privilege wipes any harm done to you away that they will not admit that someone who's not privileged burning the car of someone who they see as privileged harms them in any way. Hey, they can just buy a new car with all that privilege! No harm done!
