So yesterday I sat with MY GIRLFRIEND (who is also forums poster Cos) as she got her first tattoo
In progress
Immediately after completion (sorry about the glare, I'm a shitty photographer)
It's in memory of her brother who died in infancy; she can tell you the whole story when she comes in here later
I myself sport this piece
I've had it for about 3 years now but those were both taken the day of so it looks pretty raw there
So I know some of you have some super rad tattoos (WaM and Mysst come to mind immediately but I know there are way more) and I want to see your photos of them and hear your stories
Also I'm thinking vaguely about getting another one and I want to bullshit some ideas
Got this last July while I was living in Japan. It's not a very good pic, tiger looks crosseyed and the color is kinda bleached. Looks way better in person.
I wanted to get a tattoo for years but never settled on a design. Then one day I came into class and saw a sumi-e style painting a student had done of a tiger coming down a mountain and really dug it. It was also the year of the tiger, so it seemed pretty appropriate
I had to wait till I was done with my teaching position, since visible tattoos on a government worker are literally grounds for firing and my area in Japan was way too fucking hot to go around wearing long sleeves
Extremely happy with it and plan on turning it into a half sleeve once I get some money saved up!

I had an idea for a tattoo design that I kinda liked
black outline of a circle, four black half circles on the north, east, south, and west of the circle, and a tiny black center

My dad kinda steered my family in the directions of tattoos. This was his first one he got when he turned 40, which I've posted before:
A tree with our family crest etched in, and the initials of my family members in the knots.
Then he got this, which my sister and mom got, with their own personal touch, in different places. I'll get mine this coming July 9th, and I'm figuring out what I wanna do with it.
I'm thinking my family motto: "Turris Fortis Mihi Deus" which just means God is my strong tower.
My dad also has our portraits on his arm, and a gauntlet of sorts but I don't have pictures of those.
All of their tattoos, and my tattoo, are by the same guy, Mark Mahoney, who became a really close family friend.
It's weird how much tattoos came to mean to us in the last 5 years.

Now if only I wasn't poor, unemployed, and clueless as to what tattoo I would enjoy for longer than 2 days before regretting it!
I have heard a good rule of thumb is to pick a design, wait 5 years, and if you still are happy with it after that amount of time go ahead and do it
Also maybe you'll have some money by then
5 years is kind of a crazy amount of time to wait
If you feel strongly that you want any kind of tattoo in the first place, you don't really have to wait that long once you find an idea that you like
It was only 2 months between idea and tattoo for me, and that was only because I had to wait for classes to end. For me, my tattoo is very much about marking a certain moment in my life, which would have been lost if I'd waited 5 years, or even 1

which makes it even weirder that I've contemplated tongue forking
I dunno where I'm going with this
but i really want another one

pffft fuck that
Maybe tied with WaM's
lostwords how old were you when you got that?
i'll probably end up with a words tattoo on my back or arm
full of pimples and little bits with tons of colouring that keep scabbing over.
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
dunno, like 19, then 20 for the right one. kinda silly, but whatevs, no regrets
I mean I didn't do that
But I'm just saying I've heard that advice
Signifying?
I mean
you guys both have rad tattoos
also the first thing I said
literally no meaning to it
I mean, I could always bullshit and say something silly like it's a compass, or it represents the four elements and aether
really, I just think it's a cool design

maybe tattoos aren't for you.
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
And that is all you need
Also, get this
like my aunt gave me the whole 'well how is gonna look 50 years from now?'
and i'm just like 'who gives a shit? i like it now, and it'll make for a great story no matter what'
