What game mode do I need to be playing to earn the "Promethium Summer" achievement? I'm a total DoW2 newb so I have no idea which heroes have access to the flamer or really what I even need to be doing here.
Last Stand works. And the Lord General's Flamer and the Mekboy's Burner both work.
Also: After a bit more testing, I still believe the Lord General's Bear skin is useless. His accessory slots are just too useful to waste on it, and all it does is essentially put his turrets to where they should be at standard.
On the other hand, my Sorcerer gave the Great Unclean One a face full of Tzeentch and nearly one-shotted him (and I say nearly, because he had taken some prior damage). So yeah, the DLC staff is definitely pretty awesome.

Has anyone got the Blood Ravens Veteran's Helmet for Retribution (via the Steam summer sale tickets thing)? If so, where is it, even? I checked in single player, not there. Checked Last Stand, not there (unless it's unlocked later on)
It better not be the helmet that came with the game if you preordered it.

Its a skin, more for last stand and multiplayer. When selecting what armor colour you want, choose Blood Ravens, Veterans of Something.
Your force commander will be all pimped out.
You can see it in the army painter.

Additionally, people can feel free to toss me an invite if they need some help with Last Stand. Will all these new games from the Summer Sale, I might be distracted though.
Also decided to play a normal 1v1 game for the first time in ages. I watched through the GR Open Season tourney last few days. So I am still in placement since I have played like 5 3v3 games 4 1v1 games or something. I don't know. But I am pretty bad so I wasn't expecting a lot, maybe getting lucky and getting someone who grabbed it during the sale.
Well I did. I in fact got my flawless victory as the Kommando Nob. Killed his Apothecary and scouts in the first fight and it continued from there. By the end of the of the game I had killed 1 devastor, 2 scout squads, 2 tac squads, 1 asm squad and his apothecary 4 times. I felt really bad actually. He just didn't understand retreating or keeping squads alive. My Kommando Nob was level 5 before I could go tier 3. Oh well, win for me I guess. Lost a total of 3 orks all game. 2 shootas and a slugga boy.
If you're looking for shoutcasts, hit up HarlequinCasts on youtube.
Only problem is that IIRC he's still currently in China, so there hasn't been anything new for about a month now. But he's got plenty of previous casts to look over if you're interested. Aside from shoutcasting replays and the occasional league, he also does stuff like player profiles where he interviews the high ranked players, which is cool to hear their tactics. And he's also interviewed some of the Relic devs come patch time.
He also does infrequent "Newbie Tuesdays" ( a la Day[9] ), occasionally with a co-caster from project L2P, so you might find those casts useful.
On a side note, I just found out that Tales of Heroes is casting again (also on youtube). Awesome.
To anyone looking to buy this game but missed the Steam sale Amazon is selling their digital download version for 14.99 but you should be able to just register it with Steam anyways.

I got it playing through the first level in campaign as IG.
If anyone needs another player for last stand / camp you can invite me, same name as here
Just got into Last Stand on Friday and its been a lot of fun!
Finally got it downloaded, I'll need to get the General up to 20 eventually and unlock the achievement weapons. Didn't get the DLC yet, since I might not get through my backlog to retribution until Christmas when the DLC might be on sale anyway.
Played some custom games today since I just had the craving to play. First was a Team FFA. My ally was special but my infantry blob and some really nice battles where my ever living Commissar basically won us the game. He is a cool hero who I might start playing more. Really makes a guard infantry army super dangerous in combat. And I didn't even use catachans. In fact my anti-tank was one squad of melta storm troopers and the commissar lord himself. Destroyed 2 dreadnoughts, a leman russ and a deff dread with them. Still shocked we won, but I am obsessive about claiming points on a map now after watching so many harlequin videos.
Then I played a couple 3v3 customs in a row. First game I was the Warlock. I am still the most awful eldar player ever. I have no idea how to dance with them and they so squishy. My ork ally and I ended up holding the opponents natural victory point while our other ally held ours. I accidentally built wraith guard when I meant to build a wraithlord to smash the space marine who never built a single anti-tank the whole game. My mvp though was one shuriken cannon that suppressed everything so my ally's orks could clean them up.
Last game I got the Ork Mekboy. Orks are kind of my main race now. But I tend to play warboss or k-nob since I find their abilities more game turning. We started off poorly getting beaten pretty badly for a while. I then decided to flank and take a victory point no one was at. I also got a gen bash in. After that things started turning. A huge battle in the middle of the map, I flanked the eldar and my trukk plus stormboyz with a nob just smashed faces. Ended up winning 258 points to 0. MVPs were the stormboyz and the lootas. I bought the lootas early by accident but almost always got them set up. Their suppression won me a lot of fights. Then when my opponent brought on a wraith lord, my lootas went beamy deff gun and killed it in like 3 shots thanks to the mekboyz global buff. Was pretty cool to watch. Also my stormboyz killed 3 squads of wraith guard.
Was a lot of fun to play tonight since its been a while. I blame Harlequin's cast for it.

Jesus, I stumbled upon the mother of all Sorcerer builds in Last Stand. Doomblast sword, fearless armor, greater sorc, master sorc, life-draining accessory, and the +125 health item. You drain enough mana to just doombolt over and over again. Seriously, you drain enough in the hits while you wait for something to get back up to do it again.
Stuff that is immune to knockback can be dangerous, but don't let that stop you from blasting. With master sorc, doing so buffs your armor, not to mention the damage applies even to things that can't be knocked over. And you can doomblast while doing anything else - getting up from the ground, taking a point, rezzing, etc.
The thing that will kill you is cowardice. If you run from ranged attackers, you're not draining health, and they'll whittle you down. You have to be in melee combat to maintain your life, and knowing what few things you CAN'T take on and should run from is difficult.
So do I need to install DoW 2, Chaos Rising or both to import my last stand stats into Retribution? Because I'll be damned if I'm leveling this shit up from scratch all over again.

DoW 2 and Chaos Rising are both compatible and both run on the GFWL, which is all you really need. So both either or will work fine.
Play a game of Last Stand and a Ranked 1v1 battle of some sort, and that should upload your stats to the Steam Cloud, then when you get into Retribution you can try to download the stats onto your Retribution / Steam account.
If they fixed the fucking plasma cannons that have been broken since ship.
Ridiculous that he just stops firing when the one member of the squad of 20 guys he was shooting at died. Just fire at the ground where he was, I have to wait as if he had fired anyway!
Just finished the Eldar campaign. Nice to see Relic continue the tradition of being objectively terrible at writing for Eldar. Even in their own campaign they're incompetant fucktards.

So what's the current state of the Imperial Guard in multiplayer? I lost interest in the game after seeing fragile guardsmen squads fall to guardian spam and OP'd Chaos/SM armies.
The inquisitor was one of the most op heroes for a while after they messed with the crossbow bolt and the hammer of the witches. I still do well with guard when I play them in ffa. I love the commissar. In general guard armies use 0 power in tier 1 running 2 guard squads, 2 sentinels and getting up to tier 2 asap. Ogryns are still tough. Manticore still wipes squads. The banewolf cost more now but still really powerful. The chimera is still great.
Guardsman still blow over at a slight breeze if you live them in the open unsupported but with the right back up they are a decent army.

You say that like GW themselves don't make them out to be incompetant fucktards.
The new Eldar DLC skin looks okay, I think the reason I'm most tempted to pay for it is the helmets on the Farseer and Warp Spider Exarch (I know they have mods for this, but with the DLC my opponent will see the same thing I am.)
Guard do quite well for themselves in MP, and the 2x guardsmen 2x sentinel build is widely regarded as the strongest opening in the game since it invalidates all melee, whittles away ranged while taking very few (meaningful) casualties, and costs 0 power allowing you to skyrocket into T2 ahead of anyone else. Their T2 is also really solid, with ogryns and chimeras being the highlights (also, apparently they fixed melta stormtroopers this patch, so they might be really good too). I'd avoid getting a manticore in 1v1 though, unless you KNOW your opponent has nothing that can walk into the base and just kill it. T3 is also decent, with Leman Russes being pretty useful (just don't get the upgrades -- they actually make the tank weaker), and the baneblade which does almost 0 damage but whose main cannon might as well say "Delete Target Unit".
The only matchup they struggle with is Chaos, and all the rest is either an even battle or in their advantage depending on the stage of the game.
I am always up for last stand if I am not busy. I gotten to round 20 on both maps multiple times with pubs but never beat them. My current Chaos sorc set up works great on Anvil of Khorne. Warp, Damage reflect spell, deathless, super pet and leaving fire when I teleport away. Mostly because the warp prism pet is just amazing. I end with 400+ kills almost every game this way.
I've mentioned it before, but feel free to toss me an invite. I might be busy playing one of the many games I picked up in the Steam Sale, but I usually don't mind hopping on for some Last Stand. Here is my steam ID...

Ulthwe skin for the Eldar.
Looks pretty cool but I don't play Eldar. I am kind of stuck on the knob at the moment. He is just so much fun.

I think it is pretty clear that the eldar as a species are pretty stupid. They managed to kill off their race by partying too hard.
Also the imperium isn't exactly a bastion of intellect is it.

Also I may insist on going melee Farseer because I swear this time it will work (it won't, she's awful).
