It was probably mentioned earlier, but Sony was showing off memory sticks for the Vita at E3. 4/8/16/32 GB sizes. Shame there isn't a 64 GB option yet, but 32 GBs will have to do.
Why does Sony have to stick with their proprietary memory cards? Simple, ubiquitous SD cards would be so much better.
It wouldn't be Sony if they didn't try to slap some proprietary bullshit in their new machine.
Except aside from having Pro Duos as the storage for the PSP and the single plug PSPGo, Sony don't do this. USB ports, Micro USB ports, Bluetooth, standard SATA hard drives in a normal PC mount. Compatibility with any USB mice, keyboards, bluetooth keyboards and devices like bluetooth headsets...
I'm just going to assume you meant Microsoft there.
I pre-ordered off Amazon, that way no money charged and I can cancel if I decide to hold off. Just want to know what's available at launch, how much games cost, battery life and how much they're going to charge for these memory cards.
With the Welcome Back program, can you only get two PS3 games OR two PSP games, or two of each? I claimed my PS3 games last night, but I sold my PSP to buy a 3DS. Could I get the PSP games with my PS3 and put them on the PSV when the time comes?
Yeah, that should be no problem. I ended up redeeming them on my PS3 and downloading them on my PSP, because it wouldn't connect for a couple days for some reason.

You skipped over UMD there, pardner.
And no, Sony is more or less defined by their fetish for proprietary formats. Just because you can throw out a laundry list of things they included that weren't proprietary doesn't mean they don't like to try and jam at least a few of their own things in every single time they release anything, and that's not limited to their gaming stuff either. They do this with their A/V stuff as well. And they always have.
Blu-Ray isn't proprietary.
2.5" fully exchangeable hard drives aren't proprietary.
Bluetooth isn't proprietary.
Mini-USB isn't proprietary.
You can't call the PS3 proprietary, unlike the 360 which has it's own overpriced hard drives and controllers you can't plug into a computer (forcing you to by a separate USB one).

There's this thing, where they happen to make flash media in another part of their company. If they use their own format, then they get more money, either from license fees or from consumers buying Sony brand cards. If they used SD, they'd lose most of their money coming in from their flash media division.

Playing with this thing at E3 locked in a 100% day one purchase for me, though the fact that I'm #1 on the pre-order list helps. 8-)

As soon as I saw it available for Pre-order in my store's Employee News, I immediately walked over and pre-ordered it. I was also the first person to pre-order a 3DS there as well.
I think I need help.

LBP and Uncharted are best so far. LBP is must have really. It looks and plays exactly like the PS3 version but with added touchscreen and six axis puzzle elements.
Yeah that's a game I imagine gets a big boon from touchscreen.
Not played LBP2 but I liked the first one.
You could do really awesome things like pull back a springboard in the level and launch your sackboy with your finger and tilt the system to make things roll towards and away from you, then just go right back to using the regular controls.
I think I'm plunking down the $$ for a used PSP tomorrow. I'm having a struggle choosing a fat/slim or a Go. I like the idea of having my games live on the console - and 16gb seems pretty good for what I'd play - but the fat seems most hackable and to have the longest battery. I probably won't be able to decide until I hold them tomorrow.
Unless the form factor of the Go is a big plus, get a UMD model, and just buy a 16 GB memory stick. You'll get the same experience, and still be able to play the occasional game that's not available as a download.
How comfortable is the handheld and the thumbsticks on the PSV? I am super excited about the Vita it seems like they addressed all the problems I had with the psp and added on even more stuff on top.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

The thing is comfortable to hold and felt right weight wise, but I didn't have enough time with it to get a serious feel for the sticks.
I am torn between not wanting to be an early adopter (because there's always a price cut and a 2.0 of things a year later) and wanting this because I don't want a 3DS, and my DS Lite is quickly running out of gas in terms of available games and general wear-and-tear.
The price is at least really attractive, even if I have to add an extra $50 or something for a decent memory stick. Curious to see what the price of games will also be.

That picture should be on the back of the box when you buy it, make the box super slick and nice, then just that picture with "The experience you will have playing PSVita" highlighting it.

Any last minute feedback on choosing a model?
I think the 1000, 2000, and 3000 all have about the same battery life. The battery is bigger in the original model, but they changed to a smaller (but same amount of battery life) for the 2000 and 3000. Definitely get a UMD model over the go. You'll be able to get a lot of games cheaper on UMD than you can on PSN. Plus if you buy a UMD game and don't like it, you can always resell it.
Back from Gamestop. Did a few tradeins and with the bonuses I was able to get a refurbished PSP 1000. They were only $10 more than used and had a screen protector included which I would have had to buy anyways - and their used units looked absolutely horrible, the employee even said so. The refurb looked really nice. I liked the heft of the 1000, heard it's the easiest to hack, and the worker said he has 2 launch models that are running fine still so I decided the extra $10 for the slim wasn't really worth it for me...
Got the refurb, a 2 gig memory stick, Twisted Metal, Daxter, R&C Size Matters, Hot Shots Golf 1, Wipeout Pure and spent $5.01 out of pocket. Now I'm super excited to get out for the day to go home and play. Eventually I'll need a bigger memory stick, but for now I'm pretty content...
When you play R&C change the controls to put strafe on the nub - it makes the game much, much more playable. Same goes for Secret Agent Clank if you ever pick that one up.
That one also drained 6 AA batteries like no one's business and was uncomfortable as hell to hold for long periods.
Star Wars was pretty nice though.
And it had Sonic....
I liked my Game Gear - Shinobi was pretty awesome too. Eventually the battery thing got annoying though. I eventually got rid of it and went portable-less for awhile.

I'm kind of leaning towards Vita this gen. 3DS does nothing for me.
Then again, PSP did nothing for me.
Might just hold onto the DSiXL for a while. XD

Well i just checked out detailed reviews of Little Big Planet, Mod Nation Racers, and Uncharted for the Ps3.
I have to say if they can pull any of these three games off competently, and comparatively to their ps3 counterparts, while still taking advantage of the Vita's controls etc... I may never put down my Vita.

Waiting to see how the game libraries shape up is always the right answer with consoles.
The first year of the DS was painful, simply painful. Yoshi's Touch & Go was admittedly awesome - but not awesome enough to carry a console for months.

Good finds, congrats! I would have pushed for the move up to the Slim for the minimal extra cost, but then again I prefer the lighter form factor. There is something to be said for the nerd-porn heft and bulk of the original 1000, though. Even the UMD door, as terrible as the format is, just felt heavy and weighty, and with the perforated detailing on the front of the system, the 1000 feels like a sports car or a Transformer, all metal and chrome.
If you like Hot Shots Golf and Wipeout, I highly recommend their relative sequels (HSG Open Tee 2 and Wipeout Pulse), which are generally the same ideas, just expanded with more depth and variety. And if you like RPGs and puzzle games, you should definitely check out Half-Minute Hero.

Initially, I wasn't really that interested in LBP's whole shtick (floaty platforming, creating and sharing, online coop play), but I've been playing the freebie version I got from the PSN Welcome Back program and I'm really enjoying it. Will definitely be getting it whenever I end up with a Vita -- what I've seen of the Vita version looks kind of jawdropping. All of the touch and tilt functionality seems like such a perfect fit for the game. It's almost as if LittleBigPlanet was actually a Vita game that was sent back in time several years and then back-ported to the PS3.

The 2000 and the 3000 can fit the larger battery raising play time from around 3hr to around 8-9 hrs. Look on a Japanese import site like play asia and you can buy the sony OEM kits which give you a larger battery cover door (with matching colours) and the larger battery.

Yep I got one of those larger batteries for my 3000 a few months ago. I didn't mind the battery life before but it's pretty awesome now. Plus the case I have fits the larger battery being in there so that's pretty nice too.
