FINE, I guess I'll pick up B:AA. Probably won't get around to playing it before the end of the year, though.
To be fair, it's unlikely to go much cheaper, and is an absolute steal at this price. I think I got it on sale for like $20 during the Christmas sale after it came out, and it was a steal then. For around 1/3 of that, it's practically an indictable offense.
Yeah, I bought it at that same sale and I feel like I got away with something.
Paid full price at launch and still feel I owe them something. If you are even a small fan of TAS then it's easily worth that alone.
Ooh, new steam sale. This will be an interesting (and dangerous) week. Fortunately, I already have Arkham Asylum (woo Christmas sale - also, everyone should get it. It's an excellent port; the controls feel smooth and natural on KBAM (albeit not great on a laptop), and are even better if you have a 360 controller you can hook up.
Also, if it's up for sale, you should get the Lara Croft: Guardian of Light game. It's pretty solid.
Things I want (please tell me if they're terrible):
The Last Remnant
Deus Ex
Deus Ex: Invisible War
Things I need info on (are they good?):
Just Cause 2 (what games is it like? I need a comparison to decide how worth it it is. Do I need the DLC?)
Kane and Lynch 2 (I know nothing about it, and is the DLC necessary?)
Tomb Raider: Underworld (I want a copy of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune 1/2, but I don't have a PC - is this a reasonable approximation, or just terrible?)
Yahtzee's review of Just Cause 2 is pretty spot-on. It's an open world sandbox and your job is literally to cause mayhem. You get a variety of weapons and vehicles to achieve this goal. You've got an infinite use grappling hook/hookshot and an endless supply of parachutes you can use to get around when you aren't flying jets or driving four wheelers. Since you're trying to destabilize an island government you go around destroying government facilities. You frequently help rebel factions take over government bases and do other jobs for them.
So you've got a big dose of GTA circa San Andreas, 3rd person gun action, grappling onto helicopters and skyjacking them from the pilot, crashing jets into fuel depots, upgrades for everything by finding collectible thingers, and lots and lots of explosions.
It's a great game and I can't wait for it to go on sale again.
Things I need info on (are they good?):
Just Cause 2 (what games is it like? I need a comparison to decide how worth it it is. Do I need the DLC?)
Like Sandboxy freeroaming 3rd person games?
Liked the GTA series but thought "I need more EXPLOSIONS AND CHAOS"?
Do you like Collecting stuff (While not necessary to finish the game, it helps in order to upgrade equipment, and the game has ingame tools to help you find everything)?
It's a really nice looking game, it looks like a GTA 3D clone, but it's kind of different, not taking itself seriously, the main theme is causing chaos and destruction in a small asian country.
But the amount of things you can do, just exploring around, not minding the story.. I managed to clock 70 hours into the game and just have like 57% of the game complete.
You should watch some youtube videos or download the demo!
... I didn't buy any DLC, but I have read the the flight DLC is good.
Things I need info on (are they good?):
Kane and Lynch 2 (I know nothing about it, and is the DLC necessary?)
Okay, first the bad parts of Kane & Lynch 2:
The single player campaign is short. Unless you artificially pad the length by playing on the hardest difficulty mode, it will take you three, maybe four hours to finish it.
You will spend all of those three, maybe four hours doing the same thing - sprinting from rapidly-disintegrating cover to rapidly-disintegrating cover, shooting mans. If this doesn't sound like fun to you, back away slowly.
Every character is a miserable, hate-filled, scumbag. The plot is bleak to the point of being nihilistic. Said plot also takes a rather hefty swing towards the ridiculous towards the end.
Nobody plays the multiplayer anymore, except for about a week after a sale.
Now, why this game is not the worst crime against gaming:
The visual style. Yeah, you might put this under "the worst bad part", but the smeared, pixelated, "shitty phone camera footage uploaded to YouTube" visual style is consistently and brilliantly done. It gives the game a sense of raw, chaotic immediacy that a more photo-realistic style couldn't do (i.e., Kane & Lynch 1). This really makes up for a lot of the flaws listed above and makes for a unique, if divisive, experience.
The main multiplayer mode, Fragile Alliance, is fucking awesome. You can play a half-assed version of it solo in "Arcade Mode".
Download the demo. It's pretty much one of the better levels of the game, and will more than give you enough of a taste of the gameplay and the "love it or hate it" visual style.
If you like the demo, the main game is more than worth the $5 or so it'll probably be on sale for, again.
The DLC is for the most part skippable. They're all multiplayer only. You know, that multiplayer nobody plays? The Doggy Bag is three additional multiplayer levels, and only a tiny fraction of the nobody who ever plays K&L2 multiplayer owns them, hence you're stuck playing them in Arcade Mode only. The masks and weapons packs are pretty much just visual changes and not real content.
So guys... just wanted to drop a little knowledge that my day of birth is tomorrow... you know... no reason
Stop asking for people to give you games in the Steam thread. Your avatar changed, but I'm pretty sure you were pulling this exact same shit several times during the Christmas sales.
If I'm wrong, I apologize, but I'm pretty sure I'm not. Damn search function.
edit: Can't find anything on google, so I could be mistaken. Still, begging be straight trippin' yo.
Yeah, seconding Figgy on this one. It's one thing for someone to pull generosity and offer to buy games for others in the Steam thread or on Steam itself, if you're friends. It's something else entirely to troll for gifts.

Perhaps it's just my horrible, horrible DSL connection, but for some reason the Steam store (both online and through the client) has been loading at sub-56k speeds for me lately. Doesn't effect Steam community, or game downloads, only the store.
Anyone else having that issue? It's really killing my Steam buzz

Do you have a port blocker on? I had an issue with that a while back with Steam.

Dang figs, was definitely not begging. More of a coy remark. Sorry if it came across as that.
I also did not beg during the Christmas sale, I think you're thinking of JDCapo or something. But thanks for being a jerk for no reason!

I agree with Figgy on this one. I was trying to use the find more posts for the same reason. You can call it a 'coy remark' or anything you want. You're clearly just fishing for handouts with it.

Took the time to look it up because I remembered the same thing. You're not mistaken. This was still before Xmas early December, didn't look all the way to and beyond Xmas
So... I can only say that the PA community is filled with classy gents, they really helped me during the Holiday December sale and I even won a couple of contests, you just have to contribute too.
Anyway, trying to setting a better tone: I'm currently browsing through the Square Enix Pack looking for games I should look out for during the sale, I currently owe:
Deus Ex
Just Cause 2
Batman: AA
And I now have in my look out list the following:
Tomb Raider and the Guardian of light ... ?
And that I have to avoid Front Mission Evolve like the Black Plague.

Figgy, that was a totally different guy you are thinking of. Fmz65 (SensAZN on Steam) is a good guy and is part of the PA SR2 group. Heck, we hang with him in group chat every single day. While that post might have looked bad to someone who doesn't know him, I can tell you straight up that it was 100% not how it was intended. Trust him on that.

Huh, maybe so. Still, knowing the guy, I really don't think it was some kind of greedy game grubbing agenda, but simply just a joke. Buttcleft has done the same thing here, and it's always just played for laughs and he doesn't ever expect anything either.
Do you people know what it is like to wake up with a Europa Universalis hangover?
Hey Idol, your avatar is actually a famous Bollywood actor and one of his big movies was Mr. India, where he played a combination of Dr. No and M. Bison. Even had a catch phrase.
Did Arkham Asylum have some kind of horrible DRM or am I thinking of another game?
It requires GfwL which many here consider to be horrible and is technically DRM.
It ate my completed game save before I could get 100%...
and it eats BAA saves quite regularly, according to the internets.
So yeah, GFWL is shit. It takes away much more than it gives you.
I mean, I can play most of my Steam games offline (been doing so last week), but I can't play anything with UBI DRM or GFWL.
Things I want (please tell me if they're terrible):
The Last Remnant
Deus Ex
Deus Ex: Invisible War
Whoa, we only talk about Deus Ex ALL THE TIME... Hell yeah it's the best game ever.
DX: IW is really far from the awesomeness of DX, but it's not as bad as people say. It's... good enough to be worth the time.
TLR is weird as fuck, very Japanese and probably really damn long. I got it cheap, but I don't know if it's worth it.
Things I need info on (are they good?):
Just Cause 2 (what games is it like? I need a comparison to decide how worth it it is. Do I need the DLC?)
IT'S SO FUCKING EXCELLENT OMG
Best non-city sandbox game ever. You have the largest map ever in the genre, with tall mountains, deserts, plains, swamps, jungles, cities, all looking gorgeous and all traversable by the most funnest means ever. you can grapple-and-parachute around, steal ANY vehicle from a tuk-tuk to combat jets, including all kinds of boats, trucks, motorcycles, helicopters, sports cars...
I've played it for 50 hours and barely touched the story.
DLC is just extra stuff (guns and vehicles), kinda cool but not mandatory.
Kane and Lynch 2 (I know nothing about it, and is the DLC necessary?)
Tomb Raider: Underworld (I want a copy of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune 1/2, but I don't have a PC - is this a reasonable approximation, or just terrible?)
Underworld is good, KnL2 I don't know. some people say it gives cancer, other say it's a good game. There's a demo.
Just Cause 2:
In addition to what everyone else is saying, the game is Fricking HUGE! 1000 Square Kilometers (380 Square Miles) and has 300+ settlements, towns, military bases, ports etc in it.
Really lot to do there.
DLC isn't needed at all, but if you're Mr.Moneybags they can't make the game worse.

Still hard to believe how horrible GFWL is. Can you even *search* the games list? >.<
At least it installed without crashing on my main computer this time. Think the only thing I'm waiting for on GFWL is Zoo Tycoon 2 though, and it better be cheap >.>
You have to be kidding me, Arkham Asylum on for $7.50? Goddamnit Steam, stop trying to take all my money.
I've been tempted to hold off for seeing AA on ps3 on clearance somewhere, but I think I'll have to pull the trigger here. Fortunately, I've gotten my ps3 controller working on the pc, so it should be a sufficiently similar experience.
Not sure how the KBaM would work with a game like this. Maybe better, and I'm totally off.
Console Batman has been dancing between between 15 - 20$ pretty much since boxing week up here in Canuckastan. No fighting with gfwl and no crying because my crappy machine can't play anything beyond Torchilight or Plants v Zombies :P

Coming out in defense of fmz here too. His stats says he's been here for 3 years and has 1,100 posts so he's hardly some fly-by-night moocher. On the same token fmz it's probably best to lay low for a while.
What the Batman folks have done is make sure that KBAM play well, which involves changing and decoupling some functions around versus the controller instead of mapping the buttons 1:1 to the keyboard/mouse and calling a job well done. Even little touches, like the hud being changed to a linear 1-8 bar for equipment instead of remaining a meaningless radial menu.
AA is a multiplat title done excellently.
I didn't realize they did that for the menu. Kudos to them then for detecting that I am playing with a 360 controller and giving me the radial menu. It's much easier to use the radial, since I'm on a controller, than to let go and hit the number keys.
Oh, and GFWL is so fucking shitty, that if I install IE9, the live sign in assistant breaks, and then I can't play any GFWL games.
Anyone complaining about steam should read a bit about how shitty GFWL actually is.
Of all DD clients/game overlay things, GFWL has by far the worst integration with Windows and with the games, it also has the worse interface, the worse performance, the biggest amount of bugs, the most outdated feature set...
Xfire was already better 4 years ago, Raptr is better, Steam is a billion times better. GFWL adds nothing but shit to games, and offers almost nothing useful in return.
Man Just Cause 2 would be so awesome with a coop sandbox mode.
Just jumping into the island with a few people and screwing around, attaching people to helicopters and flying them around while someone sticks you to a propane tank and fires you into space.
