Ape Escape: On The Loose? Yep. Was launch or close to it, if memory serves, though. Not that it's bad or anything, but it's gonna be a little...Unrefined, compared to more recent stuff.

Just put Burnout Legends on my Vita, starting to look a little rough around the edges now, but still a fantastic game. Only makes me want a new portable Burnout even more now!
Tactics ogre. I feel it is the much better game. Also more content. Also also being a good guy is not always the best choice. Which is awesome.
It's not good/evil. It's lawful/chaotic.
I didn't say good/evil, I said being a good guy.
Just because I help an old lady across the street doesn't put me on the good/evil spectrum, it just means I'm being a decent chap.
I don't think that's a given.
What if you were just leading her across the street to a secret demon altar where you plan on sacrificing her to the dark god king from the netherverse who you worship and act as his earthly ambassador?
There are lots of reasons to walk old ladies across the street and not all of them are necessarily noble or decent. That's all I'm saying.
I would definitely go with Tactics Ogre over FFT. It's less grinding-focused, has a ton of content, a very replayble story, and is pretty challenging. Also, chances are you may not have played TO when it came out years ago. FFT is tempting for the price, but TO is the better of the two.
I already bought Tactics Ogre a few hours ago. ;P
It's pretty good! The class system makes sense and doesn't seem to punish you too bad for letting a party member die, so that's something.
How do these 'buy PSN games and play them on your Vita' things I'm hearing work out?
Pretty much how you'd expect. You can use the on-system interface to buy stuff and download it over wifi, or you can buy stuff on the PS3 and transfer it over USB after you've downloaded it, or you can do the same on a PC.
What about playing PS3 games on your Vita?
There's cross-platform save and in some cases DLC compatibility for some games (the big one they're pushing in ads is The Show), and cross-platform multiplayer in some as well (Wipeout). Some games may eventually be released in PS3/PSV combos--not sure if that's beyond the point of speculation yet, it's just a thing I've seen bandied about.
Thanks, so the PSN stuff, is that PSV-specific, or do PS3 games work?
What I'm getting at, if there was a Microsoft handheld which played XBLA games, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. As a massive 360 fan, I have a decent library of those titles already. If this can play existing PS3-owning folks PSN games, that is pretty amazing. This is the most impressive piece of hardware from Sony since the original Playstation, IMHO.
Yeah, this really isn't possible. PSN and XBLA games may seem like they're small scale but they are still PS3/360 games and require the actual hardware. So unless Sony/Microsoft managed to scale down the PS3/360 hardware to fit into a handheld or they designed a handheld powerful enough to emulate both systems, that's not going to happen. The second one is inevitable anyway but it won't be for a while and by then, we'll be so far from this generation that it won't really matter.
Sony is trying to do some interesting stuff though. Four of their games will give you both the PS3 and Vita versions when you buy them (Motorstorm RC, Warrior's Lair, Hustle Kings and Top Darts). And two others do some interesting stuff with DLC. Specifically, you'll get free Wipeout 2048 DLC if you own Wipeout HD/Fury and any UMvC3 DLC is cross compatible. I doubt it'll be the last time we see things like this too.
I would kill for a Vita copy of Shank 2.
Also, here's my Vita lock screen.

The battery on the Vita is something of a concern. Feels like it just charged it an hour ago and it already needs to be charged again..
Really? I've been pleasantly surprised by the battery. Not only does it last longer than the 3DS (which I already didn't mind) but it seems to charge REALLY fast.
the left thumbstick is in the worst position for playing fighting games. i want to use the dpad but damnit that little nub is in the way! it's so tough!
This may sound strange, but this was actually something I was worried about on the PSV. There are occasionally times I'd rather use the d-pad than a stick, and placement is key. I mean, I don't see this as a deal breaker, but is it a big deal for some games, or just a minor inconvenience? I'm not in the money enough to jump onto the early adopter PSV bandwagon, sadly, but I would like one sometime sooner rather than later.
The fact I still have about five PSP games I've yet to play doesn't help either...
Its position feels perfectly comfortable to me, but I'll admit I haven't done fighting games yet. Will be dropping one of those in over the next few days, I suspect.
Man, I think I'm going to pick this up tonight. Been tempted by it, and with me finalizing my plans for Pax this week I feel like I'll need a portable.

This isn't true at all.
At least in terms of CPU / GPU / RAM you could easily get the specs of a 360 into a handheld these days. The hardware spec is from over 9 years ago now.
Honestly the hardest part would be getting the controls right. Sony sure as hell can't manage it so it can't be all that simple an engineering problem.
It was totally true. Yes, you may be able to somehow squeeze the 360's innards into handheld form but realistically, it'd be useless. Battery life, overheating and manufacturing costs would be FAR bigger problems than the controls of all things (which are great with the Vita Mr Troll).

It isn't like the specs of the Vita aren't comparable to the 360, honestly. The ARM CPU is an impressive beast, as is the GPU under the hood. PowerVR and ARM based stuff have a pretty incredible amount of optimization and such available as well so further down the line we could hopefully see really big strides in performance.
Finally getting to play Tactics Ogre was totally worth the price of my Vita. I also was weak and got Dissidia 2 (or 012 whatever) and will probably get Patapon 3 because...well, freakin' PATAPON.
TO feels like it is a sequel to FFT even though I'm pretty sure it came out first. Of course, this version is a remake I believe so maybe it didn't always feel this good. But it's like they took all of the good parts of FFT and made them more awesome, and got rid of the few crappy things. Good times.
Any other good RPGs to recommend for Vita that were on PSP? I have a lot of the PSOne and PS2 stuff but of course that doesn't work yet.
Are you guys talking about the PSP version of Tactics Ogre?
Also has anyone gotten About A Blob for the Vita? I enjoyed the PS3 version, but I'm skeptical about the Vita version since they've added a few new mechanics to "take advantage" of the touch and tilt of the Vita.
Important Notes:
Keep your memory card in your Vita at all times. Do not format it.
For this to work you're going to already need your other-region psn accounts. (If you create them on the vita you'll have to reset it again for them to work.)
1. Set to factory defaults. Deactivate, don't format memory card, go through setup again.
2. Do setup as normal, but enter your other-region SEN account in the setup. This loophole does not work if you set up your account later.
3. Download what you want in the store (I can't personally confirm purchased content myself with this method, but totally works with apps/demos for sure).
4. DO NOT OPEN THE APP ONCE IT DOWNLOADS.
5. Repeat Step 1
6. Set up your normal region account as normal. Reactivate your account.
7. Enjoy
Items don't attach to your account until you first open them. If you make a mistake of opening them in your other-region account just delete the app/game and redownload it fresh.
I grabbed the English Gravity Rush demo, the Japanese Ragnarok Odyssey demo, and the NicoNico app.
Update (thanks to 4chan):
You CAN have multi-region purchanced games on the same memory card, but to play them you have to use the method to switch accounts (unlike apps/demos that attach to the account you first open them on). And you CAN pull out the memory card during the intro video to skip it and reinsert it to no adverse affects (just don't pull it out before then).

Sure but there's a difference in design. The Vita (and its components) were designed for use in a handheld, so are as efficient as possible. The 360? Not so much. Just look at the other two consoles turned handhelds (the Game Gear and Nomad). Emulation's the only real way you could pull it off but again, by the time that's possible (at a decent price), the 360 will be long dead (and the marketplace probably shut down).
Lucascraft, I've heard nothing but positive impressions of About a Blob. Moreso than the original actually.
So, my wife just started playing Touch my Katamari and her first comment is "This is messed up."
In other news, Tactics Ogre is really good so far. Totally had to use the Chariot system vs the Necromancer though, because I thought "oh yeah, let's bring a second archer!" when, a second priest probably would have been smarter vs a horde of undead. Luckily, blitzing solves everything.

Now that the Vita is out I just gotta know something relating to the web browser.
So Sony advertised that the Vita can play flash video, but when I tried watching a flash-based video (or any videos, even YouTube stuff), it says I need to install the latest version of Flash video. Whenever I click the link directing me to the installation however, it tells me I already have the latest version installed (???)
So basically it has Flash installed in the browser, but you can't watch flash (or any) videos yet, which seems like a monumentally stupid thing to screw up.
Am I doing something wrong, or did Sony seriously advertise one thing and not deliver at all?

Well, I was more just meaning running most PSN games or XBLA games on the PSV would be possible. I mean most XBLA games just use XNA, which is just a weirdly modified C and doesn't usually stress the system in any particular fashion from what I've noticed. Nor do they take a very beastly PC to run emulated/natively.
PSN games are probably fairly similar in being simple to run if the changes were made (Course there are also minis which ran on both PSP and PS3.)
Not to say it'd realistically happen, but its there.
More realistic, I expect to see android/iOS ports. Since the PSV is running the same hardware as a large number of android phones and the iphone. That'd be pretty rad.
Just picked up the vita last night from target. The free memory card was nice, saved a few bucks there. Here's my psn info:

Some of the utter crap being posted in reviews of Ninja Gaiden sigma plus is just ridiculous. My personal view is that game journalists are so stuck in their own little bubble they completely lose all perspective and forget that, hey, this may be a port of an old game but not everyone in a videogame diehard and may *gasp*, be playing the game for the first time!
Is it a port of an bad game? Fuck no. Its a port of a 2007 port of what some argue to be the greatest action game ever made, a game that easily stands alongside and in some cases bests current gen actioners in every area that counts (inlcuding its own sequel). This version of the game has 100% feature parity with the ps3 version.
Is it a good port? Undoubtedly yes. It controls perfectly, exactly as well as the ps3 and xbox versions. gyro aiming works brilliantly, the rear touch stuff for ninpo is forgettable but works well enough at least. Graphically its stunning for a portable with a great framerate and stands alongside the other launch heavy hitters as a fantastic ambassador for what the vita is capable of.
The only issue is the price, which I will admit takes some of the sheen off the package, though I would argue it compares pretty favourably with a game like uncharted (theres alot of content).
Jesus christ game journalism. Is it that hard to recommend the game unreservedly to people who like action games but never played the original while acknowleding the downsides (ie the price) without abusing hyperbole?
Buy Ninja Gaiden if you own a vita but havent played it before. Its spectacular.
This is what i get for caring about gamercards...

I went back to my 3DS last night to finally try out Pushmo. Man, the 3DS screen(s) do not hold up well after getting used to the Vita. It took a while to get over the cramped, comparatively low res screens (I miss my DSi XL). I also checked out the eShop, only to realize that (barring the NES/Gameboy ports) there's still way less worth buying on there than there is (already!) on the PSN.
I hate to rag on the 3DS, because I really do like it a lot, but it's just great how well stocked this launch is, not to mention how fantastic the Vita hardware is.
On another note, which screen protector is the general favorite?

I got Killzone Liberation as one of my free PSN Outage games. Why am I not seeing it on the PSP list for download? I can't remember what my other free psp game was. Is there an easy way to find out?

Check your transaction history on your PS3. I don't think Killzone has been "updated" for Vita, so it doesn't show up on the Vita's store even though you can transfer it over.

See, in a portable gaming device, I want good tactile controls and a huge fucking screen, which the Vita nails. In my phone, I want sleek, thin, and unobtrusive without stupid fucking analog sticks poking my face while I use it. Which is why I have an iPhone.
My iPhone does a decent job at playing some games in a pinch, and my Vita does a decent job doing web-stuff like Twitter and Facebook in a pinch. I see no reason why the functions and usefulness of both devices should be compromised in the name of convergence.
Why is this a thing people want to happen?

I will say, the one thing in that review I agree with is that it would be cool to see the Vita become more of an app/game platform like iOS and Android where Sony can release better/smaller/larger hardware in the future that might be capable of running newer "2nd gen" Vita games in addition to 1st gen games.

My iPhone does a decent job at playing some games in a pinch, and my Vita does a decent job doing web-stuff like Twitter and Facebook in a pinch. I see no reason why the functions and usefulness of both devices should be compromised in the name of convergence.
